I have the GH5 since more than 4 years and I would like to have some of the new features but I'm sure the GH6 will get all the new features too. So I think I can easily live with the old GH5 for a few month and will most likely get the GH6.

In terms of AF and noise performance, GH6 can't be better than it is now. It will have some more powerful options for video but nothing customers can feel "improved." I would go for GH5 II and use cheap Chinese manual lenses.

Remember, the GH5 was one of the first mirrorless cameras that had 4K60P. It wasn’t until 2020 when we saw the Canon R5 and A7SIII with the same feature. The IBIS from Panasonic is still unmatched.

Doing 4k60fps on micro 4/3 is far more energy and processor efficient than doing it on a full frame without adding heat sink and fans (S1H) and GH5 is not a small camera. also Olympus has industry leading IBIS. Panasonic just needs to get into APSC and ditch DFD focusing system

It felt like you started getting more and more into the camera as you kept going with all the upsides of the camera lol. Shows you why the GH5 is still an amazing camera to this day. And anyone who complains about it not having that much updates are just spoiled with specs and not so much about the capabilities of the camera as it is for creativity.

I am a flatbed driver, cross country, 18 wheelers. My entire day consisted of driving 700 miles and thinking: GH5 II or wait for GH6? My day was SO tough. Lol! I'm leaning towards the GH5 II. I currently own the GH5 and Leica 10-25mm f/1.7. Definitely getting the 25-50mm f/1.7. I also own the Panasonic HC-X2000 camcorder. I always wanted 4K60 10-bit 4:2:0 in a GH5, so I can use HLG at 4K60. However .. if Panasonic gives us an electronic ND or ND array in the GH6, it's over lol. I'd have to get the GH6 then.

Can you check if the GH5 Mark2 is able to output HDMI and USCB while showing the image on the LCD screen? For example with the RS2 and a Ninja V or the Raveneye. Now I'm using the GH5 and as soon as I plug in the HDMI and the usbc the LCD Screen turns black. Would love to hear from you

And you have to bring down the speed in the auto focus custom mode. (Depending on the lens you use) my settings for the auto focus using 12 60 lumix lens are: Speed setting -2/ Responsive setting +5.

The GH5 II is amazing! But I’m still very happy with the Duo GH4 and GH5 (with the Nokton 10.5mm and 25mm f0.95) for video. I’m looking forward for the GH6 and the OM Wow Camera.

I didn’t have any GH5 before, and no its not the GH6 BUT this i got new for $1699 with the Lumix 12-60 kitlens. I think i Will be super happy whith the GH5 II when i pick it up tomorrow, and more Bang for the buck for now then spending around $2500 body only on the GH6 when its released.

Hello, thanks to share your interesting video. Out of curiosity: beyond the extra things that the GH6 will do with the Menu configuration, but do you think that GH6 can give more high image quality than the GH5 MKII? What is your thought? Thanks

Hey! So yes, I do think the Gh6 will NEED better image quality to make sense. I'm thinking dual gain sensor at least for better low light performance and possibly a stacked cmos backside illuminated design for faster readouts and better quality

And L-Mount to MFT speed booster would be nice. With x0.52. That would give almost an full frame look

Unfortunately I don't think an L mount speed booster is possible since the lens is made for mirrorless. Most likely the flange distance is similar so the adapter would have to be too thin. Only dslr lenses work

Ah man, you blew through the auto focus topic fast...ha! I was sitting at the edge of my seat waiting to hear that they are redefining their AF system for us run and gunners. I love this camera, but lordy...you all know, I don't need to say it. Speaking of which, care to share your AF settings as if you were vlogging? I've tried so many different combinations over the years and still having issues.

It's an old hack that was implemented into their algorithm even for the Gh5. It's not valid anymore with current firmware updates.

Hello Dan. Out of curiosity, have you managed to compare the GH5s to the GH5 II ? I was wondering that as I couldn't find any serious videos (review/corarizon) or anywhere or even written reviews for that matter. Any chance do that in the future (if you haven't already) ? Hey! So no, unfortunately I never got around to using the GH5s so I don't have a comparison with those. But the GH6 uses a dual gain sensor like the GH5s but also has the extended frame rates and IBIS so that's the best of everything

Hi Dan, pls info. Talking AFC daytime/nighttime in how far is this camera a serious improvement in respect to hunting/pulsing/ going awol. No, I don’t expect FD performance. Thank you 😊

Night performance is definitely going to take a hit on the pulsing side. The camera needs good contrast so if you don't have a well lit scene, prepare for some pulsing. In a well lit scene, it's pretty controlled so it only happens occasionally

Hey! So there is definitely no visible difference except for some red accents but I can't verify that something has not slightly changed. I don't believe so though. Unfortunately low light capability is the same...no real difference. Possibly a 1/3 stop improvement but barely

I am now in limbo as I was thinking GH5, as advised by videographer friends earlier in the year, but then this has come along so the obvious choice is a Mk2 ......However should I now wait a little more for the GH6 ??? Hey! Sorry for the late reply. So, definitely look at the S5 actually: bhpho.to/3yn6qhw It's on a MASSIVE sale and is basically 95% of the GH5 but with a full frame sensor and slightly improved AF. I'd say only wait on the GH6 if you want higher resolution than 4k and faster frame rates than 4k60. We still don't know the details but I assume it will have both. They also might finally go with a phase detection AF system which would mean improved continuous autofocus

I keep telling everyone, the Panasonic S5 is great. You can't find a better camera for $2000. I don't personally care about it but if Panasonic starts using dual pixel Autofocus, they would be more competitive than they already are. That's really the only thing they are missing.

