I’m truly blessed - I have about 40 varieties in northeastern Connecticut. They are the beautiful workhorse of my flower beds and I love them all!

I love the way peonies look, I've only ever seen them on KZbin or in pictures because apparently here in Florida the Peonies don't thrive and don't survive for long. If I ever move again I want to be sure it is far enough north to be able to grow peonies.

I'm sitting here looking out over my peony bed where 16 plants are starting to bloom. I moved them over two years to make sure they were planted right. But I have never tried cutting them so early. Must try that soon since many are now showing color.

How come your peonies have not any ants showing 🤔
@TheKoolbraider Жыл бұрын
@@sherrythompson7128 Could you explain? I get lots of ants. I put the stems in a bucket of water, out on the porch, until they crawl away. It works well.

Oh Allen! I have peony envy! Love Gilbert H. Wild too and order something from them every year thanks to you! I have loved peonies for so long and wish I had better experience with them here in Zone 8a North Texas area. I purchased some a few years ago and unfortunately someone we hired to plant trees went ahead and planted the peonies and I know they planted them too deep to flower. They leaf out beautifully so I need to dig them up and replant somewhere. Thanks so much for your great videos and info. Love your beautiful Moss Mountain and have visited once. If I still lived in my home state of Arkansas, I would volunteer to work in your gardens. :)

Very timely. My peonies are just budding. I generally don’t cut the flowers off at all, but now I know how to cut them. Thanks.

I live in middle Georgia which I understand isn't the best of places to grow peonies...the lack of cold winter has much to do with that. But nonetheless I decided some 30 years ago to give them a try. I planted 2 types..Festival Maxima and Sarah Bernhardt. Sarah was in too much shade...greens up but no flowers. But Festiva Maxima has been more successful. Full sun, probably 8 hours a day. And has produced some beautiful flowers. There have been years of no blooms but this year I've seen 6 to 8 buds forming. They are one of my favorite flowers, a single one in a vase really is a delight to enjoy.

I can almost smell this video! These are my mother's absolute favorite flowers. I love that you can cut them in the marshmallow stage and ship them. I hope one day to be able to have a home where I can plant a whole garden of different varieties so they'll bloom like you said in stages for longer periods of time. I do have a question... can these be planted in a large container? I currently live in an apartment, but have a large porch that can get both full sun and shade. I was wondering if I had a large container would i be able to plant them and grow them now, and then transplant them into a garden when I get a house? I live in Western NC in the Asheville area. Thanks!

Hii, 💕I received a beautiful bouquet of peonies. I have a question, I can see seed pods in the center of some of them, is it possible to re plant those once the petals fall off?? 💕

I want to plant in my shade garden; What kind of arrangement of purple perennials should I plant. I also have some Hostas there. I live in NE Tennessee.

Interesting observation: Two properties each with peonies. One cuts them to the ground (to keep it tidy) after flowering and the other guy does absolutely nothing - doesn't even clean dead foliage in fall. I noticed the one that was completely neglected has many huge blooms and strong stems. The one that was cut back has much smaller, fewer blooms on weaker stems. Even though they are the same variety the neglected ones are more fragrant too! Now I can see why they live so long on old farmsteads and cemeteries!

So if we have a mild winter in VA, I might not bet many blooms? We didn’t have many this year.

Ant problems? Save your orange peels! Make a tincture with white vinegar. Let it set for 2 weeks, in a closed bottle. Strain out the peel and pour in a spray bottle. Spray areas you have ants, indoors and outdoors.

I’m in Central PA and mine do just fine. Sometimes they will get powdery mildew early on in the fall because they are planted close to the house and don’t get enough air circulation (I think?) but otherwise PA a is a good state for them!

Transplants can take a while. They don’t really like to be moved too much. Give it time. She’ll come around.

I'm always amazed how myopic people are when it comes to horticulture. Peonies have been hybridized for a few thousand years. Starting in China as a medicinal source then as a hybrid flower of beauty. Upon landing nearby in Japan, the people there put their own spin of beauty on this princess of flowers before they went out to the rest of the world for further cross pollination. All these names on varieties of "old favorites" makes it seem their Asian "roots" never had anything to do with their origin, when in actuality the form we now identify was created by these people. So at least give them their proper kudos when talking of their history.
