Played this for the first time yesterday and I agree 100%. It's a 9/10 in its category, this should be a "Modern day Monopoly". Seriously, give this one a try, it's WONDERFUL.

The part you like about this game - where you turn your routes into income which you then use to buy stock, which serves as the game's victory points - sort of reminds me of Panamax. In that game, you ship cargo which earns income, which you use to increase the stock price of your company which is inturn used to pay you personal dividends, which decides the winner. Whew! Not entirely alike, but similar enough that Panamax came to mind. Plus, both games are equally attractive and appear to be the same weight. Regardless, great job on the video. You really got down into the weeds without getting too detailed. Perfect balance for a review!

Pan am has 5/7 of the same name as Panamax, so pretty alike! :)

@@CTHenry Thanks CT! I do feel drawn to covering games that are a little less noticed. Probably not the best strategy for getting lots of views, but feel good about pointing people towards cool things they may have missed otherwise. Happy you enjoyed Blitzkrieg!

Great review. Pan-Am is a game that is getting great reviews everywhere, but it's such a weird IP theme. I don't think anyone has every said they wanted a game about Pan-Am. I almost wonder if it was just a generic game about the golden age of air travel, without the Pan-Am name on it, if it would be more appealing.
@bgm-19614 жыл бұрын
I did! :) I've always wanted a game which evokes the aura of the golden age of air travel. There was a failed Kickstarter about five years ago, called 'Clear for Takeoff'. It promised to do a good job of evoking the atmosphere of the age (check out its KS page to see its artwork and some of the snazziest KS videos I've ever seen for a boardgame). Anyway, since it's failure, I've been waiting for something else to come along. Pan Am is it! And its name is perfect. Couldn't be a better choice for a game title. I mean, if you want to encapsulate the entire feeling and scope of a game with only a two word title, the words "Pan" and "Am" do it! Pan Am airlines is THE iconic airline of the golden age. (TWA came in at a distant 2nd). I think the title does a perfect job of evoking what is an unique theme. So unique, that it's automatically attractive. As soon as I just heard about the game, I knew I wanted it.

@@bgm-1961 exactly. The golden age of air travel is such an underused theme. I'm surprised there hasn't been a game on it already. It's a treasure trove of art, design, you have so many vintage posters to draw from, and I love how all the graphic design on the whole game is purpose-made to look like it's from 1960. I had a silly smile on my face when I opened the game up. I just loved it. This is the only game that I ordered on sight, without seeing anything about it or watching an unboxing. I never do that, but I did it for this one.

I think I’m actually on my 10-year-old’s account and he is the perfect customer for this game in that he loves pan am and everything from that time period. Now if I can just figure out how to play the game...

This is the game that I like the most from prospero Hall; the mechanics, the ideas, the setting and the art just completely sells this game for me; consdering that I am a huge fan of Godzilla and that I prefered Pan Am over the Godzilla game Prospero did, that says a lot.

At 7:35, don't forget that placed Airports also provide income for each round, whereas the cards don't.

How much do the stock cards cost? I was assuming the the ONE stock card cost $1 and the FIVE cost $5?? But then I thought that stock price effects the stock card. So I’m a bit confused.

I feel that this has a place in the market because it seems like a spiritual successor to Alan R. Moon's _Airlines Europe_ which is not that easy to get any more.
@grog35143 жыл бұрын
They are very different games. Pan am is a worker placement game that has a small section of the game that deals with stock value whereas airlines europe is entirely about the stock mechanism. Very different feel to both games as well.

This is an odd game for me. The randomness of Pan Am buying routes is strange and feels clunky. It makes sense thematically but it makes for an odd push pull.
