one thing i absolutely love about the Skaven is that in some settings it would be easy to think "Wait this one faction is super advanced, why doesnt everyone just do what they do?" and for skaven its because they're basically using fantasy uranium that nobody else messes with because its poison and even the skaven die from it which lets them make advanced but volatile shit but they dont care if it explodes on them. Nobody else could make use of warp stone in this way. Maybe chorfs.

What also helps is that the skaven themselves have not a single damn clue what the hell they’re doing. You'd think Imperials would know better than that. The Empire has the strongest relationship with the dwarfs of any faction, a history of fighting together as brothers in arms against the forces of evil. Surely, in all those years, the leaders of the Empire would have learned that, no matter what you do, no matter how petty their requests, DON'T EVER trigger the dwarfs' limitless capacity for grudging. There should be an advisor in every single court that does absolutely nothing but focus on preventing grudges from being formed against the Empire, a guy who just stands there waiting to legally slap a count across the back of the head for scoffing at those measly 2 coins. In a setting where a dozen non-human races are gunning for you at all times, and one of them can be entirely prevented from doing so by accommodating their crippling OCD, there is no such thing as too much caution.

If people could fall in love to the concept of "Dwarfs in Space" because of Industrialist space miners that frequently shout "Rock & Stone" to each other, so much so that GW even decides to course correct and chase the trend they could've been ones defining it. Then surely army of bear cavalry from Kislev and scaled pegasus riders from Cathay (which makes them infinitely cooler then Bretonian's pegasus because their flying horse mounts are also half dragons) would be an instant smash hit to build, paint and play with on the tabletop. Personally feel its a bit of a crime that the old world is only given just the minimal amount of love and attention then what it rightfully deserves...

@@JackoHak To be fair, the Tau live in quite possibly the cushiest little bubble of ignorance in the galaxy. They never had any massive demonic invasions or psyker crisis to deal with, and they're not a big enough target to draw much attention away from the big fish everyone wants a piece of. The Imperium is a warrior in an endless battle, unable to stop swinging his sword and defending himself long enough to even catch his breath. The Tau are 12-year-olds in a private Minecraft server set to creative mode, building and building without much distraction other than the occasional bored orks or cheeky drukhari to deal with.

Actual reason bretonia is as it is. Its a pair of simultaniously run eugenics programs to create an anti chaos force for an elf goddess doomsday prepping for end times. She chose humans over elves because we cycle faster, why breed elephants when you can breed... well... horses. The entire point is to create and store a massive army of super warriors (she stores the grail knights in magical super stasis) for the final victory vs chaos. It is implied that grail knights (who have all seen her) are actually in the know of this unlike the rest (depending on writer this can be ignored, just the circle, or all grail knight's). then of course all of this was entirely forgotten by end times and they died offscreen. Thank you gw, very cool.

One thing I do kind of miss about the Oldhammer incarnation of the Empire of Sigmar that faded away towards the end of Midhammer was its heavy use of demihuman auxiliaries. In 2nd and 3rd edition, you could take halflings, dwarves, elves, gnomes, ogres and half-orcs as mercenaries, whilst 4e straight up incorporated halflings, dwarves and ogres into the army list. Given the Empire's association with "hey, diplomacy amongst humanoids is actually a decent idea when the alternative is greenskins and chaos", I kind of wish we still had that baked-in Alliance of Order feel. It's a missed opportunity for the Cities of Sigmar in AoS as well.

27:50 man, I really wish that GW develops more the lore of Tilea. It had/has the potential for a lot of interesting plots, but nobody is using it. IRL Reinassance Italy was one of the most chaotic and interesting times in Italian history - for example, Venice once transported and entire FLEET on land in order to defeat Milan, or, to be less specific, there were a lot of mercenary leaders who managed to carve their own kingdoms - now, imagine Reinassance Italy in a fantasy setting, you could come up with even crazier ideas. For Sigmar's sake, GW even created really interesting Tilean characters like Borgio the Besieger, Lucrezzia Belladonna or Marco Colombo and did basically nothing with them.

The guy at my local GW is generally great but when I asked him about Kislev in the new Old World he said it's likely not going to happen because it will offend some people. I'm a slav and I told him there's literally nothing in fantasy outside of Witcher that represents my (general) people and I'd get into Old World immedietly if they had Kislev. I also don't know any Slav's who would be offended, there's nothing so specific in Kislev that could ignite and inter-slav rivalry's. I'm also a fan of Grand Cathay in Total War and that's unlikely to ever be made for the same reasons. :( I usually don't say this unironically but fucking "woke" bullshit.

It's really telling just how big Total War: Warhammer was for the setting just by the sheer amount of it's art and units being used in the video. The trio of games really did manage to somehow create a single map where the ENTIRE setting takes place in a giant playable, moddable arena and nothing like this ever existed for any other setting. Unbelievably ambitious work. Almost forgot to add a few words about the video. Your voice is fantastic and calming, but I especially enjoyed your witty humor. Always remember: GW killed Fantasy, at least, 3-5 years before they officially pulled the plug back in 2015. Tabletop games don't just happen, they require time and investment to develop, test, market, and distribute - aggressive amounts of both if you're operating at GW's scale. This means that AoS was in development for years prior to its release, which is important because it means the time and resources that could/should have been going to Fantasy were instead being shovelled into AoS.

Beastmen and wood elves were both armies geared towards ambush. Wood elves have a lot of ways they can move and cover in forest terrain and can even shift the terrain itself. Beastmen seems to like sitting in ambush behind a tree and jump your army before they form up, using a big swarm of gors. Ogres were the army if you wanted to have nothing but monstrous infantry with nothing below 3 Wounds on the field. Every ogre is a nasty brute, including their basic line infantry. Gnoblars are an option.
