One of the AoS lore bits I enjoyed in the new Sepharon book was when a Stormcast Eternal and Saurus were guarding a gate to a city. The Stormcast keeps trying to make small talk to the Saurus, who just doesn't care, until the Stormcast mentions how many kills she got. The Saurus responds by slapping the ground with its tail to reply its own kill count. Was pretty nifty.

Main issue being Saurus aren’t engineered to talk non-seraphon language.(Skinks can and indeed are made to quickly learn any language to the point it’s actual a problem to get Them to shut up xD ) However Saurus can communicate through simple gestures, Old One devices or as “Stars and Scales” rpg supplement notes can learn sign language to communicate with an others like when they assist a Soulbound party. Which of love the idea of this massive reptilian warrior from the stars that just beamed down from a spaceship having to flex its digits around to talk and hope the nearby people understand. xD

The Lizardmen, as with the rest of the world had no interest on the Badlands and still don't. They don't care about any place outside their holdings really, unless they have a reason to, such as going there to retrieve a relic of their empire, and even then their interest is strictly temporary. The reason Nakai in Fantasy is my favorite character- A young woman screeches in terror as her newborn infant daughter is being sacrificed on an altar to Slaanesh by a group of cultists, she cries out to the gods for help. Suddenly a twenty foot tall gator-man stumbles into the scene and death-rolls all the cultists, looks at the weird screaming babe and picks it up, awkwardly placing it back in the arms of her mother. Nakai utters two words. "Where north?" The mother, still in shock but only barely cogniscent of what is being asked points in the direction of north. Nakai goes the opposite way. Two days later, an entire brigade of lizards shows up and asks where the holy one has gone. She points in that same direction. The Skink priest guiding the convoy of followers indicates that 'yes, he follows the great plan'. This is my own personal interpretation and characterization of the Lizardmen, they're likely to be more apathetic if not aggressive toward humans...but y'know what? Nakai's a good boy and this feels in character for him!

I will forever love that basically every other character that comes back from the dead needs either a complex meticulous ritual or a god to bring their soul back to life. But Lord Kroak just decides "Well that was a nice nap time to wake up return to life and mini sun nuke some Chaos" and just by deciding he is done being dead for now it becomes true. Or how Nakai was able to give demons PTSD. During a massive Chaos invasion, massive as in a literal flood of demons massive, Nakai's city was being attacked. The demons where seemingly unstoppable, until Nakai stood upon the one bridge deeper into the city and challenged the demons alone. He held the bridge by himself against the Chaos tide. He beat them so bad that even after the demons reformed in the Chaos Realms, they forever would hesitate when attacking a bridge because what if Nakai appeared here as well?

The Seraphon are hilarious when you think about it. You got the Skinks who are these little Vietcong dudes who can tame the deadliest of dinosaurs, some can become wizards, and some are master assassins that can blend into the shadows with ease. You got the Kroxigors who are like 8 feet of pure crocodilian muscle and bulletproof scales that spend all day doing construction and getting swole. You then got the Saurus who are these masters of combat with thousands of years of experience under their belt and are basically Space Marines combined with dinosaurs who are able to swallow a human wizard like a slim jim. Then you got the other dinosaurs which consist of: - Carnosaurs: Tyrannosaurs but with actually useful arms and a velociraptor killing-claw on all four limbs (aka, angrier versions of the Megaraptorans from Kaimere on steroids and crack) - Bastiladons: Ankylosaurs with either a massive laser on their back or the ability to summon infinite snakes. - Troglodons: Simo Häyhä reincarnated as Spinosaurs who don’t need eyes to headshot you with acidic venom that'd make the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Gorgon jealous. - Stegadons: Ceratopsians which can alter the laws of reality themself. - Ripperdactyls: Pterosaurs that got just a bit to comfortable with piranhas on one long winter night and whose resulting spawn got addicted to licking toads. - Terradons: Pterosaurs that took just a bit to much inspiration from Fat Man and Little Boy. - Aggradons: Raptors that make a Khorne berserker look hematophobic. - Raptadons: Raptors that are somehow as smart as the skinks, taking "clever girl" to a whole other level and are said to be connected to the literal Seraphon god of wisdom himself. They also act as paladins alongside their Skink riders who have laser spears. - Spawn of Chotec: Lizards who think that swimming in lava is a bit mild and breathe enough fire to put a dragon to shame, which of course is also acidic. -Etc. Taking all that into account, it makes you wonder what absolute beast could even hope to lead these things, and then you find out that it's an obese frog on one of those floating chairs from WALL-E. And you, understandably and rightly, chuckle at the sheer absurdity of the situation, until you realize that these especially rare Pepes are able to turn a continent inside out with just a flick of a finger and erase you from existence with a semi-conscious frog fart because the Old Ones probably knew that it would be way funnier if some dumbass Chaos berserker got zapped by an obese frog instead of a dino man. There is actually some lore bits to justify this. There are snippets that state how the C'tan love the taste of the Old One's "degenerated descendeants" and hate them real good, a Slann exist as part of the Cabal in the Horus Heresy, the Slann race (more akin to Lizardmen as whole and not just Lord Kroak Slann) exist since Rogue Trader and while ignored have not been retoconned out, and GW have stated to use Lizardmen to represent backwards Old One/Old One Servants on the tabletop, like using Ork rules as proxy. Fun fact; originally, the Slann and Lizardmen were two entirely separate factions. This is OLD Warhammer lore, going all the way back to the 2nd and 3rd edition, but originally the Lizardmen were the original inhabitants of the Warhammer world, reduced to barbarism after being conquered and defeated by the invading Slann, who reshaped the world in such a way that humans and elves could then grew to dominance, and then ironically degenerated into tribal barbarians themselves. Whilst slann armies could field lizardmen, they were press-ganged vassals only slightly better off than the legions of drug-addled, castrated human slave-soldiers that the slann also fielded, and the slann varied from the now-iconic mage-priests to warriors and scouts. 5th edition is where slann and lizardmen were rewritten into differing castes of a singular reptilian-based biotech robot race created by the mysterious Old Ones, thus taking the form they are now synonymous with today.

