I love the way Cpatain Vidal starts an epic monologue and she just cuts him off. He imagines himself as some sort of heroic military leader, but he's nothing but a bully and a thug, and when he's defeated they rob him of the dignity he has robbed from so many others. He is living in his own farytale.

@@crocop6873Most people whom he murdered, didn't have the gracious opportunity. How did the people he murdered in the film respond, like "most people?" You didn't even watch the film, therefore, you have zero credibility. The look on his face with incredulity, when he looked at the man for a "real answer" was fucking funny. Shot in the face, his kid will never know he existed and you think he has some redeeming quality. He was a coward right to the end. The nuance is lost on you. Thankfully, people recognise this as the director intended. I understand it's difficult for some people, so that's ok, son.

I like how Vidal briefly hesitates after saying „Tell my son…“ for the first time, like he’s catching himself, making up his mind. Captain Vidal perfectly embodies the evil side, scares his human monstrosity much more than the rest of the beings that populate history, Vidal does not hesitate to use cruel procedures to carry out brutal torture to achieve his goal (such as the sequence in the disfiguring a hare hunter with a bottle). His arrogance and military pride end up shaping this character that it is not easy to get rid of after finishing watching the film, the film by Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro has managed to portray as few times that essence mixture of fear and harshness that the character instills.

My high school girlfriend brought me to see Pan's Labyrinth the afternoon before my Great-Aunt's funeral, whom I loved and cherished dearly. She convinced me to go by telling me it was a fantasy like Lord of the Rings. I had to sit in the movie theater for about 10 minutes after the end credits had rolled, still shivering and choking back tears. Now, many years later, and as a father, it only hits harder, especially with fascism making a comeback globally. The movie itself is essentially perfect; the lessons from history it tries to impart are not likely lost on anyone who makes it through the end. Ofelia reminds me of Anne Frank, for those of you who may have read her diary or any subsequent work based thereon: the kindness from innocence, even in the face of evil.

Now objectively, the way I structured it, there are three clues in the movie that tell you where I stand. *I stand in that it's real*. The most important clues are the flower at the end, and the fact that there's no way other than the chalk door to get from the attic to the Captain's office.”

Even though this movie does act like a dark original fairy where characters die like the mermaid died from getting turned into sea foam Pinocchio getting hanged by robbers even what if a different a director who’s a fan of del toro’s films want to make a different version of Pan’s labyrinth where Ofelia doesn’t die in the end and feature some characters that we’re never in his story but like to give Ofelia a love story where she interacts with a boy name Ben who became friends but he’s a servant to the captain and Ofelia and Ben went to the labyrinth with the baby but he defends Ofelia and after Vidal is defeated instead getting shot he falls into a pit of wolves and gets devoured and theirs a lot of elements and things that are different than which gives it a more happy ending charm like in any Disney movie but took some inspiration from the Thief and the Cobbler and Anastasia

Capitan Vidal was evil, evil man, but he was brave. Accepted his own death as bluntly as he dole it to others. Then he was just killed. Just like that.

was she really schiz? do you think thats why she wouldnt let family get hurt? i think so, but then again im just defensive and bias cos people claimed i was sick, which is worse than actually being sick...maybe the moral of the story isnt about creative positive stories for kids during war time, or blurred lines between schizophrenia and reality, maybe theres blurred lines between becoming a princess by sacrificing yourself for your brother.....or being the daughter of the king and queen who have imaginary cranes that get them into their high seats
