Do your pale pink marker blends usually end up hot pink, magenta, or even red? You're not alone!
Pale pink blends often look flat but the shading techniques we learn from tutorials can turn softly colored flowers brighter, bolder, and significantly darker. Is there a way to color flowers both pastel AND dimensional?
Illustrator and art instructor, Amy Shulke shares four methods for coloring pastel flowers with depth, dimension, and even realism.
Amy's videos offer coloring tutorials based on fine art techniques, realistic blending combinations, and marker blending lessons for mixed media Copic Markers + colored pencils. This episode demonstrates how a professional artist creates depth and dimension without increasing color value.

This is such great info. I loved all 4 tips. And yes, I’ve struggled with pinks. That last contrast one is a winner for most coloring projects. I’ll try all the tips.

Oh now it makes sense. I'm pretty good at learning crafts and arts. But i've been failed repeatedly when it's comes to alcohol markers and digital art. Hope one day i'll be able to master this too 😅

You can definitely master markers; everyone can. If what you're doing now doesn't work, change it up. Take a class or if you are taking classes, find a different instructor. Also check your paper because good paper really is key to good results.

Hi Amy! I'm so happy I found your channel. Thank you for all the Copic tricks and lessons you're making. I'm just starting out with alcohol markers (coming from a watercolor and colored pencil background) and funnily enough the first Copics I bought were all the muted/dusty colors! I guess I'm a Dirty Little Troll Gal because I think they're prettier than the bright, over saturated colors. I do have a question though... have you ever talked about which makers have colors that are so similar that you'd really only need one of them when your marker collection is still small? I.e. the swatches for YG03, YG13, and YG23 all look exactly the same on my monitor. I would go over to my local Michael's, but ever since they lost a lot of markers to theft, all the single markers are locked in what appears to be the securest case they have; I'm pretty sure it requires two employees to turn a key at the same time and then pass a retinal scan to open it.

@@kestrelshobbies9976 I used to have a list of Copic twins but then as we started using multiple brands of paper in classes, the twins didn’t always look the same. I also got into a situation where half the class used a twin and they struggled with the lesson because chemistry is more important than color. Similar colors can behave radically different. But now that you mention it, it sounds like a good idea for a video. I’ll add it to my brainstorm list!

Dont know... theres many colors called pink that are dark and NOT red... even 1 pigmented pinks... so i dont see the problem. And even copic has not only darker reds but darker pinks too. And i dont mean DARK pinks, i mean darker ones than the lightest ones that are still light colors and not considered dark... Well IF you have that problem with alcohol markers, try waercolors. Best art medium for coloring with really light colors and dark of course too

Valid points but I'm not really here to push marker fans into watercolor. I'm trying to help marker people get great results from markers. I suspect from your avatar that you're probably not a card maker but there are a large number of people who color stamps who want to get depth and dimension from their pale pink markers. Right now, tutorials are telling them to add dark pink. I'm simply suggesting ways to keep the desired pale pink without darkening the value of the petal.
