Although I am the owner of X-T5, I am very glad that the owners of X-T4 / 3 also have the opportunity to use "REALA ACE", albeit in such a roundabout and not very convenient way. I love the greens in landscape/wildlife images with Classic Neg. Though my default is now Reala Ace on my X-T5 since the highlights tend to get blown out with Classic Neg. That’s always my first choice, followed closely by Reala Ace. It’s definitely worth trying out.

This is a great video as always- I followed along, created the folder with all the files. I have an XT-30ii. I assumed I should rename the files as you explained by substituting XT-3 for XT-30. I went through the menu to find the exact way it was spelled as you recommended. Inexplicably, the menu jumps from XT-20 to XT-50, completely leaving out my little camera. I really don’t understand why since my camera is at least a little more advanced than an XT-20. I have the files saved on my desktop but I’m reticent to go forth with the rest of it until I get some resolution on this weird situation. I’ve only been shooting for a few years but I’m starting to understand what drives people crazy and away from Fujifilm that are professionals. In one way, to me, they make the best camera on earth. I would put some of the pictures I’ve taken with a $900 camera body up against a $3000 Canon camera body any day of the week but some of the decisions they make as a company are confounding. We in the Fujifilm cult want to love them! Make it easier to. Chris- you are the reason I took a chance on Fujifilm. I watched your videos and many others before I bought my first camera. It’s a lot of money, for me anyway. It’s very confusing as a novice. The consensus was Canon or Sony but I wanted a camera with soul. It has that. I love my camera and I’ve learned a ton from your videos and from the dials on the top of the camera. Maybe I’m a simpleton but I know I’m not alone. Honestly, I couldn’t have even figured out the menu without your help. Now it’s time for Fujifilm to step up and help us help them. They are brilliant but disorganized. They seem like a company with the best product in their category and yet they have to run around putting out fires everywhere. Sorry, just one more thing- The only reason I even bought a camera was because I wrote a screenplay. After realizing I didn’t even know the first thing about photography, I knew it would take a minute to make that first film. That was years ago now and I’ve realized all the mistakes I made in that first try but I’ve learned and loved taking pictures in that process. A hidden blessing. I’ve learned a lot about writing and photography but now that I want to try again- I have to look into a Sony or Canon product because of their autofocus capabilities and full frame availabilities. To me this is sad. There’s no reason Fujifilm can’t accommodate both. That said, Thank You! You’ve helped me get the most out of my camera and I appreciate all your hard work and sharing your lifetime of knowledge.

I don’t care about Reala Ace, but for Nostalgic Neg this is interesting. I knew there should be some simple LUTs hidden somewhere that make you do this. Thanks a lot for showing! This way if you use an older camera like an X-H1 together with an X-H2, you don’t have to choose film sims only both support!

This has nothing to do with your sensor. These are just Capture One presets applied to raw files. These are not the original Fujifilm (in-camera) profiles which are sensor specific. There is an alternative way of doing this which I use and I can even apply these presets to raw files from my old XT10.

interessting: I'm on Mac with C1 Fujifilm Converter (Version 16.3.8.23 built a9392cb) with my X-S10 and there are no REAL ACE X-S20-files - I collected files together, renamed and worked as well ;)

I made it before for Capture One becouse wanted Classic Negative in my XH1(I also used XH2S files) but Capture One Express no longer become free for fujifilm users and I went back to Lightroom. I might try again free version with camera serial numer. Thanks for info about it! I recently rewatch Terminator 1&2 and yesterday I was playing Terminator Resistance and what a surprise to see that shirt :D

Thanks Chris. Would you believe that C1 23 less than 12 months old will not process X-T5 raw files shot in Reala Ace, they want me to pay to upgrade. I tried a similar method to this to be able to process the files but unfortunately it didn’t work; I will try your method. I was a bit miffed that it was a paid upgrade on C1 for this when I had already paid for upgrading less than 12 months ago. Even worse, when I finally took delivery of my X100VI, my C1 won’t even open the files. I’m on the 3 months trial at the moment, but I won’t be continuing with a subscription when it expires, I’ll just use the free Fuji app.

I'm pretty sure you can just run it through X Raw studio and chose Reala Ace as the film sim. I remember doing this with my xt20 and getting Eterna that way...

I don’t think so. FXR Studio is not a stand-alone software but uses your camera to process the raw files (that’s why you need to connect your camera to your computer while using it). If you connect a XT3 you will only have available the film simulations that come with the XT3 and not those of for example the XT5. I’m not sure but didn’t the XT20 always have Eterna?

Doesn't this go to show that Reala Ace not being rolled out for pre-X-Trans 5 sensor cameras is simply a choice by Fujifilm not to do it?

It is a money driven choice and it's a total lack of respect for the customers. They did the same thing on many simulations and modifying files in raw softwares was the solution. It clearly shows that it can be added in the firmware and there's little to no chance that it's tied to hardware limitations. Fuji is always playing that "we listen to customers" card but in reality they rarely do it and many functionalities and economics of the menus could easily be corrected in many cameras but they do it only for new ones. This makes me sick of buying Fuji's.

Please bear in mind that these are only the Capture One profiles, not the original Fujifilm profiles. I read that Capture One developed these profiles in collaboration with Fujifilm and they come very close to the original Fujifilm profiles but they’re not exactly the same. So to answer your question: no, it does not show that Fujifilm could do the same with firmware updates of older models. Actually, I’m not aware that Fujifilm ever brought new film simulations to older camera models. They say it’s technically not possible.

No. XT3. The xt30 uses the xt3 files. Worked for me at least.

Were the shots taken at DR100? I don’t think Capture One changes the tone curve automatically for DR200/DR400, and you will have an image exposed 1 stop lower (DR200) or two stops lower (DR400). Hope that helps

@@mcyavel1 how it is done in Capture One has nothing to do with the camera. Capture One gives you *their version* of the Fuji simulation. The simulation Capture One has absolutely nothing to do with your camera or the data it recorded. What is done here is just changing file names to enable using a Capture One preset to a raw file from a camera. The ”magic” here is merely toggling filenames to allow applying the Capture One settings to an older camera. Your camera works just the same as it used to, nothing is changed. I am sure Fuji are making it a selling point, but the sensor is also different, which explains the slight difference on the images. How easy and at what cost Fuji could design the simulation for the older sensor, and update the in-camera software to do it, is anyone’s guess.

for me, editing is deathly dull and once I just accepted that I couldn't edit a RAW file to look much better than a Fujifilm jpeg my workflow became much simpler. I shoot raw only and edit in-camera. I have a few go to recipes but mostly just tweak film sim, exposure and wb. Then the jpegs are cropped, leveled etc out of camera. The film sims make this so easy.

So you get a camera+lens for 5k dollars to take good quality pictures....and then you have to edit them, or you want to change them? I am sorry, but I buy a good camera so I do not have to edit. If I need to edit, I would not spend that much on a camera. I really love my xt5, because I do not have to edit the pictures [much], especially after all I learnt from the best teacher in the world: Mr Pal2tech. I follow his instructions and my photos come out pretty good quality directly from the camera....
