I haven't tried the GH6 so I don't know what I'm talking about. But I think that the GH6 is a seriously cool successor to the mighty GH5. It's not geared towards KZbinrs at all and I really think it has it's place for documentary, commercial and studio work! In a way I think that this camera completely destroys something like the BMPCC6K because of that IBIS. I just bought the S5 and with my Sigma 24-70 and Atomos Ninja V I'm not really feeling like I'm missing anything. But the fact that lenses are so much cheaper for MFT makes the GH6 a very cool option for filmmakers who's already invested in and loves the MFT-system. I hope that I can test one out but for now I'm happy with my S5 and GH5 combo! Thanks for another great video!
@end272 жыл бұрын
i dont think filmmakers are invested in. they all use manual focus, they dont use native lenses, they use 3rd party fast primes with adapters, speedboosters.. if and when m43 dies they will only lose on their cam body and adapter. they will keep lenses and simply buy new adapter for new camera.. big price are gonna pay amateurs like me, who got gh5 impressed by video recording specs but use camera for fun stuff and ofc we use autofocus and because of that we have to use native lenses.. m43 lenses are gonna drop in price so hard as with time when fullframe gets better and cheaper

When the S-series 1st came out a lot of the glass was expensive. There are plenty of inexpensive options now, especially if you adapt EF lenses
@Naumachia2 жыл бұрын
@@end27 Filmmakers aren't invested in mft? Of course they are! You need to remember that there are many different types of filmmakers. MFT is and has been a very big thing among people who need their equipment to be smaller than full frame glass. Look at lenses like the 35-100 from Panasonic! A perfect example of a lens which doesn't need to be super big but still have the reach for someone who's depending on traveling a lot and implement the run and gun or documentary style. I really don't think that MFT is going to die. It still has a very viable place for serious filmmakers and the GH5 is still going to be strong on the market now that it's going to be even cheaper after the release of GH6. It feels like the "MFT is dead" comes from KZbinrs wanting to implement chock value to their videos. It's still immensely popular in Japan for instance! If i remember correctly, OM-Systems reported having the largest market share among any lens mount in Japan in 2021. So saying MFT is dead is like saying that Full Frame is dead just because the majority of filmmaking takes place on super 35-sensors.
@Naumachia2 жыл бұрын
@@KBmediaOnline It's a bit better now, yes. But MFT is still cheaper and smaller. There's always going to be room for something that has a smaller form factor and costs less! One thing that's easier to achieve on FF is better dynamic range which was a bummer with the GH6. The S5 still has better dynamic range than the GH6. Still, I bet that most of us would fail in a side by side comparison in a MFT vs FF situation. At the end of the day the most important thing is what you film, not with what you film.

I chose the S5 over the gh5 ii because the price for the body + lens was a little better and I said why not get the full frame look especially for a little less money. Currently the S5 is priced at 1500 usd with a free 85mm lens included. Gh6 is 1700 body only. The main reasons for the gh6 are if you want 4k 120 or you really want cf express cards and prores codecs. Everything in the gh6 and then some will probably be in the successor to the S1H soon. I've never had a problem with the autofocus on my S5. I just use it for handheld vlogging or locked off on a tripod for video. For stills the subject detection works great. It will draw a box around the entire cat but when I check the files on the computer the cats face and eyes are always in focus so it must be detecting the face and eyes even if it is just drawing the box around the whole animal. Bottom line the af works great for everything I do. I am tempted to buy another S5 especially to get the free lens. I would also grab a gh6 if I found a really good discount offer

To be fair, I'm kind of surprised for the hate on m43. Maybe I just haven't gotten into full frame enough? Mmm, I disagree on the points of prores (coming from ursa, the prores 422 was so insanely gorgeous). I also don’t care about the automatic focus as I’ve manual focused my whole life. The biggest deal breaker is the dynamic range and low light, which just comes with a m43. I want an a7siii but I jus can’t justify it as shooting has taken a back seat for editing, but im intrigued about the s5 for sure… so cheap. How bad is the moire on that? Seems like that could be a deal breaker. But the value is insane. I’d consider the gh6 if it had amazing dynamic range

My biggest let down with this camera is the hdmi delay. I've seen that they didn't fix the lag and it was my biggest issue with the gh5. I need bigger screens for good focus and using a gh5 with a monitor makes you feel drunk. Like 250-280ms delay. When the subject left focus range or even the frame, it takes a third of a second for you to realize while looking on a monitor. And good focus with a moving subject (like a high energy music video) was extremely hard on the tiny screen while recording. Otherwise, it's fantastic from what it seems.

See here is the thing, I believe we are both in the same boat. I have a GH5 & two lenses (12-35mm f2.8 Lumix & Olympics 7-17 f2.8 PRO), love the 4/3 system. The low light and AF is weak with the GH5. Not interested in speed booster, like why get extra stuff!? I have two Sonys cameras now (A1 & A7C). Yes, Yes, Yes waited for the GH6, wanted them to improve the AF so bad and improve the light (if they could). That is it, that is all I wanted from the GH6. Sadly, very very AF a bit better but Sony, Canon, Nikon AF just way better. So why why why won't Panasonic get their AF if anything on the same level as those other companies? ...too hard, too expensive 🤷🏽. I so want to use my GH again but if the GH6 is just not there it might be time to sell off my GH5. I personally don’t care so much about AF but I understand why people need/want phase detect AF. It would’ve definitely been cool to have but is not a deal breaker for me because I like manual. The GH cameras with the relatively tiny optically stabilized 12-35/2.8 or 35-100/2.8 are such a joy to carry and shoot handheld for documentary or travel. If I need something faster I have the 10-25/1.7 and other fast primes. My only regret is that this decision by Panasonic to stick with DFD will ultimately threaten the survival of m43

They need to listen to Canon, Sony or other brand user's need. Listen to real world users. Do surveys. My fellow and I are both Sony users. I had GH2, GH3 and GH5. We were talking about what m43 camera Panasonic come out that will make us both want to buy one. The answer we come out is high speed camera. If GH6 can do 4k 240p and FHD 480p, we are very likely to buy one for slow motion purpose. Listen there is no reason for a sony a7sIII or a7Iv user to jump ship to m43 just because you bump up the resolution and frame rate. Panasonic listen to our feedback. Canon and sony users won't sell their system and buy this GH6. You can only attracting existing m43 users and potential new filmmaker. And I can still see this group people get less and less as time goes. The only way you can gain is by attracting other brand users that still want to buy this camera for some reason. The only reason my friend and I can think of is high speed. m43 can not exceed full frame in high iso and dynamic range, and you can not even have similar auto focus. Your m43 advantage is small sensor so faster process speed. So focus on your strength . If a7sIII can do 4k 120p and fhd 240p 2 years ago. You should be able to do 4k 240p and fhd 480p at 2022. It is reasonable. Your goal is not to have other brand user jump ship but rather willing to buy your camera as a b cam or c cam. I think Panasonic totally missed the opportunity.

Slow motion's quality (at 120 and 240fps) is important for me too, and without any crop so I can shoot ultrawide if needed. I just hoped for a killer AF on this at 4k120fps 😢 Anyway I bought an S5 last year for the commercial work that needs better IQ, better low light, and doesn't need slo-mo or long focal lenghts.
