Today's walk takes you through a bit of the City of Westminster, more precisely in the neighborhood of St. James's. MORE LONDON VIDEOS • Playlist .
We start with a walk along Pall Mall, home to some of the most exclusive gentlemen's clubs in the world. Then, we'll take a trip down to St. James's Palace, the most important and senior royal palace in London.
We'll talk a little bit about clandestine royal affairs, scandals, and underground tunnels when we take a walk down Crown Passage, where we will also see one of the oldest pubs in London.
Next, we will make a quick stop on King Street, where we will see the world-famous Sothebys before taking a walk along St. James's Street, the exclusive shopping district of the royal family.
We'll see where Winston Churchill purchased his cigars, where Kate Middleton buys her hats, and where Prince Charles celebrated his bachelor party.
Finally, we will end at the Ritz on Piccadilly.

Great video. As a Londoner who knows these areas so well, it’s interesting to get a different perspective from the lens of a camera. We can so often take for granted just how beautiful these parts of London are. For all its many faults it’s still overall the greatest city on earth.

Thank you for bits & pieces of trivia on buildings, bars, etc. Been to London, and outside like Cotswolds, Kent, Canterbury, Stratford-upon-Avon, Northampton for the late Princess Diana's Althorp home, etc. but this video showed a lot more on streets of London and proximity to known areas.

Great video of a beautiful part of central London. Most people seeing this will be unaware that’s the interior of the magnificent Reform Club Building @ 4:03 has been used over the years in many movies including 2 James Bond movies and way back in 1956, Around the World in 80 days.

These videos are absolutely brilliant and you learn so much from them, they're perfect for planning a trip to London and I love the girl's voice, it's so relaxing to listen to her. That was interesting to hear about the waiting list for the gentleman's clubs, I used to volunteer at the Dickens Museum 15 years ago and I remember hearing about Charles Dickens frequenting these clubs. I read or heard somewhere that at some point prior to her funeral, Princess Diana's body lay in St. James's Palace---prior to being taken to Kensington Palace. Why was she there?
@FreeToursbyFootLondon
@FreeToursbyFootLondon Жыл бұрын
It is tradition for members of the royal family to lay in state before their funerals. You may have seen the late Queens casket in Westminster Hall on television. In Diana's case, it also gave time for preparations and funeral arrangements to be carried out and also allowed for private moments with her family.

It appears that the Queen lived in the "high rent district." I would love to be able to enter one of those gentlemen's' clubs. As an American, whenever I see the beautiful Union Jack, I wonder why, in its diagonal stripes, the red part of the stripes is off-center in the white part of those stripes. It must mean something. Maybe someone can tell me. Another great tour Sinead! What is the name of the street that these clubs are on?
@FreeToursbyFootLondon
@FreeToursbyFootLondon Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the tour, Ron! And that's a great question. The Union Flag is made up of multiple flags stacked 'on top' of one another: Red Cross of St. George for England, White diagonal cross of St. Andrew for Scotland and the red diagonal cross of St. Patrick for Northern Ireland. St. Patrick was the last to be added and it was felt, at the time, that if the cross of St. Patrick was placed directly on top of the cross of St. Andrew that it would look as though the Northern Irish flag would have precedence over the Scottish flag. So, as a bit of a compromise, the heralds placed the cross off centre so that the white cross is 'on top' on the first and third quarters and the Red Cross is 'on top' on the second and fourth. :)

These days in America, a "gentlemen's club" is another name for a strip club. How sad. And Pall Mall is a cigarette brand (also known as "Red Devils"). We don't have much class in America.
