Marilyn Monroe, for one, was very troubled and exploited. In Japan, idols [young women pop singers/actors] are expected to act naïve and innocent while also being sex symbols. Their management contracts often prohibit them from being themselves and from dating others, lest they get fired. Are they complicit? Yes, but they also have fewer avenues into show business in a sexist, male-dominated world.

I would absolutely support a remake of "Summertime" with Pamela!! Or, probably more accurately, another movie adaptation of "The Time of the Cuckoo" (since it was a play first). If not another movie version, it would be really cool to see Pam do the original play on Broadway. I think she'd be really great if they ever did a revival of it.
