Old History of Pallavan Express. During MG Era, it was operated from Madras to Madurai and back similar to Vaigai which operates from Madurai to Madras and back. It was a non daily service similar to Vaigai. Vaigai will not be operated on Tuesdays and Pallavan was operated on all days. In Madurai it always comes in Platform 1 except on Tuesday. On Tuesdays, Pallavan will be received in Platform 3. Before that Vaigai rake which was maintained was waiting in Platform 1, used to run as Pallavan and workers used to carry the Boards and run towards platform 1 to fix it. Due to operational difficulties and also issues in returning back to Chennai, it was cancelled and Vaigai was operated with 16 coaches and two YDM4A locos. Later again it was introduced as Pallavan from Trichy and with rake sharing, which is continuing till now. During MG Era, Vaigai was the only service runs end to end diesel up to Madras Egmore, where the engine got reversed as shot hood again to go to Madurai. This was also had an unique green yellow livery with matching engine livery. Unforgettable moments. Now all are gone and both Pallavan and Vaigai are operated as a normal day time SF express and lost their prestige.
