I play only thin and big cymbuls and so you get thet sound!!! The 2002 if thay thin and big (meen realy thin, vintage thin not modern there is a big different) thay sound similar to the giant beat, but not the same, for me also the giant beat have the tone i love, and the deep pitch with there glasy tone make thay special and can also used in jazz!!! Btw have a 1967 24" giant beat! ...superp! And the stambul and stambul 65 60s (pre serial nr.) b8 cymbuls and all sound beatyfull big and thin! The smalest are 20" and heaviesd are 1900g by 20" 😎 ...thay sound superp and are can be good mixed with the 3 itself (60s giant beat, stambul (b8) and stambul 65 (b8) )!!! ...but must say love also my 50s avedis and my old k's from 50s and 60s (but sadly thay are expensive, but not so rare as so many say!, but realy expensive) ...i get also one of my Favorit set from 60s ufip thin cymbuls 16" hat and 2x 20" crashride and 1x 18" crashride + a 60s avedis 20" crashride and a 70s 18" all "new old stock", never played and never sold 😍

Paiste has done that for decades. I remember an article circa 1986 where Robert Paiste said that not only do they try to make cymbals within their respective lines work together, they also try to make cymbals across different lines work together, so if you had, say, some 602s, some 2002s, Giant Beats and Big Beats all in one setup, they would all work together.

There is a whole lot to love in this video presentation. I am starting to come to the conclusion that Paiste offers the most diverse range of appealing, high-end lines of cymbals among all cymbal makers. The Signatures, 2002, Big Beat, Giant Beat, and 602 all sound so wonderful in different ways, and that doesn't even cover them all.

I love the 2002 series! They impress me WAY more than anything Zildjian could come up with. There are harmonics in the 2002 series that I just can't find elsewhere, save for some of the Meinl cymbals out of Germany. Both Paiste and Meinl have nailed "glassy" harmonics using whatever those alloys are that they use. Paiste is more musical, more "ringy," much more "present" and pleasant to my ears. They're consistent, too, unlike Zildjians which can be either beautifully unique or bloody terrible depending on which lot you choose. I once had a 19" Zildjian Crash that I absolutely loved, until someone stole it from our studio! So, to each his own - but I'm a Paiste fanatic, fer sher! The 2002 alloy glows red. That's another reason why I love them! And 602's? Don't get me started. I won't shut up about how great the 602 series is.....different alloy, different sound.

I personally love the sounds I'm hearing from the Big Beats. To my ear they sound like a Paiste Red label 2002 mixed with a Zildjian K - almost. The brightness is there but they are more complex and dark than the regular 2002s. I would think in a studio mix the Black Label Big Beats would leave a nice mid range area for bass and distorted guitars to occupy.

I’ve never been the biggest fan of 2002s. They serve a purpose and have been huge in popular music history. However, those Big Beats are INCREDIBLE cymbals. I just picked up a 24” Big Beat yesterday and played it during our rehearsals and set this morning and I’m enamored with it. Getting a 19” to pair with it, and probably a 21” in the near future. I use 17” Signature alloy prototype crashes for hats and they blend very well with the Big Beats.

I use 2002 thin crashes with a giant beat ride and they sound great together. They all use the same alloy but machined differently, they're like siblings in a way which is why it works. Only thing is the 2002 hats and heavier 2002 cymbals will noticeably cut through louder than the giant beats and darker big beats. Also signatures blend with these cymbals as well

Thank you very much for that comparison demo. I watched, then I closed my eyes and listened then I opened my eyes just long enough to see which pair you were going to do something else and then I closed my eyes again. I'm so happy that I bought Paiste Giant beats in 2001 in Nashville,Tn. Before that in 1998, I bought the same sizes that you are playing today in Paiste 2002's except my ride was a 21". Then in 2001, I bought my Giant Beats. All this time I believed that the best cymbals that I heard from my favorite drummers of the past were all playing with Giant Beats and after today, I'm thrilled that I still have them and won't change them for any other brand cymbals. Some day in the future I will buy a new set of my old Zildians. 14" New Beat Hi-Hats, 22" Medium Ride and an 18" and a 20" Medium Crashes again. Nothing sounds better than the Original Avedus Zildian Cymbals. Screw all of these 50 different types of cymbal names. Simple was and is always the best to me. Thank you for the Excellent demo. It was great and proved to me what I always knew. My ears never lied to me.

