Got the GH5 start of the year. Was reduced. The main bored went so had to get it replaced. Now its like brand new. The GH5 is a beast of a camera. Every GH5 user video will say about its poor AF and Ll. I have a few Lumix lens the 22m 1.7 and 25 1.7. Those lens are meant for the Lumix so when attached the AF is very good. For me the GH5 is not a vlogging camera. Its for someone who is always wanting to be behind the camera. Since using it my videos have improved and each time I feel I still haven't used all of what the GH5 has to offer. I would never compere it to the Sony cameras as those camera are full frame. The AF and Low light on those cameras will be better due to the bigger sensor. The camera is only as good as its user.

The autofocus thing however depends on what you are doing . I do boudoir videos. This means filming and folowing models. They dont move very fast and af works great with this task. You dont see pulsing. In other occasions the pulsing is distracting. The af als is more than fast enough in my opininion but as you said its for guys who knowwhat and when they are doing something. I use the camera for photos and videos. For a while i thought i could use a better camera for stills but as my grading skills improved i no longer feel this way. (5:30) I wholeheartedly agree. However, for a negligible bit of coin, the GH5II is basically superior. Takes the S5 BLK-22 battery. USB-C power delivery. The IBIS is 6.5 stops vs 5 of the original. -18dB Sound record level adjustment. Simultaneously record internal while external out to HDMI. Sharper IQ, Higher DR, and V-log L installed. Better low light, and better AF (I don’t get pulsing). 4K 60p 10bit. Plus an extra C4 custom setting on the dial, and sharper LCD screen for viewing in harsh day light… Also, the original GH5 has hit a ceiling for firmware updates, which we are not likely so see any more. The GH5II having a newer Venus Engine, seems to imply that they will have future updates able to improve the mark II even further. I truly struggle to think why I NEED the GH6, though want is another story… …

@@bitzzzbytemedia That is why I got the GH5II last holiday season discounted, knowing the GH6 with impressive spec’s was imminent. I already had the GH5/GH4/GX8. Also for production value, in the market for one or two more cameras. The GH5II was too obvious a choice. Since Panasonic told us it would be a $2500 camera, but pleasantly surprised it was not. The GH6 became very tempting. I wrestled with the idea all last month to take advantage of the promotional free CF card. Ultimately I did not. The GH6 would dramatically affect workflow. CF cards are expensive, storage capacity would increase. Power would drain batteries like a lazy vampire. No longer would you get nearly three hours, but forty five minutes instead. Plus there is no option for battery grip. The expectation is to use a power bank or V-Tap, both which would compromise my current workflow either ergonomically or financially. Then there is the issue of the image quality and capabilities out performing the GH5 and GH5II, that would produce extra work in trying to match in post… …

@@Superz3ro You are absolutely correct, good points there. Even with my GH5 it's hard for me to match ALL-I clips with ProRess from the Ninja V. I'm already setting a good workflow with my tools and don't want to recreate all over again. I already have a vastly collection of lenses. 12-60/3.5, 12-35/2.8, 8-18/2.8, 35-100/2.8 25/1.7, 14-42/3.5 and 45-150/3.5 I'm just learning for now and teaching my kids at the same time. @@pilsplease7561 No it doesn't. Good compared to mobile phones or film from 50 years ago maybe. If you want to freeze action in low light, you're getting a 1/1000 second exposure with a full frame where you'd get a 1/100 time with m43 with equivalent noise. Full frame allows you to use f4 lenses at night, basically. This isn't really about the crop format, but pixel size. If you get something like blackmagic or Gh5s you get full frame like low light characteristics. Since these things exist, i can't really think of regulsr m43 cameras as "good" in low light. I totally agree. I've been using the Gh5 since it first arrived. Auto focus and low light are not great but the overall value of the camera is good. With the arrival of the Gh6, I'm not upgrading (have a Gh4 also). The new features of the Gh6 are not worth the upgrade for me, especially since there's no improvement on the low light or autofocus. The Gh6's "coolest" feature is 4k 120 but for the amount I would use it... not worth the price. I also have 10 batteries for my Gh4 & Gh5, plus SD cards. All of this to replace on the Gh6 would make an upgrade super expensive. The Gh5 is a great camera and I think if anyone was getting started, now is a great time to look for a used Gh5 while so many people are upgrading. The Gh5 will be a great camera for a few more years.

Have you not watched the lowlight comparisons? It's dramatically better in low light photos and video. The gh6 at iso 12800 looks better than the gh5 at iso 3200. What people don't get is that the sensor is a dual native iso sensor. The boost made requires two sets of circuitry to work. It's just a dual iso sensor that's designed to allow both circuits to run simultaneously. The camera is far better in lowlight than the gh5 was. It's a HUGE difference.

When I put them through FCP stabalisation tripod mode - there is no movement at all, I watched the corners of the image - not even a pixel of movement. I shoot a lot of social media content in bars restaurants and event spaces - I'm now really thinking will this stabalisation help me esthetically. The lowlight actually looks useable on the GH6 - especially if I shoot at F1.7 (3.4 FF). Also I watched a Tyler Stalman review he mentioned shooting 4:3 open gate and putting a 16:9 vertical frame marker on it - super useful. Do you think the autofocus is as bad as every other reviewer is saying? I was considering the Sony zve10 but where I live it's $1000 which I don't know if it's worth that much compared to the gh5. I'm just getting into videography
@BogeeDee Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Which canera did you bought? I have gh5ii and zve10. Autofocus of zve10 is amazing. But gh5ii is pro camera for pro user, and autofocus is not too bad, it's better than gh5. I using it everyday and I like it.