To add to the “in AoS they solved their spawning numbers problem so are everywhere now aren’t doomed by losses” their space ships and temple cities multiply too. When they gain enough energy they unfold like golden puzzle boxes and self-replicate.(Old One STC’s/3D printers) This is how they went from the End Times having only a few dozen temple-ships fly off the planet to now their faction map shows they have vast fleets stationed all across the Arcane Cosmos with more temple cities besides that are on top of AND on the underside of the Realms. That’s even why with the recent Life Flood Alarielle made causing unexpected havoc and disrupted the cosmic balance which angered the Seraphon(to the point the no longer can ally gameplay-wise with Sylvaneth like they could in the past) they did let it slide because the cosmic energy unleashed energized both their fleets to multiply, cities self-expand & even reawakened long dormant buried vessels in the Realm crusts which were repaired and able to fly off.(for the Sylvaneth’s part they’re making amends by hunting down the elementals & monsters the Life & Beast floods have unleashed) Also makes and interesting symbiosis where the Seraphon maintain the ships to replication point and the ships in turn make more spawning pools for them to continue populating from(and occasionally unlock hidden vaults of powerful weapons or unhatched monster eggs they can take).

@@MrWolfpack131the FeC, or Flesh Eater Courts, are a faction in AoS that is composed of cannibal ghouls that suffer from a collective delusion where they are civilized , noble people, so they'll see themselves as righteous knights enjoying a banquet after facing Chaos, when in reality they are feasting on the corpses of the peasants they just raided and slaughtered. The curse can be spread by partaking in their cannibalistic rituals or through other magical means, so i assume that in this instance the Slaan was facing a considerable force of FeC, tried to summon some Saurus, but fell into the curse and everyone ate each other.

I love how the Fangs of Sotek have this petty rivalry with the DoK. In the Free Cities, there are rumours of disturbing sacrificial rites wrought in the name of a so-called 'serpent god'. The skinks claim ingorance, citing only their desire to see their adopted homes flourish. When a noble is found dumped in a canal with their heart savagely cut out, many assume it is the work of the bloodthirsty Daughters of Khaine - especially when it is later uncovered that the deceased possessed interests many would deem vile and blasphemous. However, the Daughters note the fanged brands subtly carved into the flesh of the sacrificial victims, and argue otherwise. Basically, it's the two going "They’re the one sacrificing people and cutting out their hearts!", "No, THEY'RE the one sacrificing people and cutting out their hearts!" like a duck-season / rabbit-season skit

