I'm so glad you highlighted the fact that this type of work is very, very labor intensive (ie: hours and hours), therefore expensive to do. Also glad you didn't uncover any hidden previous major repairs you would have had to address and increase the bill. Awesome work!

Thanks for the video Brian. I do everything all by myself and I often will tell my wife that when you watch a car show where they have a team of guys working on one car that it is very misleading when they crank out a job in a couple days vs my couple weeks or more. This puts it all in perspective and assures me that I'm on track...no mater how painful it may be.

Stuff the Gen x - we others do have patience and like the length of your videos. The music your dropped in worked well with the video & i find watching you at work is very therapeutic and your teaching skills are top notch and this video was epic. In Australia that job would be a +$20k paint job in a paint shop due to high wages, materials & overhead running costs of a shop these days & high cost of decent quality auto paint product in current market. I have to do a full repaint job on my Euro 1989 Mercedes 560SEL (midnight blue) and this time i am painting out all the chrome/alloy trim as per how AMG did it back in the day as mine is AMG spec with full bodykit & wheels & interior. The existing paint is original and minor blemishes (bird poop etc) but i want a show car finish that i will be undertaking at home myself & painting it myself. Your videos are inspirational & top notch and very appreciated from a long term subscriber

Amazing work Brian, your the reason why i got into spraying, its so fun and rewarding. I have a few questions because ive been a follower for a while and noticed the early steps were slightly different. Why no sealer on the body? Also is it because its a restoration you want that glassy shine rather than oem orange peel??
@novinnovations4026
@novinnovations4026 6 ай бұрын
If you have real good paint/panels to start with, and you aren't doing a color change, you can avoid using a sealer coat. The theory is, the less coats you need to spray on, the glossier/flatter the finish will be before cut/buff. And yes for this restoration and many others they want a glossier and flatter finish. For production/slam jobs or non-completes you typically want to aim for an OEM orange peel to match the rest of the car.

Hey Brian! I couldn't tell if I was seeing things right in this video when you were spraying the separate panels (i.e. doors and hood) It look almost as IF MAYBE the gun was missing a few times? I mean as in maybe fluid was leaning too far forward and not getting into the bowl all the way. We use the PPS system where I work. And a vet taught me with the PPS system to put the gun upside down and pull the trigger until you get material leaving the gun consistently and no sputter. This creates a vacuum and you can shoot with the gun upside down (as we do sometimes) and have no spray failure. (wasn't sure if this was something you were already aware of with the PPS system that you can do) Just thought I saw something and thought i would try to share something to help if I could. Thanks for creating amazing content, Brian L.

I think shops like yours can usually make paint look better than factory, but I was just wondering if it's more durable... especially given that you can pick and choose the type of paint you use and the number of coats. Does the modern body filler hold up well with cars driven every day?
@ToNYxModzZ
@ToNYxModzZ 4 ай бұрын
It’s definitely more durable. Out the factory it probably only has about 2.0 mils of paint, he probably put down at least 4 mils.. and the clear coat he used is much higher quality. Rock chips for example definitely won’t chip down to bare metal on this paint job that’s for sure

Hi, sorry if this is a noob question but why only 2 coats of clear? I would have thought a couple more coats would have given a bit more depth and to leave lots of room for flatting and many rounds of polishing it might get over the years it might attend shows. With this much effort into the prep and base is there a negative to more clear coats?
