Also, the exterior bark is the hardest part of the wood. I never understand why people take it out for tent stakes. Just make a chisel cut and keep the bark on the outer side of the tent so it doesn't splinter.

A little physics lesson - you could have 100 lbs of weight waiting to come down and it will not fall any faster than 1 lb of weight.