Interestingly, it seems that the Seraphon have been working on trying to understand the other races of Order. This has resulted in the Skink Starpriests having an extra role as diplomats: *Besides expertise in the magical arts, Skink Starpriests are amongst the most gregarious of their breed and possess a natural talent for dealing with non-Seraphon. The Fangs of Sotek particularly make use of Skink Starpriests, and within the Free Cities they serve as chief ambassadors to the city authorites at the behest of the skink embassies.* - Battletome: Seraphon (2020): Priests of the Seraphon, pg. 28-29 Speaking of the Fangs of Sotek: *The Fangs of Sotek are most closely aligned with fellow forces of Order, or so they claim. As Oder began to enroach upon the realms once more, the strategy of the Fangs shifted. Once defined by their massed saurus assaults, Zectoka's true desire was to forge a united front against Chaos - albeit with the Seraphon pulling the strings. Therefore, the Fang's skinks, being more civilized, were embedded within the societies of the Free Cities. These skinks serve as crafters, scribes, and readers of oracular portents, growing more renowned as the decades passed. Thus, the Fangs of Sotek became a curious hybrid constellation, partially Coalesced yet keeping much of strength hidden within the temple-fleets.* - Battletome: Seraphon (2020): Fangs of Sotek, pg. 17

Here's a suggestion for you Seraphon players. If you have the older Saurus models (the ones with the hide shields,) keep them as Koatl's Claws. (For non-lizard fans, they are from the temple-ship that the Skaven managed to sabotage, causing it to crash to the surface.) The older models are much more suited to the "super-insane savage" Saurus of that doomed constellation of Seraphon. Meanwhile, use the newer models to represent other lizardmen groups. It's a nice lore-friendly way to integrate both the new and older models into your army.

The Emperor is busy powering an Intergalactic lighthouse, monitoring and performing divine intervention across an entire galaxy, creating his own daemons and daemon princes out of some of his followers, and doing who knows what else in the warp. I imagine that there are plenty of chaos daemons who don’t like seeing a giant man-made beacon flashing in the warp that the Emperor has to deal with.

I've been waiting for this one for a while! Like... literally ever since I heard you mentioning the Lizardmen in past videos, or acknowledging in some way that the Lizardmen might hytpothetically be referenced. I'm a simple man, I heard 'Aztec dinosaurs riding bigger dinosaurs while fighting with magic frogs and crocodile ogres' and I have been obsessed with them ever since. (And true, citing them as a big good faction involves a LOT of caveats but... lets be honest. This is Warhammer and that's kind of part of the territory.) Fun fact but ever since I learned about how the Lizardmen are essentially biological robots that find satisfaction in upholding the function they were created for, I first keep thinking of it in terms like 'Ah, they're the SECOND thing that fits that motif like SU's Gems' which is surprisingly hard to find. And secondly, it occured to me that they technically function well as a direct equivalent to the Astartes for Fantasy/AoS, even more than the Stormcast Eternals. Literally made and built to fight the impossible and win, biologically engineered to fight Chaos and similar threats, immensely huge by human standards... they're essentially Astartes as their own species caste. The idea of a thousand Kroq'gars is a tremendously appealing one. (Also, a LOT of Grymloqs. Ironically this technically means that not only is he NAMED for the King of the Dinobots Grimlock, there's technically more variants of Grymloq than there are individual Grimlocks in established Transformers continuity, and there's a Transformers continuities. Even more if you count sub-continuities, like whatever's going on in the relation between Beast Wars and G1. That is no mean feat, let me tell you!) On the topic of 'Big E sucks, Kroak best emperor', I'd note that Kroak is arguably THE big good guy to all of the non-Chaos/destruction factions, at least in the sense of him ensuring all of this can even exist. (He might not be a statesmen in the same way as Karl Franz, though to be honest I am a little fixated on the idea of the Lizardmen taking notice of Franz because he's cool like that.) Conversely the Emperor is... well, there's multiple videos on that!

While painting my Aggradons, i listened to Andy Law and Loremaster of Sotek's podcast about Tehenauin, and the entire first hour was really more about contextualizing the Old Ones and the development of lizardmen society up to his existence. And it honestly gives such great perspective and characterization to the Lizardmen, and the Great Plan. Its really fun to consider how they all view it differently, and the justification for it is pretty decent. For all their great insight, the Slann arent the Old Ones: the Old Ones are physical but transcendant above it. They are beyond ideas like time, and the Great Plan seems to be something they only wrote down last second before pulling out or w/e actually happened to them.

3:42 The Orcs are an interesting case, because the army books kinda imply they were either native to this world, or the Old Ones accidently brought a few spores along and they grew like weeds. Either way, they were so stubbornly persistent that they couldn't completely get rid of them no matter how hard they tried. I'm personally of the opinion that the Old Ones did not originally create this species, but perhaps out of desperation, decided to use their genes as the basis for the Krorks (and by extension, the Orks of 40k).

The lizardmen are legit my favorite figurines to paint, i'm currently painting Kroq-Gar (the guy from the last defenders) and he's very cool to paint, on top of looking very good.
