That is what this video is all about. My settings are not the end all be all. They are simply a good starting point for anyone who isn't sure where to start. The changes you made are definitely good choices. You won't be disappointed.

You are awesome. I just made the purchase thru Amazon. I was torn between the LX7 or the Leica DLux 5 or 6. I think I made the right choice. We are going to Balloon Fest in New Mexico. I am in love my LX7 also since I bought it right when it came out. I find it has a sort of classic touch. I recently bought the LVF-2 viewfinder which I also use frequently. Even in 2021 it is something special compared to all these modern gear which seldom have soul.

Very good video for improved photography. I've had my lx7 for a couple of years and have been frustrated with the inconsistent shots in iA mode..now I know why. Thanks for that tip alone! I haven't looked yet, but I hope there's another video for a C2 setting that's different, but useful for most people.
@LearningFast11 жыл бұрын
Good Question. These settings will work outdoors as well. However, I have discovered that using the burst mode disables the flash. Now I setup C1 as single shot for indoors where I might need to use the flash. Then I use the exact same settings in burst mode for C2. That way I can switch back and forth between the indoor and outdoor settings.

Well, wish I'd seen this earlier, because B&H just had it on sale for $299 last week. It said $349 on the website, but in your cart it had an extra $50 off. It also had a bundle option to add Lightroom 4 for $60 which wasn't something I was shopping for, but for the price ($90 off retail) I figured why not? Eventually (if not by now) I'm sure it'll support the LX7's RAW format too. Just keep checking every now and then and you'll find it like I did.

@LearningFast11 жыл бұрын
Yes they are good general settings. You can use 1/60th or 1/120th for minimum shutter speed depending on how much light you have. If you are outdoors then 1/125th is probably fine. Indoors probably 1/60th would be best. I setup C1 and C2 with those options and just switch back and forth when I go inside and outside.

Great set up guide, and right on about the auto function being useless on the otherwise excellent LX7. HOWEVER, when you make these settings, you will turn on burst shooting which will disable internal flash. the bottom button on the multifunction buttons gets you to burst shooting options where you select SINGLE, when you want to use the internal flash. This messed me up quite a bit. Also, the electronic finder is the best money you will ever spend. Great for almost all shooting.

Does the i.zoom function work in movie mode? If so, do you know if at max zoom it would be like ETC mode on the GH2, just using the center pixels of the sensor and not using interpolation? I can't find any info on this anywhere. Thank you!
@jshaw660011 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why, but I don't even have an option in the menu for Program Diagram. It skips from extended ISO to face recognition. And I'm accessing it from manual mode. Also, my flash will not fire not matter what I do. When popped up, the icon has a slash through it. I bought my camera used in Like New condition from Amazon but I'm thinking about returning it.

LX7 best for the money - fast lens and nice menu system. Sony RX100MII/RX100 still the king of the hill in that class and no lens cap to deal with :) Fuji to release X30 soon with at least 1 inch sensor to compete with RX100MII - however not quite pocket-able like LX7 and RX100MII - but you are right LX7 a good deal - Also the Panasonic GX1 at $239 body - nice little M43 camera as well - Lumix has great menus and Fn's on their bodies
@jshaw660012 жыл бұрын
Nice video. Can you make a comment about the LX7's size? I've been trying to decide between the LX7 and the Canon S110. Reason I'm pushing towards the Canon is because it's small. If I can't put it in my pocket then there's no point. I already have a GH2 and will soon have a GH3 that will be carried in bags. I don't want to have to carry the LX7 in a bag as well. The low light performance is so tempting though!!

I wish I had seen this video before being my Lumix, I got the model DMC-ZS50. I can't find a comparable video for that camera. I tried to approximate the suggested setting and it didn't turn out too well. nice video - thanks. I do have the Sony RX100 which is very nice - but price on LX7 now $290 so tempting as a backup - Range not quite as good 90mm vs 100 - 3x smaller sensor - Res on LCD not as high - and not as nice art filters - and needs a lens cap, although I could get that self closing cap. I do have the GX1 and the GX7 and do like the Panasonic menu layout and buttons. Of course what counters the RX100 sensor is the nice and fast lens - F1.4-2.3 - vs F1.8-4.9 - so zoomed the RX100 is nothing to brag about and it hits the slower speeds rather quick. I find my Fuji X20 do quite well in low light for a small camera as it has a bit bigger sensor then the LX7 but it also has a faster lens F2.0-2.8 - So my biggest concern is really ISO performance / low light performance - I would assume the Sony RX100 sensor is a bit better as it is also newer besides size.
