Panantukan Entries & Takedowns

This is a highlight of Panantukan (Filipino boxing) entries & takedowns practiced in our Kali / Silat striking class at the gym. Here we are practicing counters against the jab-cross by using single hand parries followed with a gunting (scissor counter). Dumog is then used for takedowns and joint lock submissions. Thanks to Luis and Lauren for help with demonstrating the techniques.

Yes, it's a really good floor for striking and grappling... however it gets a bit slippery from sweat and humidity. Anyhow, we're very fortunate to share such a nice and clean gym in Chiang Mai. Appreciate the feedback Sifu Jake, we still have a lot to work on!

I started studying JKD , Kali before internet so I saw nothing except what was in my classroom. Now that I can see you doing the same things as I was taught, it teaches me again with reassureance .I had some very experienced teachers.

The generation of instructors before me were an amazing group. They trained hard and were unfazed by criticism... Many of them were battle tested. I feel like my generation of instructors are playing catch up and can barely compare in fight ability and skill.

Mr. Nobody Absolutely! Panantukan combines elements from many different styles, namely Silat and Muay Thai. Of course, not as powerful as sport Muay Thai, but very effective for self-defense on the street. Thanks for commenting, best wishes and take care.

Good job. When you throw the uppercut for the gajah entry, rather than reaching for the head, chop into the inner elbow to bring them to you. It's yet another way of disorienting the opponent, and make the head grab much easier.
