It's even way more powerful with 3D mouse but somehow canvas tool it's underrated.

Your art is excellent but I worry that you are painting in the light and shadows rather than using the light in the scene to create these. I would paint your cracks onto a normalmap and light using the 3ds max lighting system, or vray depending on what you are going to render this with. I can't fault your artistic skills though

Hey mate how are you painting in max? If I already have a texture but I want to paint out seams in the view port how would I go about it?

so firstly you would need to go to tool/view port canvas/ once you load it up you will get the (VPC tool window) which you can see in my vid on the left. if you then select your model and click on the paint brush icon within the tool bar it will give you texture options, click diffuse and set up the size and save path, then select layer within the tool bar, which will pop open the layer window if you then go to file load you can load in you already made texture, once you have done this there is a clone tool within the brush section which you can then use to sample parts of your texture and paint out your seams!! have a look at this blog it should help: consoul.org.uk/view-port-canvas-3ds-max/#more-680