Manual focus really comes down to the lens you are using.. When using the electric fly by wire focus system that a lot of lenses uses it works exponentially, and that is just terrible to work with. Its ok when checking something that is standing still, but for tracking focus on a moving subject or while filming its just awful. It makes manual focus nearly impossible. So then you either need to get lenses that have mechanical focus or get a speedbooster and use other lenses to focus manually in the propper mechanical way. Why they hell there is no setting to make it work in a normal liniar mode is crazy. It is one of my biggest complains about the GH5. So for that i would like to upgrade to the GH6 as it has liniar focus mode.

I am a Panasonic fanboy gone Sony fanboy, and I will happily admit - Sony IBIS SUCKS compared to GH5 IBIS. It's literally the only thing I consistently miss when using my Sony cams compared to the GH5 (well, and smaller lenses). I love the low light, autofocus (yes, I've gone to the dark side, especially for events), but I do miss the GH5 from time to time. I'd just love to go handheld sometimes with just the camera and the 35-100 or 12-35 on there and know I'll get stable shots instead of having to should rig up my FX3.

Idk why you think the gh6 doesn't have better low light capabilities. The tests out show that it is a straight 2 stops better than the gh5 in photo and video lowlight. The gh6 looks as good at iso 12800 as the gh5 at 3200 or even 1600. check micro four nerds video comparison they just put out.
@TSCameraGear2 жыл бұрын
I dont think I ever said GH6 doesn't have better low light capabilities, I just don't think the difference is that big. because in general, M43 sensors have worse low light performance than for example full frame sensors. I mean, even if dual native iso sensor, there still only so much light a m43 sensor can take in. you know?

To bad everyone is only complaining about the one downside is has. Just one. Other cameras have several. And the AF is not unusable. But again you need to know how to utilize it. Something about skill I hear you say?
@TSCameraGear2 жыл бұрын
its true, its a skill thing. even the poor autofocus. As I tried to explain in the video, people are spoiled with the tech improvements, People become to lazy to learn how to master a camera. Again, I use the manual focus on the GH5 (and the tap to focus), and it works fine for me.

I don't understand. You say GH5 is the best camera but you are using Sony a7c camera to film your youtube videos?! Why? Is it really the best camera if you are not using it for your featured youtube videos?! I still have my GH4 camera and using mostly for my youtube videos. I have Sony fs700r, fuji xt3, sony a7r3 and Sigma FP, yet, I use GH4 as my main KZbin video camera. I use Panasonic Android app to help me with my 'touch-to-focus' using my smartphone. It is better than any autofocus system.
@TSCameraGear2 жыл бұрын
I never say GH5 is the best camera. :) No such thing exists. I use A7C and GH5 for different shots. A7C is better at autofocus, so I use that for the "talking head shots". but for slow-motion b-roll, its GH5. I agree the touch to focus app is awesome, not sure if I would compare it to autofocus. Anyway, it is usable for talking head shots. But I use Sony, because I like the full frame look and the extremely reliable autofocus.

Great review! Thank you! The only reason why I couldn't make my decision toward GH5 ii only because auto-focus is terrible but now I'm thinking just to learn and get used to manual! Could you tell me if I want mostly to shoot kids, they run to fast, they jumping and etc. Will I have the opportunity to make as quick as possible manual focus to switch between them and make a good videos? Thank you in advance for your response))))
@kfos72062 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'll answer that for the owner of this channel. I own a GH4, GH5 and GH5ii and I use them professionally and they're wonderful cameras as described in the video. But if you want to primarily film kids running and jumping around the Panasonics are not for you. You'll need a reliable autofocus that won't drive you crazy. So, if I would have to shoot moving things reliably, i.e. race cars, sports, wildlife, kids and not pay more than € 2.500 for the body, I would probably choose the Canon R6. Canon has just installed the second generation autofocus system for the R-models and it is just as good as Sony's. As much as I love the GH series, you have to be comfortable and willing to use manual focus.

@@kfos7206 Thank you very much! Honestly I'm already tired of thinking what to choose (because so many great reviews on a GH5 ii and I wanted to try it out but autofocus is very bad and I was very doubted) but you helped me with my choice))) Right now I shoot on Canon 5 d mark iii and I love it for photography. I have a lenses like ef 70-200 mm 1:2.8 L is ii USM; 85 mm 1:1.8; 50mm 1:1.8 and 24-70 1:4, and my favorite is 70-200, ye, it's heavy but the quality is amazing and I don't need to run after children, I just sit and move my lens only))) I guess for the video making this is gonna be to bulky and I think I need something very good, but I don't know which should I buy for my purposes. I know that for R6 I need adapter for its lenses. Could you recommend me good lens which gonna cover mostly of my tasks?) I think to make a video of playing kids in the pool, on the beach, and also places where it's gonna be) and travelling.

@@lovableangelina So I'm not an expert on Canon's ecosystem, but a good friend of mine recently bought an R5 and added the RF 24-105 4-7.1 to that. The lense is not a lowlight wizard, but as far as I know she's happy with it. If I remember correctly, it's about €500. There's also an RF 14-35 1:4, but it's approximately € 1.500 and you're not covered on the far end.

you don't get panasonic cameras if you plan to use auto focus its that simple. for fast moving objects, get a sony or canon. but you feel comfortable with manual focus. The gh series is fun to use, as they are packed with features.
