that is a brilliantly simple fix. and the forks being able to lift up is prolly nicer than if they where clamped solidly on.

Nice idea, I really like it! I have factory made lip forks for my JD 420. Hooks across the top of the bucket grab a round bar, and the right angle forks dangle down and rest with back pressure against the lower front lip. Chains wrap around from the bottom to the top so they stay with the machine when I withdraw from a load. Just an idea to reduce the flexion on the bottom of your bucket for your narrow mount is to slip a 1/4 or 1/2" pc of flat stock under the forks to spread the load. Of course that won't help the flexion of your cross pipe. Perhaps a strut from the pipe back up to the underside of the top of your bucket would help stiffen that and spread the load. You've made a ton of great videos, and I've seen about 70 of them so far. I look forward to more... Keep up the great work!
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 9 жыл бұрын
David Miller Thanks for watching my videos. I do get some flex, especially when I move them inwards to the center of the bar. Not a huge problem for this tiny tractor but definitely an issue if I was able to lift more. A quick strut off the center of the pipe to the top of the bucket would help a ton. Good idea.

I just bolted two truck springs to the underside of my bucket, using grade 8 bolts. I lift 1,500 lb. logs all the time with them. CAUTION----be careful not to lift/curl too much or the log will roll backwards and onto the operator, a possibly fatal mistake.

love the MTD gardens tractors i have a1989 white 992 it;s the same thing as your 995 thying to build a loader like yours.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 990 series are definitely nice tractors. The loader is an original MTD loader and I don't think they sold very many new. I had to put a ton of weight on the back to make it manageable to drive/steer with a loaded bucket. But the steering is still very worn from years of stress on it.
@NateWilson99
@NateWilson99 10 жыл бұрын
sixtyfiveford I would guess so. Ive got a 1985 mtd, but, more like mtd made for Montgomery ward, so its an mtd/Montgomery ward.... anyway. Theyre great tractors, I haven't had anything major break on it... knock on wood... but that thing will go through anything! Sand, water, dirt, gravel, etc. That looks like a good tractor, is it electric hydraulics? I saw the headlights straining. I want to make a tri point hitch for mine. To fit small plows and stuff. That'd be neat. Good job on the forks, I was expecting all out bucket off, homemade mounts, etc.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the headlights have a short in them. It runs off a standard hydraulic pump. If you look close you can see the pump below the headlights hanging off the front. It runs off the front pulley on the engine. This also has a 3 point hitch but I have others that have a sleeve hitch. I think the 3 point is overrated on these small tractors and a simpler sleeve hitch is more than adequate.
@NateWilson99
@NateWilson99 10 жыл бұрын
I just thought that it'd be cool to have that. If you think about it, having a bucket that big on these things is a little much too. I have 23" tires on the back. And about a foot of clearance under it.

***** It doesn't so you just need good counter weights on the back.
@HomesteadOC
@HomesteadOC 6 жыл бұрын
Good job, have you tested the weight? How much can the 990 lift without tipping forward? What kind of ballast do you have in the back?
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 6 жыл бұрын
When I got it, it had zero ballast and would struggle with rear traction/front steering with only 100-200lbs. I added 4 cement filled cinder blocks, wheel weights and a few steel weights. They add up to 400ish pounds(if I recall) and now the tractor can lift 500+ pounds with the bucket. The forks stick out so far that leverage takes hold and I'm limited to around 200lbs. If I took off the bucket and placed forks back 2 feet where the bucket connects I would have around 500 pounds of lifting force with the forks.
