I enjoyed and was informed on a freezing morning at the coast. I have been fishing soft plastics for years in a helter-skelter fashion. I so enjoy putting an order to chaos. Ha

Dang Justin there’s a science to how to set up lures I’ve been setting mine up wrong the whole time. Thank you for taking the time to explain it. Great video.

Thanks Will. As long as your getting good hook sets, then it's not wrong but if you set and the rod bends for a few seconds and then lose the fish immediately, it could be the way it's rigged. Tight lines buddy!

Been keeping up with the channel for a couple months now. Just wanted to say thank you for posting up this oldie but a goodie! Makes a lot of sense and explained perfectly. Tossing in your own experience helps a ton! Been fishing Port Mansfield my whole life and just starting to get serious with lures. Hope to book a trip with you one day!

As an old Florida man that grew up fishin' I have to say that this is a well done video. This information is really good for new anglers. Half way in I doubt I'll learn much but if you haven't fished all your life you should pay attention because this is a pretty good explanation. You definitely need to pay attention to the weight of the head on a jig, but also the length of the hook and the hook gap is very important.

Thank you for the tips Justin. I am one of those who has purchased a vast array of baits and hooks without knowing how to best use them.

Justin, Nice jig & hook discussion! I have a tip that could help- give it a try! On those jigheads that have the 2 vertical 'teeth' , when you thread it on, just before you shove it over the teeth, turn your plastic 90*, shove it on then turn it back to normal position. the gouges in the plastic are on the sides and the teeth are locked behind solid plastic- so the lure will have to pull off through the fresh untorn plastic. They stay on much better & longer. It is very quick, just a twist of lure, shove on & twist back. I hope this helps in the knowledge arsenal! Tight lines my friend!

Justin do you tie straight to your line or you always use a liter line tied on ?

I don't use leader line for soft plastics. Straight to braid. Nothing wrong with using leader line though if you like

Far less snags with a smaller lure in shallow water, even up here where I am it is the same game.
