Panasonic GH5 in 2022 // STILL one of the BEST cameras for YOUTUBE

Built a six figure business on the GH5. Till this day, the Sony A7SIII, Canon R5/R6, and all other mirrorless cameras other than Panasonic do not have Shutter angle, which is a software fix. There is no excuse for that in 2022. I have an FX6 on order, but I’m looking forward to what Panasonic releases this year.

I"m on the G9 and love it and i'm thinking of grabbing a gh5 for a second cam. I feel like those two cameras really fill each others gaps. I'm shocked at how much the auto focus has improved on the g9. But the gh5 features that the g9 don't have are super appealing.

I had the GH5 for years and even shot a feature film with it. But, you would have to use the smartphone app to focus on yourself if you weren't close enough to touch the monitor screen if you were filming yourself. Everything else about the GH5 made it more than a B-roll camera. Calling it a B-roll camera tells me you never pushed it to its full capabilities. Remember, you can shoot 10-bit 422 4K DCI with the GH5. It's more than a KZbin camera.

I love my GH5, if they had of put phase detect AF in it, I would never git rid of it, like you said, the IBIS and 120FPS are magic and I'm yet to see another camera do this as easily or as nicely for the price

Great video! It's 2024, and I'm hunting for a second camera. I've been happy with my GX8 + MFT in general. Of course, I want the G9ii (duh) but cannot afford it now. I want to do lots of Vlog work this year, and I need better stab. I'm actually OK with shooting 1080p, so I know I can get some great slo-mo in HD. Love my GH5, and paired with an Atomos Ninja V gives me that 4K 10-bit 422 60P without having to upgrade my camera. Will re-evaluate when the GH6 is released. Loving the M4/3 format along with speed booster adapters for Canon and other lens formats.

I ordered the GH5 M2 plus the G100 a few days ago. They will add versatility to my G9, all sharing the same lenses. The G9 is superb but I wanted the anamorphic support and C4K, shutter angle etc. The G100 is for when going small and inconspicuous is needed. GH6 is just too expensive for now, especially when buying two cameras.

It's bananas how good this camera still is in 2022. A lot of brand new cams STILL don't sport some of its features. And I shoot solely with manual focus and I light everything up with LEDs, fresnels, etc., so the low light performance isn't an issue at all for me. And that IBIS!!!! I legit don't even NEED to use a gimbal with this thing. Thanks for this reminder video LOLZ“

Best explanatory vid ever, lately I tried open gate shooting because of the reframe and post prod digital zoom effects but I think the 420 10 bit image is somewhat worse than All-i or Long GOP C4K or UHD my image has a less details with it. I have one question which is how to maximise resolution of the image with GH5? Shooting all i with a very sharp lens probably ? ,but did you notice any image quality improvement with ninja V and prores HQ? I need a global shoot of an orchestra on stage shooting with a 25mm lens ...and was thinking maybe go the BMPCC6k road but maybe the GH5 with sigma 18-35 and Ninja V could do the job...I am lacking somehow details right now... Maybe you have a suggestions for high res detailed shot on Static Tripod. Bonne année Fil PS...did you see the Pana online conference kind of disappointing with the GH6...

I have had the gh5 for about 5 years as well but been thinking about getting into the Sony full frame systems soon, for various reasons but I keep coming back to "do I really need it or just want it?" as the GH5 still does pretty much everything I need it to do. Only things I could use would be better auto focus and low light as I do a bit of run and gun, events and stuff like that. But ya, GH5 still good

you can use the app to set the lock. needs to be on manual focus and set in menu and might need to be a native lens actually not sure about the lens but probs works best with native

What picture style and settings you use for low light? From my experience to control noise and over exposed practical lights is using HLG. Natural and standard are to Sensitive on the practical lights at night.

I have a ton of different cams from different manufacturers but I still love my GH5 and GH4. It's kind of funny watching all of latest cams and its fanboys screeching about new features that the GH5 has had forever. Autofocus is nice but no one bought the GH5 for autofocus. We want to control whats in focus.If I need autofocus I have my Canon and Sony cams for that. My GH5 is for cinematic films.

I’ve tried both cameras. S5 is basically a GH5 with slightly different features. Besides the sensor size, the S5 has dual native iso, better AF, & can record 6k prores or braw externally. These features are amazing, but I don’t like the micro hdmi, 4k60 crop, & recording limits. There is also no DCI 4k or anamorphic desqeeze in the S5. I’d say get the S5 if you NEED low light or if you’re more of a hybrid shooter & do photography around half the time. Keep in mind the L Mount lens lineup is a bit limited, & what’s out there now is pretty expensive & heavy. The BMPCC is just different in every way lol. In terms of image quality, the BMPCCs are probably the best of most cameras under $5000. The biggest difference you’d notice w/ owning a BMPCC is that they often need to b me rigged out. You’d likely need a power solution (because battery life sucks), storage solution (because the files are huge), monitor (because the screen, albeit large & intuitive, isn’t bright & doesn’t move), & gimbal/stabilizer (because there’s no IBIS). BMD cameras are amazing value for the features & image quality (shutter angle, false color, xlr audio, internal raw, etc), but to fully maximize them, it kind of requires using Resolve & learning to grade BRAW. They shoot prores (non raw), but most will say their BRAW is far superior to their prores. Consider if you typically have a GH5 & always rig it out; then maybe the BMPCC is for you, but if you like to just grab your GH5 & be minimal, then the BMPCC isn’t for you. Ultimately, all 3 are great cameras. I personally don’t think the BMPCC & S5 are big enough upgrades to warrant the jump from the GH5 because there’s a lot of trade offs. Unless you want more the image quality & workhorse “rig-ability” of a cinema camera or you NEED to go full frame because you’re in a lot of low light situations or do a lot of photography, I’d stick w/ a GH5, which is probably the most versatile for most solutions.

@@dominicgray2187 Hi could go low light with GH5s...if you have already MFT lenses...BMPCC4k is as well not bad for low light if you know how to use Neat or resolve NR.Braw is supposed to be cleaned because like all raw camera it does not have sharpening backed in like Panasonic GH S line or Sony. It is mostly a Cinema Cam...not a Hybrid one....hope it helps as well and Bmpcc4k has a lot of problems and need to have a rig a DC solution. GH5s less a problem and has a autofocus mostly fixed after last update.

@@filipmichalsaffray441 I actually have GH5s & I’m borrowing a friends BMPCC4k right now. I rented the S5 in the past. GH5S is better than GH5 in low light, but it’s still no S5. I wouldn’t push the GH5S beyond 3200 or 6400 iso. S5 can go much higher. BMPCC is a great camera, but yeah, it really needs to be rigged. You’d quickly find that the battery life & storage solutions are frustrating. Then there’s the whole journey of learning BRAW & Resolve. Unless you have plans to get an Ursa in the future, I wouldn’t go BMD. I will say S5 & GH5 are very close. If you have a GH5, you may as well keep it. Idk if the S5 has enough upgrades to warrant a new, more expensive cam & system. GH5S is dope, but I’d go S5 over that if you’re looking to replace your GH5. If you’re looking for another cam to add to your GH5, then get the GH5S or GH5ii
