The Original plan was just to replace Pakistan's Mirages, F-7s and some old F-16s. obviously not to compete with F-16's latest blocks but it outperformed many F-16 models and other jets in expectations, cost and performance because it is made by a low budget salaried airforce, only airforce in the world who make its own jet unlike other airforces with big budgets who buy from capitalists corporate firms and pay them $millions.
