For those still reading comments - I come from a family of anxious people. Mum had agoraphobia, grandad had heart panics ever since he was told he had a heart murmur as a young boy. Grandad lived to 97 fit as a flea. I learned from them how panic attacks etc work. In my twenties I got Graves’ disease. This is when everything speeds up, including your heart rate. It used to beat fast and loud so much I couldn’t sleep and although I was genuinely ill and having treatment and regular checks, I still had anxiety (it’s a feature of the disease). One day I had a full blown panic attack with palpitations and dissociation and jumped the queue to see my doctor. He gave me a quick exam and declared it ‘hysteria’. He was an old fashioned type. It made me laugh. I went home, stopped worrying and got on with my life. I realised I had got into the same trap as mum and grandad. There is a book from the 1960s Self Help For Your Nerves by Claire Weeks. It was my mums bible and cured her phobia. So I borrowed it and read it twice. Wonderful book that explains how anxiety causes the symptoms that then feed anxiety and so on. The cure is simple - understand the mechanism and let the panic thoughts do as they will but don’t attach to them (float through). I think this knowledge should be taught in schools. It’s so sad seeing people on the comments being surprised about how anxiety works. The other thing I want to add is that certain physical things can give you harmless palpitations. For my mum it was having her tonsils taken out and sent to walk home. For me it was my disease. Low iron can do this, so young girls with heavy flow can get them. It can also happen after a virus during recovery. Acid reflux can set them off. Hope this helps.

Thank you ma’am for this video. I suffer from the same things. Palpitations can range from anything from a Fast heartbeat that is noticeable, thumping in your chest, to a feeling of skipped beats. What you are describing, which is what I experience for most of the day now, are premature ventricular contractions. Or PVCs. It is where the hearts ventricle decides to contract out of rhythym from the rest of the heart, causing a skip in the rhythm and a more prominent heartbeat afterwards, which is the sensation of the skip and thump in your chest. I started noticing them a few years ago but they were just here and there, then I would get episodes of them for a few hours on certain days. Now I literally get them almost most of the day every day. When I first saw a cardiologist about them, they did the entire work up with cardiac enzymes, Echo cardio gram and exercise stress test. I’ve actually done these tests twice now and I’ll have come back normal so of course I was told everything is OK. Mind you I am a nurse in the medical field, I’m even studying to be a nurse practitioner. With that said, one would think that that would help ease my mind, but it actually just makes it more stressful for me. Stopping to think about it, work has become more stressful, and of course being in school is always stressful. So at the end of the day maybe it is just stress. But that sensation in your chest just makes you wonder one day it’s just going to stop and it’s very stressful. So I hear you, And hopefully you and I can get through it and we’ll be OK.

I've been experiencing something similar! I started having palps a year and a half ago, and usually i would have one maybe like... Once a month if that. Then it became once a week, few times a week, couple times a day... Today is the WORST day I've had with them. Been having one what feels like once every 5 to 15 minutes. This last week has been particularly exhausting and stressful, and I haven't slept or ate very well so honestly I'm not surprised. Reading this makes me feel a bit better. (Also of course thinking about it makes them happen even more, how fun!l 😅

It can be in my chest or in my throat.. If i'd of not just went to the doctor and got a work up of my heart a yr or yr and a half ago , I'd be going back.. Cherelle- I haven’t gotten thru your entire video but I suffered an entire year with heart palpitations and anxiety. I had it so bad one night that I had to be rushed to the ER by ambulance. I got all the tests you can possibly think of and follow up with a Cardiologist but they could find nothing. Frustrated I quit and restarted several things but the thing that did it for me was CAFFEINE! I tried testing it- I’d have caffeine in many forms- coffee, tea, sodas, dark chocolate all those things did it for me so I had to let go of them. Haven’t had heart palpitations or anxiety since. Please look into quitting caffeine for a bit if it’s something you consume even in cakes- one of my favorite desserts molten lava cake I had to quit because that triggered my attacks too. Give it a try and see how it goes. All the best!

That's what my Cardiologist stated, no Caffeine for a month and I bet it stops. Bet not, I was correct-a-mundo so I started it again with no more than I had before. Studies have shown that there's no effect with people with heart skips that drank Caffeine and people that didn't. I'm still not going to believe that. I think something's gone wrong somewhere in the electrical part and Anxiety and Caffeine only add to it, not the root cause of the problem. The problem is they won't do anything to find it. This is pure BS to have to live this way and thank God it was when I was 58 and not 38 when it started.

