interesting how u said u would love to see the northern lights in person. i actually use the money from the paintings i do to put towards a trip to scotland which is a huge part of my heritage. not as good as i used to be but getting back into it and even trying to sell my better ones

Ich male mit acryl aber hab mir das Bob Ross packet bestellt und das liegt seit 2 Jahren im Schrank mit den Öl Farben aber ich trau mich nicht vor allem das waschen der Pinsel macht mir angst. Aber wenn ich deine bilder sehe hab ich voll bock endlich die Öl Farben raus zu nehmen und anfangen damit zu malen. Du bist definitiv the next Bob Ross vom malen her❤

I'm just discovering your art and am inspired to work with a new medium. The canvases I've previously purchased are primed already and are white. My question is, do you apply black gesso to yours? Or paint? How do you start off with that color canvas prior to applying your clear oil?

I either buy them already black, or cover them with Liquitex Black Gesso and let it dry completely before adding the clear. Look for the videos under the Videos tab on my channel for the ones that say "Literally EVERY SINGLE STEP". Those are going to help you the most

You can use anything. I just only know how to teach oils.

Hello! I wanted to ask if this would also work with Acrylic paint? I definetly want to learn oil painting but i dont have good ventillation in my dorm so im. Sticking with acrylic for now.

The Northern Light technique shown here is for oil paints only. Trust me; I attempted to do it with acrylic and it doesn't work. There are acrylic tutorials out there though for Northern Lights. I switched to oils recently myself so I could do this.

Can i do the base with black acrylic instead of gesso?

Gesso is more watery so it covers easier without brush strokes but yes you can black it out in acrylic black if that's all you have

Is your canvas a black canvas, or did you paint it black first?

Hey Josh!! I have that exact easel. However...the canvas won't sit flush at the bottom like that. And if I was to flip it around like you did it would have pushed right to the back and ruined it. What am I doing wrong? 🤔🧐

I pinch mine down on the lip in the front with pressure and tighten the top. That way the lip doesn't get in the way.

Hey I'm doing a mural with a mountain range scene in the background. I'm predominantly a portrait artist so you can imagine how helpful this video was! It's a green mountain at sunrise so the palette is gonna be different but very helpful nonetheless. My question is though I can't use the Bob Ross clear coat cause it's a mural, do think a light varnish coat might work?
