Panasonic GH7 - Disappointment...

*FOR PEOPLE WHO SAY I CAN'T JUDGE A CAMERA WITHOUT TESTING IT* I don't get it... I don't say I have tested the camera, its not a review, nothing in the title says it is. People say I can't judge a camera without testing it. Sure I can, I just did. Based on facts and other peoples reviews, I can judge it. Every consumer judge products before buying or choosing not to buy it. I don't think the camera has enough to impress me or consider buying it. I'm sorry if that disapoints people. Its just my reaction and my thoughts that Im sharing on my own channel. I'm sorry some people don't like it.

This is not a review - it's at best an opinion. You wasted your viewers time until you said the magic words: "I haven't tested it".

If you haven't tested it...then your words have no meaning. In fact its autofocus is as good or better than Sony's. Sony hasn't had that advantage for a while now. Panasonic's PDAF that debuted with the S5ii is practically flawless. And no features? What are you talking about? Its literally the MOST full featured video camera outside of massive professional cameras...ever made to this point. It has everything in the g9ii...and then a whole lot more and fixed every single issue the GH6 had. Richard Wong, Gordon Lang, and the PetaPixel guys Jordan and Chris all gave extensive in depth reviews of the camera and its features. Aside from only a few tiny personal preference niggles they all pointed out what a massive heavyweight professional camera it is. No one is EVER going to build a camera with 4k240 or 1080p480 outside of dedicated slomo cameras. There is a reason it hasn't been put it...its insanely niche and it impractical to have in a normal camera. Seriously dude, you have no credibility on this one if you haven't even touched or used it. How can it be a disappointment if you have never even used it? SMH.

​@@markshirley01a mirrorless camera as a smaller sensor so will never be as good In Af or low light then a full frame camera. The sensor size means a FF will have better AF and Low light. You're comparing a smaller sensor to a bigger one. No logic in that

@@markshirley01 yeah as the Sony is full fram so it will have better AF as the GH7 is mirrorless so smaller sensor. Most who compare the Sony to the S5ii say their very close. If not the same. I disagree about the lack of features, I can't think of a more feature packed camera, I also disagree about the need for 240fps 4k video, I rarely even see 4K 120 used that much. But some interesting observations, nice video.

Actually GH7 is the best m43 video camera to date. So not sure what does it mean it lacks features? It records 5.7k ProRes RAW internally, 32bit float with XLR module, etc ...

@@TSCameraGear Can you be more specific? Do you want a ladyboy included with the camera or what exactly? Frame rates you mentioned in the video are not really possible with this kind of sensors. If you want real slo-mo buy slo-mo camera (reasonable ones start at 10k USD).

@@TSCameraGear For me GH7 is impressive, but I wouldn't buy it because I'm knee deep in the e-mount eco system. I even thought about it, since I still have 3 m43 lenses, but I prefer FX6 or FX6 mk2. The first one is just 3 times more expensive than GH7 but it suits my needs better. Of course can think about GH7, when they announce ladyboy bundle ;). I'm also waiting for GM6/7. That would be really good camera if they can put GH7 PDAF there and IBIS and stay with GM5 size.

I have a question. What if, while recording video in Pro Res format, the battery runs out of charge and the camera turns off. what happens to the recording file? Will it be broken or will everything be fine with it?

I think the main problem with the GH7 is that it came out about two-and-a-half years too late. It's a good camera for those who were holding off on the GH6 becausethey wanted to get PDAF. But as you said, really nothing earth-shaking in the GH7, and when you throw the G9 II and the S5 IIX in to the mix (at lower prices), then the GH7 is a tough sell, even to Panasnoic FanBoy's like myself. On the other hand, if you were holding off on getting a G9 II but really want the fan to help reduce the chance of overheating, and if you really want timecode, and 32-bit float audio, and the option to add Arri Log-C, then it certainly is a worthwhile camera.

My disappointment as a GH6 owner that started with the GH5 (not owning the GH7) is that they 1. refuse to add Focus stacking to the GH6 and GH7 that was available in the GH5 and 2. that the livestream capabilities are limited to 1080p. The GH5mk2 had this already and they didn't bother to push this feature much further? As you can see, yes as a GH6 owner I still feel betrayed by Panasonic for releasing the GH7 this fast while reviewers praising 32 bit float audio which is only available if you add 500$ to your purchase in the first place. They could have done so much more but still refused to do it. Almost as if they forgot that castrating your camera is actually bad. They didn't even add higher bitrate options for 5.8k open gate mode even though it surely could handle it.

Working AF, Prores raw, 32bit audio, open gate and best IBIS, is a combination, that will bring Panasonic the same success the GH5 has done, I think.

As a Panasonic Fan Boy, I hope you are right. But so many other cameras are out that have 10-bit and either 4K 60p or even 4K 120p. No, those other cameras don't have ALL the features (or don't have as good a features like the outstanding IBIS, the tilty+flip out screen, the timecode, the possible 32-bit float audio, eht Arri Log C, etc.,) but they are still good cameras that are capable in many situations. As @GrenlandUnderVann wrote, it is probably a camera for current MFT users (although many of them already bought the pretty awesome G9 II, I imagine).

As an ex Nikon and now Sony user, the only idea that would interest me from Panasonic is a very small M43 camera that has excellent stabilisation. I don't care about the high resolutions I never use them, so good HD is fine for me. So £700 max and a 20-40 F4 (F2) full frame equivalent lens sold with it (10-20mm). Just so I don't have to carry a gimbal.

Did you say magapickles? What about open gate? That's a huge feature for content creators. The S5ii also does it. Really, the GH7 is only lacking internal ND filters. BTW, it does ok in low-light unlike the GH6. The Sony A7Siii actually has some significant noise at ISO 10000.

I’m inclined to agree with you I mean at this point I’ve gotten quite used to the crappy video audio focus so I usually to just get initial focus and then put it in Manuel and keep it that way and the BSI sensor may be of interest if there is a improvement, Light But nothing was saying at this point that more than just kind of a luxury purchase already having the G92 and the G H6

the only real thing that I could think to improve the gh7 would be global shutter, butr that is very unlikely to happen any time soon. autofocus looks faster than sony btw

After watching several videos with people testing out the Ari c log against an actual Ari, i was super impressed... I then saw the gh7 at the recent expo here in person doing similar tests in real time, and i was shocked, a pretty substantial selling feature... And then i see how great the stabilization is, with the open gate 6k, and legit good AF, and i honestly considered it as a travel camera... BUT then i realized again that its a m4/3 and that's a deal breaker for me. If they made a crop sensor version of the gh7, that would be really interesting... What!? You're going to sell your zve1 and a7c!?

Honestly I am a bit disappointed by your video. Would have appreciated if you would come to your points lot quicker. Actually there is no real argument beside your feelings, as on paper they fixed the issues from the previous model, added a lot of requested features and even kept the body the same so that you don't need to switch your riggin. Also you didn't mention what your use for your cameras is, this would help us a lot understanding your feelings.