I have been having sleep disorders since March. For some unknown reason my heart starts racing up when I'm just about to fall asleep (and I can feel the blood pumping through all my body) which lasts a few minutes. This can happen multiple times in a row until I can finally fall asleep. During the day I'm completely normal and feel no problems on my body. There is nothing concerning my mind (at least in an active way) and I'm unable to associate this problem to anything psychological. I've already gone to a doctor which made me do some blood/urine tests and heart exams. They were both fine (a bit low on Vitamin D but I'm already taking care of that). After finding no issues with those exams, the doctor requested a thyroid exam to check if there is any hormonal unbalance (Hypothyroidism) that might be causing this problem, but everything was normal. I also did an ultrasound exam and the doctor detected a lump of 11mm on my thyroid which requires examination later this year to make sure it's not growing (at the time of the check it seemed benign, the doctor told me not to worry about as it is not uncommon) - I'm not sure that it can have some impact on this situation or not, but from the blood test, hormonal values were normal. When I got back to the "original" doctor with the results she told me that nothing out of the ordinary is showing up on record and that is most likely anxiety related. I was prescribed with some medicine to help in falling asleep but they are not very effective, I still feel the heart pumping almost every night. It's a very hard thing to deal with, especially when it strikes out of nowhere.

I had heart palpitations and everything that you described with it. I spent a year in the dark, afraid yet annoyed that maybe it was just all in my head. What finally made me get it check it out was all the symptoms were just getting stronger, I ended up finding out I had sinus tachycardia. Everything was benign and I was fine. My anxious feelings were practically gone, & my heart palpitations went down a whole bunch, I also sleep better than before. They still come up daily, but not as much. I don't let the palpitations or pains scare me anymore. (: we are very much alike with health anxiety and practically every other fear, I am glad to know I'm not alone and that we are okay!!!! Best wishes!

Sorry to here your not well, I deal with palpitations and anxiety as well. I used to take medication for the anxiety but stopped taking them because I did not want to feel dependent with the medication. It's been a few years, and I've been able to control it now. As for the palpitations, they used to be bad as well. Scare me to the point of rushing to the hospital. And of course each time they said I was fine. My cardiologist advise to up my daily water intake. And surprisingly, for me, it did help. You wouldn't think something so simple can make a difference. Also try to stay in a positive mind set. Try doing something that will keep your mind busy, like a puzzle or drawing or painting. Watch a comedy that makes you laugh. Something to distract you of thinking of how your feeling every moment. Itll take some time get back to where you'll feel comfortable, but stay strong and continue to tell yourself, "I am fine, I will be okay, and I'll always be okay, I'm healthy and strong". Also, your not ever alone. There's always someone to reach out to. Good luck, and hope you feel well soon.

Night time is the worse for me, I really wish I could get some rest like normal people do, but palpitations attack the worse at night time. I just try to ease into bed, even though it’s torture, I use the senses method, I feel the bed sheets, touch the different texture of the pillow or blanket, and I look around the room and find the different interesting colors, mindfulness does help so much.

When I noticed i was going through it I immediately sat my self up and made sure the cool fan was blowing on me. I timed it it all started at 11:53 pm and I started to feel my feet get a soar and numb feeling as if I need to stretch or something, I was twitchy from the waist down and hands were sweaty and numb. I was getting super tired like if I was abouta just pass out but during all of that I was under so much stress, but I gladly got thought it. When it all ended it was around 1:47 am.. I sometimes get them when I’m asleep I’ll wake up to the sound of my heart beating & heavy breathing. But I’m slowly learning how to handle this on my own just in case nobody is near to help me..

Is muscle twitching dangerous? I got it often for years now due anxiety it freaks me out so much that i developed a fear of lying still because the twitches then come drives me to the point of being afraid to sleep.

Leslie Chow: No, I had them too when I was 18. I was told it was Anxiety and when I forgot about them, they went away. They did come back in 1995 but stopped once I ignored them again. It is a common symptom of Anxiety. I don't want to scare you but I thought I was getting MS. The Doctor said if that was the case, I would have other symptoms, which I didn't have. Nothing happened, so I guess they were right. lol.
