I'm a guitarist and what I perceive is Mike Portnoy is the metal equivalent of a jazz drummer. No matter how much technical stuffs he plays - they don't lose musicality. I think that separates him from the rest 99% of drummers now a days.
@natethegreat8533 Жыл бұрын
lol No. He’s an outstanding percussionist plain and simple. nothing “jazzy” about his playing AT ALL
@Serfo_ Жыл бұрын
@@natethegreat8533 Probably you didn't get the analogy, he's not saying Portnoy is "jazzy", but compared to his metal peers, he seems a lot more musical (metal drummers tend to be just a mix of strenght, stamina and velocity; but they lose some points in some other areas because of that).
@desperateloner8555 Жыл бұрын
Well, you don't listen to lots of drummers then. Don't get me wrong, I like Portnoy too. But comparing him with the rest 99% of drummers is too much. 99% is a big number man, you should try to listen to more drummers
