I've followed this channel for years & this guy must be one of the UK's best decorators! Watch his old videos if you can find them, they're excellent. (The standard of some decorators, especially in the London area, is truly shocking! They turn them out of the colleges, City & Guilds 'qualified', after they haven't even turned up for many of the lessons!)

I always use shellac knotting even before bin or aluminium primer….good idea using the filling blade for stripping…I’ve always used a tomahawk scraper but will def give it a go 👍

Thanks I do use a knotting solution at times. I'd run out so used the B.I.N but it does a good job. I think the Ronseal knot block is the one that fails. Thanks

Such a nice job, a pleasure to watch. I wondered if there was any reason that you use different zinsser products on coving and skirting? Thanks for your time.

Personally i farr prefer to spot treat knots with shelac knotting rather than BIN. The bin primer doesnt always block knots 100% like the straight shellac does.
@jackwardley36268 ай бұрын
shellack knotting doesn't guarantee knots will ever bleed through just reduces the chance

Sorry but, you don't patch a hole like that. Doing it that way uses way to much pudy, which means it will shrink and crack for sure but, even more problematic is it will take several days to dry out and longer if you paint it when it's not dry. Better, faster solution is to screw a square of drywall into the hole, then it only needs a skim coat of plaster and bobs your uncle your moving onto another project without getting called back to fix the stinking cracks
@PaintingandDecorating8 ай бұрын
It won't shrink and it dries with a chemical reaction so it doesn't take days. Polyfilla

I’m just starting out by decorating my mums house and would like to know the best paint brushes brand wise to buy, and rollers for walls, extendable rollers for ceilings and what pile to use on a ceiling that has that horrible sharp bobblyeffect. Also recommendations for best ceiling coving paint recommendations (we need white gloss and white Matt)any suggestions should be great
@PaintingandDecorating2 ай бұрын
Dulux center or Crown centre or your local decorating centre. It's all about the price the more you pay the better the paint. All depends on what Finnish you want, contract Matt, vinyl Matt or a washable Matt. Bathroom and kitchen paint. Water based gloss Leyland. Thanks

Thankyou… what brushes and rollers are best?
@tonyp96018 ай бұрын
Nice. You're showing off your competence well there on laying in that wall paper over the wall plugs and dinging in the screw holes etc as going along along with the sequencing. Makes it look easy (sort of). What went on as the final skirting coats?

As myself painter & decorator I'm not a fan of painting wood I believe it should be natural yes treat it stain it varnish it. Paint for me stops the wood from breathing

Hi mate. I've been watching you channel for a while. I'm a plasterer by trade but do the occasional decorating job. Id like to think that I'm ok at cutting in ceiling lines etc but I have trouble cutting in architrave to wall my question is what brush do you use etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 👍

Watched so many videos and still can't get it right. Did a 2nd coat on my wall today.. Looks like I've deliberately tried to make it stripey. Fucking nightmare. Given up on painting.
@PaintingandDecorating8 ай бұрын
The only way is to keep trying and slightly adjust your ways. Be careful because sometimes it's old paint or the plaster already has marks in it. Rub your hand over the wall. Thanks
@alexthomson74658 ай бұрын
@@PaintingandDecorating thanks for your advice. I followed your videos about lining paper and hardstop filler and the seams are invisible. It's my roller skills (lack of) which shows up now. So frustrating. 😩
@AspireDecorating8 ай бұрын
@@alexthomson7465water your paint down around 5%. It'll give you a bit more time to blend your edges. Sometimes light critical walls and ceilings can cause your paint to "flash" there isn't an awful lot you can do about that apart from keep trying different brands. Remember, you get what you pay for!
@alexthomson74658 ай бұрын
@@AspireDecorating thanks for that info! The wall does have light from a door shining all the way across it so it stands out all the more. I'll try watering it down for my next project. 🍻
