"Palestinian Song" is a German song from the 13th century that was written and composed by Walther von der Vogelweide.
It is considered the greatest German poem of the Middle Ages and, above all, is one of the few medieval songs whose lyrics, but also the melody, go back to our time.
The language of the song is exactly Middle High German, a German of the time, more in today's Austria.
The song, written at the time of the 5th Crusade (1217-1221, although preparations began as early as 1213), describes the religious significance of the Holy Land, which is why the struggle of Christians is noble and just. In a way, it was a crusade incitement song that many Imperial and Central European soldiers would have sung on their way to the Levant during this period and even afterwards.
It is one of the medieval songs most appreciated by fans of this type of music today. It has been covered by many singers and ethnic groups.
