Can you tell a little, how it's work? Are you happy with camera? I have Sony cx 405. It's a big mistake made by Sony. So I looking for something normal.

Excellent review. Thank you for taking the time to put together such a detail and comprehensive review. I was on the fence but now I will be buying this camera. I too use a DSLR and Panasonic ux90. This will make for a great b roll camera. Bravo!

Thanks for the excellent review. I noticed that when you were filming using HDR, that dark areas were much more grainy than when using night mode. I especially noticed the grain in HDR mode when you were filmed your black camera set up on the tripod - the black areas had noticeable grain whereas the same shot in night mode the grain wasn't visible.

Just bought this camera and this review was VERY helpful. It's now become my primary filming camera, with some clever shooting and a little magic in post it's really really shining. Currently shooting a series with two of these utilizing the twin/dual mode and getting really impressive results. Worth every cent. Even did a really good hitchcock/dolly effect with the camera zooming mounted on a makeshift dolly moving away. The stabilization shined in the final result.. Loved doing it old school without post effects. Thanks again.

Sounds great! The dual mode is something I've not really messed around with and only recently having tried out the remote zoom and control functions via the app. It would be good to see your results on KZbin! Thanks for the comment and I'm glad the review was some use.

I have this lovely camera. I would recommend boosting colour to +3 as the default colours are a bit too muted and not what it looked like in real life. It can only be done in the manual mode but the camera will act as set in the auto mode if you don't touch other settings. I personally like to set the shutter speed to 1/48 when there's not a lot of light to make videos more consistent. When it senses very low light it can drop the shutter speed to 1/24 multiple times in a single video and can make the video look choppy and jarring (when filming in 50p). Also, mp4 can record at 50mbps. AVCHD tops out at 28mbps so there's a lot more data lost but AVCHD is compatible with blu ray players. mp4 is more suitable for editing or playing back on a pc or uploading to youtube.

Thanks, I'll certainly give them settings a go in the mines and record the outcome. Always wondered about AVCHD vs MP4 format but haven't had time to test both. Thanks again, will post the results when I get chance.

How do you control in manual mode? Is there a control ring (around the lens) for manual mode operation? If so, can you control focus and zoom?
@MineExploration
@MineExploration 3 жыл бұрын
Zoom is easily controlled with the slider on the top of the camera, it can be operated whilst recording or on idle. The manual focus is done digitally and is less user friendly as the camera doesn't have a rotatable control for focus.

Does it have external mic input?

Yes it does, it's under a rubber flap at the bottom front right. It's well positioned for mounting a Rhode mic on the top shoe.

I wonder how it compares to Sony AX43. Sony costs a little more but it's 4k (actually pointless for me personally as I record 1080p only). I wonder if the low light and image quality are better in 1080p on sony/

Interesting video, I do have the same camera, but I did not think about trying the HDR mode. Do you have any knowledge regarding battery packs? The camera does not use too much battery, but I'd like to have some extra packs and an external charger, unfortunately the native Panasonic charger (VW-BC10) and batter packs (VW-VBT190 and VW-VBT380) are crazy expensive where I live (Norway). I was looking for third party replacements, but I saw some messages from people saying that their camera refused them because of some checks added by Panasonic, but if you have tried some that worked for you, please tell :) Thanks!

Hi. I bought some of these from Amazon UK: B01FVFQWAK and they initially seemed weak but after a few charges are really good and last for ages. They cost £19.54 each but use the camera as a charger as per the original.

@@MineExploration Ok, thanks for the answer, I guess I will give a shot, having a spare battery that charges while you use the other one would makes things so much better :)

Nice review.. Do you know if it is possible to charge the cam while recording? Because 55-60 minutes is not enough for me. (battery life) an extra battery pack will not do the job for me, because i need a constant recording (minimum of 70 minutes)

Nice review - Considering buying a couple for a podcast I film and record but unsure on the battery length - Do you know how long it would last on full charge full HD? Thanks
@MineExploration
@MineExploration 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, using the original battery the recording time is about one hour 10 minutes at full res when recording constantly in warm (normal) conditions. Zooming in and out makes the biggest impact on battery life, but I find that starting and stopping the camera but leaving it on standby with the screen folded in- the battery easily goes for around 4 hours (which is normally about 50 to 60 recorded minutes). The aftermarket batteries seemed far worse at first but after a few charge cycles can easily keep up with the originals. In all cases the battery life is far better than a GoPro.
