Chris, thanks for the review. A great video as always! I can tell how much efforts you put in each of your videos. I’ve been using the Viltrox 56mm f/1.7 for a few months now, and it’s fantastic for portraits-sharp, with smooth bokeh. That said, I also own TTArtisan’s 56mm f/1.8, which has a more classic rendering and a unique feel for creative work. Both have their place, depending on the mood I want to create.

@@pal2tech I took some pictures with my new lens yesterday and Im so amazed by its performance! It reminds me of the old great time I had with my D90+50/1.4D but everything got improved so much! Super light weight, fast and good performance in the afternoon & night. If there is anything I have to complain, I wish it could come with WR feature. (Somehow Viltrox doesn’t seem to have many WR lens (?)) But overall Im pretty satisfied with my affordable, light weight but mighty lens:)

I got this lens a short while ago, and I have found pretty much everything you say. I left it on my camera for a week, which occasionally bit my butt because I was way too "zoomed in" for some of my street efforts. But when the subject is at the right distance for this lens, I saw pretty much the same performance you said. Like someone else said, I watched the WHOLE video, even though I already own this lens. (That's how good you are.)

Just watched this and the Chris Frost review of this lens. Interesting to note chris's copy was pin sharp wide open where as this review showed softness. However, Chris reviewed on the Xt3 with a smaller sensor so wonder if the Viltrox struggles with the higher MP resolution or maybe manufacturing variability.

Hello Chris! uhm would u say this lens is better than the sigma 56mm?
@ryan2641-f2e2 ай бұрын
I keep going back and forth on which one to get - Viltrox is definitely popular, but something about TTArtisan’s 56mm slightly more classic rendering has me curious. For those of you who do a lot of portrait work, have you found TTArtisan adds any kind of extra depth to backgrounds? Trying to figure out if it’s worth the switch.

I keep going back and forth between Viltrox’s 56mm and the TTArtisan. Viltrox seems reliable with good autofocus, but I’m drawn to the idea of TTArtisan’s unique look, especially since I shoot a lot of portraits. People say the TTArtisan is a little bit sharper for portraits, which sounds fun. Curious if anyone here has found it makes a difference in practice?

Great review, thanks Chris ! The lack of aperture ring is a real deal breaker for me, these manual controls are why I chose Fuji in the first place. I guess I should look for a good deal on the 1.4 version of the lens, although this doesn't seem to be stabilised either, so maybe not a very good choice for my X-T30 II. By the way, I loved your "rolling barrel" shot of the lens, super cool ! And also made my Belgian heart happy with the Tintin albums ! :D

This was my first prime lens after using the 18-55mm kit lens for 6 months with my X-S10. It's a wonderful lens for portraits, very sharp and great for low light photos and videos. And it's cheap enough so it'sa low-risk purchase I'm still using kit lens much more, but that's because it's more versatile.

I’ve been researching both the Viltrox 56mm and TTArtisan 56mm, and I can’t decide. The Viltrox is well-reviewed, but the TTArtisan’s design is so sleek, and it seems sharper wide open. Plus, the price difference is tempting. Has anyone compared the two side-by-side?

How well does this lens create background blur (bokeh)? Additionally, could you provide insights on its low-light performance? I'm also interested in understanding how the autofocus performs specifically for capturing moving subjects in photography, not videography.
@9Mtikcus4 ай бұрын
Having cheaper options is always a good thing, no one is forced to buy them, but you don't always need the best lenses either. Even professionals sometimes want a lens that covers something they don't normally shoot but don't want to spend $$$$ on the best of the best. I had hoped that when fuji released the XC 35 F/2 it was the start of a budget series, but then there were no other lenses; However, then Sigma joined the game officially, and various Chinese 3rd party manufacturers have made X Mount autofocus lenses without official licence (as far as I know). Which has helped fuji and fuji users by giving lower cost options.

Although the AF may be clunky and slow I still like this lens for walk about and street photography because it is so nice and light and compact. Only my old manual lenses are smaller but they are noticeably less sharp. I can adjust it and the. 2 min later it doesn’t work. I can obv change my shutter speed to auto and have it work all the time, but hoping to keep that control, use Auto ISO and use my comp to tweak.
