I really do appreciate you sharing your work. Always outstanding. I am a knapper as well lost my left hand five years ago to flesh eating bacteria. Have had to learn all over again but I am still at it😊

That's a case anyone from any era of history would be proud of! I really like these points that you and Marty have been showing lately. It's nice to see the points from all the different angles. One of my knapping goals is snyders as nice as yours, Thanks for all the videos!

Thanks so much Flakes InYerShoe, I appreciate your kind words. Making Snyder's points like these is what inspired me to pursue knapping. I am probably best known for making them. I saw some that were made by Tim Dillard and it was on to learn to make them hopefully as good as he did. I'm still working toward that goal.

I still have the eagle you made for me way back in the early 90’s. I did have a very nice knife with a deer antler handle you made me that unfortunately broke sometime back. That sucked because you even made a nice leather sheath too. Maybe someday you could make me another when I come out. Maybe.😊

Your talent is off the charts. Do you ever sell your points?
@Paleoman52
@Paleoman52 Жыл бұрын
I have sold a few in the past, but I make so few of them now that I am having a hard time parting with them. I give away more points than I sell. If someone comes to my mancave and wants to see how I knap, I make a point and usually give it to that person.

Absolutely awesome stuff right there bud!! That is some of the nicest stone I’ve ever seen! I dream of the day that I come across some rock of the quality your chipping. I’ve noticed, the nicer the rock, the better my bifaces come out…quick question too…say for these points here, are you able to stick with your main moose billet for all the percussion work or do you switch to a lighter billet once most of the thinning is done??
@Paleoman52
@Paleoman52 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments KB! I use my large moose billet almost right to the end of my percussion flaking. The mass behind that large heavy billet really pushes those flakes across the face of the blade. You just have to make sure you support the piece well but not to tight and be sure your platform edges are abraded (again not too much) and use a more direct striking angle. Once I learned to do this I went from making turtle back points to thin flat blades.
@kb8030
@kb8030 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. It’s crazy how much power you get out of that shorter billet. I understand about being more aggressive with my angles and I’m sure to try it out. Thanks for the help, it’s very much appreciated!!!!

Yeah, them's pretty good.LOL I've not had any novaculite yet, but I'm not a big fan of working the obsidian.To much like glass.It does make attractive specimens though.
@Paleoman52
@Paleoman52 Жыл бұрын
You and me both FS, obsidian is my last choice of material to work with. You should try some Novaculite for sure, one thing about it though is it likes to have lots of small flake termination hinges and what you have to do is when you are finished working a piece, warm it up gently and rub it with beeswax. That will fill those little air spaces below those hinges and clean up the surface. Some Novaculite does knap pretty clean but for those pieces that don't the beeswax method works great.
@FlintSpall
@FlintSpall Жыл бұрын
@@Paleoman52 Good tip.I assume that beeswax application is a one time thing or does it dry out and need to reapply?
@Paleoman52
@Paleoman52 Жыл бұрын
@@FlintSpall You only have to apply it one time and it is good. The only way to take it off would be to heat up the stone and wipe it off. If you apply it correctly you really can't tell it is there. It also helps bring out the color of the stone. I use beeswax for everything, including woodworking.