Yeah, the S5 is amazing. If Panasonic had developed dual pixel or some form of phase detection AF, they would have blown away the competition by now. The S5 and S1 are better cameras in every other way to the Sony A7III but AF is super important and it's tough to let that slide

LIDAR - what they really need to do to steal a march on their competitors is to figure out how to incorporate LIDAR into their focussing system to take it to beyond what phase detect can do. As a broad based technology company they absolutely have the ability to do that. They could trounce the competition if they worked that out...

I make travel videos for my KZbin channel, currently hv a G9 but it’s time to upgrade. The GH5m2 can be found now at a ver convenient price. I’m not a pro but getting better, should I go for the mark2 a next year get the GH6 when prices drop? Dan, your videos are gold mate, Cheers!

Hey! So the GH5II is an upgrade...but not a big quality upgrade. It's more of a feature upgrade with a few extra abilities. If you want a quality upgrade, maybe wait on the GH6 or who knows, Panasonic could release a cheaper version of that GH6 that will sit somewhere in between those cameras but still give you a quality upgrade. Or you could look at cameras like the Sony FX30 or Canon R7 which would give you a big quality upgrade

I believe the 4K/120 is only going to be thru VFR mode. A couple channels have stated this. I have a GH5 II and it’s amazing. Used it for a full day vlog (using AF-C face tracking) and it performed amazingly. Vlog is up on my channel if you’re interested in seeing how it performed. Switching to this for a vlogging/KZbin camera coming from a Sony A6400.

I'd say if you shoot hybrid...photo and video, hands down get the S5. It's sooo much better than the GH5II for photos. For video, there are advantages and disadvantages to each but for what I do, larger sensors are usually better but if you do anamorphic or want to adapt lenses, the GH5II has some advantages

@@learningcameras basically it’d by my main video camera/travel camera. I have an A7RIV so for pro photos so I’m set on that front. The only lenses I adapt are vintage Nikon lenses to get the unique old style feel and because of how cheap they are. I have not ever used anamorphic because of the high price of lenses

Hey! I would start out with a decent zoom lens like this bhpho.to/3dIXZ82 (which is also on sale!) and then look at adding a prime lens in the future to give you something wider aperture. Start with the zoom though and see if you tend to like to shoot more zoomed in or wider...that will help you figure out what prime lens to add later

Great idea! I used to have the X-T4 but not anymore. For me is was a great all around camera but the video features while they looked good on a spec sheet suffered in reality. The image was amazing but shooting with it for video was not a pleasant experience. But for photos, it's definitely better in a few ways plus the AF and high ISO was noticeably better for both photo and video.

Well the Pana has the next best image stabilisation. Oly has the best. Comparing the videos from Pana and Oly, The videos from Pana are more wobbly at the corners of The film. The autofocus on the Oly is also superior to the Pana. Regarding video features, The Pana is superior to the Oly, but it is lackning a Great AF. Proberably things Will change with the new Oly "wow" Camera and the gh6. Both Will proberably have the new Sony stacked micro four thirds sensor. It is exiting to see what 2 companies Will deliver. /Niklas

Let's just be honest, Panasonic engineers aren't working on innovation, they are working to us the same firmware updated camera back at the $2K price range. First the BGH1, now the GH52. It could be argued like Taco Bell, using the same ingredients to make 10 dishes, that Panasonic has done the same by portioning elements of this in other cameras. I have to ask, how can you not be harsher on this camera? Is this a sponsored vid? No one is talking about what an epic disappointment and how condescending this camera offering is. Sony is literally lapping Panasonic now, it's not even close. If the GH6 is the same price as the A7S3, that will be hilarious.

So absolutely fair points and no this is definitely not sponsored lol. I was a bit easier on it because they also announced a Gh6 coming this year. So this is just them keeping the gh5 in the line. Thus I see it less like a new camera which this is definitely a lackluster for a new camera and more of a small update like an iPhone 12s vs a 12. The Gh6 will be the test of whether Panasonic can compete

I am a former Panasonic ultra fan and I have been disappointed to see them stagnant for so long, primarily with autofocus. It's like Ahab (Panasonic) and the Whale (Contrast detect) and in the end this pursuit is bringing down the ship. Especially if the GH6 is in the same price range as the A7S3. There is no comparison, it's Sony.

If the GH6 has the same shite AF system, I'm going to Sony. In 2021 there is no reason, for poor AF. It's a shame as I love the colours that come out of the lumix camera's. My only problem is the AF.

I just wish Panasonic would have never came up with this small Sensors size of MFT. APS-C size is way better when it comes to noise performance and because of the aspekt ratio of MFT its even smaller for video size Formats. Yeah there is an Adapter but a langer sensor means more light, bigger pixels, better color, better low light Performance and so on.

The problem is lens mount...no one really makes a versatile APSC lens mount except Fuji. Most other lens mounts are full frame so even if they put an APSC sensor in there, they would be wasting the space on the mount

The over-rated XT4 has slower AF and also loses focus just when one needs it. All hybrid cameras seem to have limitations. If one wants to shoot video, just buy a video camera! I certainly hope GH6 has a new AF system though. Or drop 6.5k on the Sony! NOT!

Yeah, the XT4 is quite crap with AF in video. No lock on/tracking so you need to continually move the box if you aren’t shooting faces/eyes
