I`d love to be given the time to do a proper high quality finish like this with great attention to detail. Unfortunately most companies Ive worked for want it finished yesterday and they dont allow the time which is actually quite sad. But its great to see a true professional doing such a top class job.

Big fan of your channel I watch you every day. One question. When storing the brush you use for your bin primer do you fill the box of wipes with methalated spirits up to the ferrul of the brush so that all the bristles are submerged. Or is it a water/methalated spirit mix. Or do you just add some in and the vapors keep the bristles soft. Thanks again.
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, sorry for late reply, you only need a small amount in the bottom. Vapours keep everything soft.

Wall looks exactly like a wall ive just stripped in our 1930s property. What prep work would be needed for painting? Im thinking filling, lots of sanding, mist coat and two decent top coats

Thank you for the insight, it’s like going back to school! One question- if you weren’t going to paper over it, would you still recommend a diluted pva for the mist coat? I’ve got a Smaller previously plastered room I’m scraping back due to a failed mist coat And I’m not sure whether I should use diluted pva, diluted emulsion or BIN primer to seal. Any advice? I’ve watched your video on PVA, but I’m not sure the best course because there are still some patches where the paint remaina. Thank you again, you and your brother are my guides in all things renovation on this old house!
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, and yes diluted PVA will be best.

Use a foam gun. You can place mastic nozzle on the end for tight gaps with great control vs cans that blast out and check out beeline sealer. It's pva emulsion that can be painted over. I'm doing the same though and works great for preparation. Good video though. ;)

Hello Respect to all you do /the way you do! Your advice for new plastered walls before I paint them white what I can use for primer/base coat and which brand for the white paint you can recommend me? Cheers

@@PaintingandDecorating I've seen in your video with the staircase you use PVA, what is the reason? Mist coat I thought can be done wit diluted paint for that reason? Should I use PVA every time before mist coat with diluted white mat? Thanks

Thanks for your detailed and informative videos. I am wishing to wallpaper line then paint over a vinyl painted wall-the paint was partly flaking and I've scratched away flaking areas and patched with skimming plaster. I've abraded the wall with coarse sandpaper. Should I seal the wall with diluted PVA prior to papering or any alternative recommendation apart from the huge job of removing paint from the walls entirely. Many thanks!
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, you should be fine as long as no thick edges they should all be feathered. Diluted PVA is fine.

Great video as always mate. I’m learning loads! One question, I dunno if you can do a video on it or not. My dads had a family mate plaster a wall in his living room who hasn’t really left a smooth, even job. My dads painted it white but you can see where the uneven finish catches the light in the centre of the wall. It’s noticeable but not a total nightmare. Would you recommend sanding it down to smooth it out and then repaint? Surely it wouldn’t need a whole new plaster job from scratch right? Any help please would be brilliant! Ta
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, you may get away with filling and sanding smooth. and if that does not work lining paper will even the texture out.
@post2memrg4 жыл бұрын
hi just curious but do you have a view on cordless sanders? and using them to do the work instead?, especially anyone who has limited mobility , thanks love your video's.

Perfect timing - I’ve just removed wallpaper in bedroom and am faced with similar walls to this. I need to do a lot of sanding. Just wondering if you can use BIN primer to seal the walls as well? I have a paint sprayer and was planning on using that. I want to paint the walls and would rather not have to line them with paper. Thanks in advance!
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
best not to use B.I.N. to seal the walls, lining walls gives them an even texture.

We have a 60's house and had to remove all the wallpaper, old paint. The plaster left behind was not great, I used WallDoctor, cannot recommend it more, fab stuff to cover crap plaster.

Hi I've just removed thick wall paper that has been up for several years. Surprisingly now I've sanded the walls they are in good condition and don't need skimming. I'm down to the original grey coloured plaster. Would it be ok if I painted straight on to the walls now paint called Dulux primer and Undercoat? It says it's for walls. I would then paint my colour emulsion on top of that . Thanks in advance
@PaintingandDecorating2 жыл бұрын
Primer undercoat is for woodwork... your emulsion may say on the instructions how it should be thinned for plaster. Make sure you remove all the old paste before painting. Thanks

I have a tub of no nonsense pva and it has a warning to not use it as a primer for painting. Would a mist coat be better for sealing a wall?
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
If it's waterproof PVA it's no good. But normal PVA diluted is fine just make sure it's well diluted so it soaks right in. Thanks

What emulsion do you recommend to seal plaster,that's to be painted with soft sheen?
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
You can buy paint that is for new plaster, or thin down contract matt. Do not use silk or vinyl matt. Or you can do as in this video seal with diluted PVA then two coats of your colour.
