Panasonic SDR-H81 Camcorder Repair

Purchased via Ebay, the camcorder was reported faulty and that it wouldn't power up. This live video blog shows the process I took to render it working again.

I also own an SDR-H80 but it's been converted to 'full spectrum' by (I believe) removal of a IR/UV filter normally installed in the lens train before the sensor. Thanks for making this video, great to see inside the device--that tiny hard drive is an awesome piece of precision mechanical technology :-)

Great job =) I wonder if it was just manual interaction of the micro switch there - seems like the logic was somehow inverted, so I guess it does sound like firmware was an issue as well.

The flex cable needs replacing. I ordered a replacement cable from ebay. I have replaced one on a jvc camera, but now I need to replace the flex cable on a panasonic SDR H80. Do you have a repair video for fixing the flex cable for this panasonic camera? Or have you seen a video for that repair on u-tube anywhere? Thanks

Hey man I got a Panasonic sir-h40p and I need to remove the hard drive but after removing the 6 screws it won't come loose, does it have snaps to do I don't want to break it

Thanks for the video! I need some help, i own a Panasonic hdc-sd60 , i made a tripod myself but i guess i rotated the screw too much(the one which links the camera with the tripod)! now the camera wont turn on at all! if you could tell what could i have damaged! i know it was a stupid thing to do but some help would be much appreciated !

You definitely should get a few jar lids to keep all those screws in, and also keep them separate from each other as many a times I have not only repaired something but I HAVE ALL THESE SPARE SCREWS LEFT OVER AS WELL, ha.

Hello. I was going to ask something, maybe you have information, I bought a small handheld camera, first it did not have a problem, then the zoom started to blur and even when the camera was turned on in the display, nothing started to appear, but it does not always happen, sometimes it returns to normal occasionally, occasionally it does this problem. I was going to ask if this problem could be due to akkü. Do you have any information about it?

First thing I would do is check for an option setting to turn the screen off depending on the angle.

Grunge in the switch... Cleared when manually operated with screwdriver. Longer push distance with screwdriver... ??? Maybe...

Mine one does not have a flashing light it just haves a red light on it and I just put new battery in it and I charge it all night

Yeah I just wanna find the part number for the str-s50.. ribbon split so it's poked... Unless....... any part numbers known?
