Great video of a beautiful part of central London. Most people seeing this will be unaware that’s the interior of the magnificent Reform Club Building @ 4:03 has been used over the years in many movies including 2 James Bond movies and way back in 1956, Around the World in 80 days.

Great video. As a Londoner who knows these areas so well, it’s interesting to get a different perspective from the lens of a camera. We can so often take for granted just how beautiful these parts of London are. For all its many faults it’s still overall the greatest city on earth.

These videos are absolutely brilliant and you learn so much from them, they're perfect for planning a trip to London and I love the girl's voice, it's so relaxing to listen to her. That was interesting to hear about the waiting list for the gentleman's clubs, I used to volunteer at the Dickens Museum 15 years ago and I remember hearing about Charles Dickens frequenting these clubs. Great video Sinead 👍

I read or heard somewhere that at some point prior to her funeral, Princess Diana's body lay in St. James's Palace---prior to being taken to Kensington Palace. Why was she there?
@ToursbyFootLondon Жыл бұрын
It is tradition for members of the royal family to lay in state before their funerals. You may have seen the late Queens casket in Westminster Hall on television. In Diana's case, it also gave time for preparations and funeral arrangements to be carried out and also allowed for private moments with her family.

im actually head of a certain gentlemens club in London. its a good story, but im currently too busy to elaborate. Cant tell you why im busy either. Its confidential. -Mr. important high horse man
@rongenung Жыл бұрын
It appears that the Queen lived in the "high rent district." I would love to be able to enter one of those gentlemen's' clubs. As an American, whenever I see the beautiful Union Jack, I wonder why, in its diagonal stripes, the red part of the stripes is off-center in the white part of those stripes. It must mean something. Maybe someone can tell me. Another great tour Sinead! What is the name of the street that these clubs are on?
@ToursbyFootLondon Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the tour, Ron! And that's a great question. The Union Flag is made up of multiple flags stacked 'on top' of one another: Red Cross of St. George for England, White diagonal cross of St. Andrew for Scotland and the red diagonal cross of St. Patrick for Northern Ireland. St. Patrick was the last to be added and it was felt, at the time, that if the cross of St. Patrick was placed directly on top of the cross of St. Andrew that it would look as though the Northern Irish flag would have precedence over the Scottish flag. So, as a bit of a compromise, the heralds placed the cross off centre so that the white cross is 'on top' on the first and third quarters and the Red Cross is 'on top' on the second and fourth. :)
@rongenung Жыл бұрын
Thank you! That is fascinating. Your knowledge of the British Isles and their history is impressive and one reason why your tours are so interesting. And especially when it comes to the city of London. @@ToursbyFootLondon

These days in America, a "gentlemen's club" is another name for a strip club. How sad. And Pall Mall is a cigarette brand (also known as "Red Devils"). We don't have much class in America.
