Time to hunker down and stay safe. Creating recipes for a month with what you have in the cabinets and fridge is good way to spend time with the kids. We went shopping two weeks ago and purchased a month supply of fruits and vegetables. We found that apples, oranges, any citrus, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, any root vegetables, and onions last the longest. It’s important to get that citrus in your diet to ward off scurvy. Lettuce can keep up to three weeks if you wash, dry and then roll in a paper towel and the store it in the crisper drawer of the fridge. Our daughter loves ramen noodles so we always have these on hand. Thanks for the great tips and food prep ideas! Stay healthy and safe.

Corn meal is a staple in Africa. They make a thin porridge for infants and thicker consistency to eat with stews. Canned tuna goes well with ramen and makes it a whole meal. I found 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry in the freezer today that was a bit old. I put some tomato paste on top, sprinkled some Italian herbs topped with deli ham and cheese baked in the oven. It fed 4 kids for lunch and they loved it.

Great ideas! I am going to try the granola bars tomorrow. My back ground is Portuguese. When i was a child i used to have soup everyday. So i keep the tradition, special in Winter time. In 30 min. i make 3 or more soup bases. In a big pot i cook potatoes, carrots, pumpkin(squash), onions 3 or more {depends how many soups i am going to do}, salt and a little bit of olive oil. I cook the carrots, potatoes and onions first, then by the last 10 min. i add the squash. When cooked i separate: 1-with potato and onion, 2 potato carrot and onion, 3- potatoes, squash and onion. I put in the fridge or freeze them. When i need i take to the stove, add more water if needed, spices, and the greens:kale/spinach/ leek, etc. The squash one we can add cooked beans as well. Each soup have only one greens. For example the potato one with onion, i add the kale. I add the garlic when i add the greens. It is better to do it by the end of the week to save all the greens before to by new one. :)

This is great content. More please. Love your creativity! Here are some things I took note of on my own to make things stretch, maybe it will help someone also. Stay safe out there! ❤️ Tips Use up fresh produce and foods first. Put water in: Salsas OJ or other juices Hot sauces Cokes Almond milk Creamer and: Shampoo/conditioners Body washes Hand soaps Dawn soap Laundry detergent Freeze half of almond milk and creamer for later. Make biggest serving size of coffee from k cup, pour small cup for right then, then put the rest plain black in the fridge. Add lentils or beans to any ground meat dishes and use half the meat like half a pound. Pound out chicken breasts then cook then dice up very small to put in soups or noodle dishes. Crush up peanuts and other nuts to use in oatmeal or Asian dishes like egg roll in a bowl. Freeze cooked diced carrots or diced onions for soups or other dishes later. Use extra corn tortillas to make homemade baked tortilla chips. Add finely blended dry oats to ground meat for meatloaf or meatballs, or to canned tuna in oil to make tuna patties. Finely blend old fashioned rolled oats anyways to make them stretch for oatmeal. Use measuring cups to ration this and other foods. Zest lemons or limes and freeze zest then juice them and freeze that for later use in things like slaw, taco meat, egg roll in a bowl, or fish dishes. Make eggs or egg whites stretch by adding water or milk, then lots of veggies and tomatoes of choice to a glass dish and bake to make egg squares to put on open-faced sammies or inside breakie burritos.

You guys do like us. I have a large family. Pantry staples are honey, sugar, stevia (one of my daughters has juvenile diabetes), evaporated milk, Nido (a whole milk powder), flour, oats, potatoes, dried beans, rice, pasta, peanut butter, cold cereal, nuts, canned meats, canned fruit, some canned vegetables & applesauce. We keep olive oil, coconut oil & vegetable oil, earl gray tea & herbal tea & chocolate chips (we must have some yum chocolate!). Cold staples are lettuce, tomato, cabbage, yogurt, butter, eggs, chicken leg quarters, ground turkey, cheese & milk For seasoning we have onion, garlic, tomato sauce, broth, bullion, salt, pepper & cinnamon. We also keep cans of diced tomatoes with garlic, oregano & basil & cans of Rotel. Lotsa flavor! I do like to keep frozen fruit & veggies in the freezer as well as orange juice concentrate & apple juice concentrate. I bake often & cook daily. With these foods the possibilities are endless for meals. I have 3 adult children & a baby granddaughter (who are now living with us during the pandemic), 2 teenage sons & then me & my husband. The only things we have to pick up (3 of the family are essential workers so they can pick up an order weekly) are the cold items & produce. It’s not a big order. It works!

Lol that footage of you looking for canned meat in remote corners, climbing with a camera on hand..not the time to be going to the hospital with a broken leg! Climb safely! In switzerland, whatever food you have on hand will not make real meals for a month. Surviving, probably. But not real meals. We don't use more storage than the pantry and the occasional brooms closet shelf with a few staples. I did stock up some in february, actually plugged in the freezer (we don't usually use that either) but it would never last a full month. We order our grocery (delivered by the daily postman) every two weeks or so, but lately thats been complicated so I actually went to the store myself. I sewed some masks and we have desinfectant spray sitting in every corner of grocery shops, with personnel checking that all people spray their hands before entering/changing floors, and staying appropriately distant. Our supermarkets shelves look as stocked as usual, with very few exceptions. No shortage, and we are peaking these days if the evaluations are correct.

Haha, yes, the box falling was such a ridiculous moment. I am glad there is no shortage where you live and that you are being safe!

I'm really looking forward to following your month at home and seeing what you make. Especially as time goes on and you start getting low on fresh food, I'm looking forward to seeing the meals you make with limited supplies.