Great demo....one of the best really meaningful comparisons I've seen on a while. Waaay back when I started playing I was all about Paiste. All my drum heroes played them. When I stopped playing and transitioned in to studio engineering, my tastes changed. For years I've been into the dark and dry Turkish thing. Hearing these again brings back memories....it's such a familiar sound. For me the Big Beats are my overall faves, buy a narrow margin. The ride is gorgeous!. Crashes and hats are perfectly balanced. Darker but still full. The Giant Beats are REALLY nice cymbals with a classic character. Definitely the lightest/thinnest sounding, but not weak. Love the ride and crashes. Might be my first choice for recording?. 2002s are what they are, with no apologies!.....CRAAAAAAWWWWSSSHH!!!!!. Still great cymbals and fun play, will cut through anything!, but just not my taste anymore. Love the Traditional series since they sound the most like dark Turkish cymbals. I'll always be a fan of the old Sound Formulas, totally unique cymbals.........and 602s of course

I hit the 20" thin in store years back and ended buying the entire series off that one cymbal. I've purchased a few of the 2002 and big beats aswell. 2002's are by far the loudest and the big beats have quite a short decay. I usually pair my 2002 22" crash with my GB 24" and my big beat 21" with the thin GB crash, depending on where, who and what kind of music I am playing. Always paired with 15" GB hats, incredibly versatile

I've had a bunch of 2002's and I can tell you, for crashes you are better off for thinner and bigger. 19" and 20" crash or light crash are the best choices. 18"and smaller are just not loud enough for live situations (clubs with maybe one or two overheads are okay, but with no overheads, they will sound like splashes). Check out Alex Van Halen's setup. all 19" and 20" crashes.

Great comparison video! I used to use 2002 for a year, but found them to be a little brittle to my ears. Went back to Z, then started using 2002 BB and have never switched back. I love Big Beats and I cannot lie. 15, 18, 19, 20, 24.

LOVE my 2002’s. Just to clarify, I use a 14 sound edge hat, 18 and 22 2002, but I mix them with my 10 inch 2002 splash, 17 rude, 16 900 series and the 24 bell ride with a signature China. The brightness really compliments the Bubinga on my Star kit and gives me a lot of tone to play with. Perfect cymbals.

I could have used this video a couple of years ago when I was trying to decide between a set of Giant Beats or Big Beats. I ultimately went with the Giant Beats but it was a tough call. When crashed they have a great dark wash with a glassy top end sustain that is just lovely. Think of the big crashes on Your Time Is Gonna Come. The 24 GB washes out pretty easily with moderate ride sticking. Maybe the Big Beat has more stick articulation? The 2002 definitely does.

love how you truly & comprehensively Demonstrate and evaluate the Instruments, and even give your opinions. (Paiste is just Supreme) they are the Masters of specialty and specific Cymbals along with the other Instruments they make, but the Big Beats seem to be nonspecific/variable Cymbals, like older style that have that shudder & feel where you Work them.

I loved the sound of the Giant Beats! I thought the other two lines were a bit gong-y. Saying that, I thought the 2002 ride sounded the best, so I'd probably go for Giant Beats all round with a 2002 ride.

I have a lot of paiste cymbals. Black label 2002's from 70's : 15"SE hats, 16" crash & 16 medium, 18" crash x 2, 20" crash x2 Red Label 16/18 med crash, 20" crash, 20" ride, 24" ride I just bought a 24" Giant beat ride and it is amazing. I already retired the 24" 2002 because the Giant beat sounds very good as a ride, but is 10x more crashable than the 2002 (about 1.5 lbs lighter) Look like I will be adding some Giant beat crashes now too

I'm a HUGE Zildjian guy. Especially the K line. However... I played my buddies set of 15" 2002 Soundedge and fell in love with the feel. Big hats all the way for this guy now. As far as the sound goes... when I used them to record, they were magical. Honestly the best sounding recorded hats that I've used. Very very pleasant sounding. They just cut very well. I also have to say that I don't like them when I play in a metal/hard rock band. To my ear... they just don't sound right with that style of music at all. I was using them in a straight forward bluesy 70's rock band, and they were awesome with that style.

If ya can only pick 1, 24 2002. You guys have the best review vids! Please find out what's going on with Paiste cymbal cleaner. Has it been discontinued? Great comparison! I hear more stick definition on the 2002s without the loss of bloom / wash and that trademark shimmer. All sound great and I could have just about any of these in my setup...I lean towards the 2002s but could feather in the Giant Beat hats or crashes.
