0:50 As we all probably know by now, the JF gun is actually pointing downwards as it’s supposed to be a ground attack gun. Also, I understand, to be an area of effect weapon, so it spreads like the A-10’s GAU. Though clearly can still be used for air to air, just need more skill, and more AOA, angel of attack, to get rounds on target 🎯.

DCS got the Block 2 version of Jeff so it's not that powerful..... but if block 3 is ever added, with AESA radar & WS13e engine ..... It may compete good with F16 & Mirage, if not F15.

The JF 17 looks like a 1 engine 1st gen Hornet with the root extensions of the Super Hornet, with the wings and tail of an F16. Frankenfighter.

US companies were design partner in Super sabre project that ultimately resulted in JF17. It has alot of influences from US fighter jets.

Yeah and the DSI air intake inspired from the F-35. PAF had decades of experience on F-16s and they loved it. They just made a small copy of the F-16 with some design features of hornet sprinkled over it. In first attempt they were going to build just another F-16 but due to lack of engine options and budgetary constraints settled on roughly 20% lighter/smaller jet than the desired one.

I don't think I'd want to be the one in the Jeff in a dogfight with any of those fighters. The PL-5s are lackluster Fox-2s, and the gun... well... even the DCS manual makes fun of the idea of using them in a dogfight. But the fact you pull it off as well as you do is impressive! :) Anyway, while it may be underpowered in a dogfight, it's BVR seems to be pretty good for a late-90s era aircraft, and it has really good air-to-ground, with excellent "smart weapon" capabilities. It feels like its one of those best-kept secrets in DCS.

PL-5 are actually pretty good. They are the fastest fox 2 missiles we have in DCS and I would put it between the AIm-9M and L

@@Mike_Romeo Really? I haven't used them much recently, but it seemed like they are not so great at "all aspect." Technically, they work, but the hit% is pretty low except from the rear compared to the 9M or -9P5. However, it could have always have been the idiot behind the stick, too...

You can use the rudder in a roll to really throw the jet around, just don't use any more than 40% rudder above 450 knots or you can rip it off. Which will cause you to lose your ballistics computer and most of your hud

In real combat mig pilot simply knows that it's a suicide and sudden death mission. In BVR and modern avionics JF17 is just lethal and deadliest with PL15 and other weapons. No Mig pilot will try to challenge JF17

Recommend you switch your gunsight to SSLC in special setting for the JF-17. Unless for some reason you like using LCOS more.

If you're getting out-rated in a 2-circle, I understand the idea of offsetting the circles so that over time you can turn it back into a 1-circle/radius fight. But I was thinking: what if you simply went vertical? Wouldn't that offset the circles dramatically and also give you that energy advantage on the way down?

The enemy would cut the circle and since you lose a lot of speed when you climb, you will become a sitting duck and a easy target for the enemy since you dont have the speed to do evasive maneuvers.
