Anxiety related to public speaking is similar to a panic attack.

I have panic attacks when I have to speak/read out loud, even if its just a couple other people. The thing is, Im a very outgoing and talkative person, Im usually the one telling all the jokes in the group, or keeping the conversation going. But at work I just freeze up, I get that lump in my throat and I cant focus, I think people are really suprised when a person like me (who hardly ever shuts up) cant speak in front of groups. Anyways, glad to hear your over the fear!, Im still working on it.

This is good advice. The key is don't be afraid of the feeling of anxiety. Just accept it as a feeling and just a feeling. it is nothing more.

Awesome and scary advice at the same time!!!!I'm terrified of people, public speaking and casual conversations!! The fear of speaking in public is so overwhelming that I have to flee the situation like a frightened mouse! I've been running away from fears all my life!! The thought of confronting fears and being humiliated in front of others in the process is just petrifying and traumatizing. I've come to the realization that the only way out of hell is through hell!!facing fear is a blood sport!!!!Thanks sir for the life-changing advice!!!!

It's interesting to see all the outgoing people that have trouble speaking once the spot light is on them. I am also outgoing and a bit of a clown with my friends, but I was having trouble even introducing myself during round table discussions at work. It's still a work in progress, but I can tell you that this approach works if you are willing to imagine the situations and sit with the feelings. It seems counterintuitive to allow the feelings to be there, but that's the real key

What usually helps me is to practice!!! Practice practice practice it does forreal help out! And also, recognize that it’s okay he feel scared and nervous! Lol Almost all the greatest public speakers who you see that sound sooo good will tell u that they were nervous too!❤️ Make sure to practice ! :-) and accept it n your heart that it’s okay to be nervous or to mess up! Once you think like that and be yourself, you got it!🙌🏾 But the more you focus on being scared and nervous, and feeling doubtful the worst it’s going to get!

Practice does help, and a lot. Usually I can’t even get up to present a topic or speak to just one class but I did today. I was doing good for a while. I went through 17 slides and was still going. But all of the sudden I started shaking really bad. And tried to hide it, and I focused on the feeling so bad that I stuttered in my presentation and out loud I said “omg I’m shaking so bad” as a joke. But then everything became so real, and I started crying. I only had 3 slides left to present and I’m so disappointed I didn’t make it through all the way. lol sorry for going off topic but yes you’re right, practice really helps.

@@LilianaHernandez-dc6dn sorry that happened to you, but you did get through most of the slides which is awesome! I bet this situation built up your confidence a lot and you’ll notice this the next time you present. I have intense anxiety w group public speaking at work w my school nurse co workers, it is the worst feeling and yes it almost brings me to tears too, even thinking about it.

I'm scared to lose my job or be placed on another project due to my sudden panic attacks in the midst of presentations...so much so, I have to jump off the call (I am presenting remotely of all things.) It's extremely embarrassing and I feel now, it's constantly going to be in my head "don't panic don't panic" and boom, I'll panic. Odd thing is, I am comfortable with the topic, I have presented to the same audience many times but now, these panic attacks have come out of nowhere.

I have the same problem:/ I am also a remote worker and I used to be very comfortable with zoom presentations but suddenly I started getting this panic attacks during very casual presentations and discussions. I quit caffein and it makes nervousness manageable so I can speak even if I am nervous. But still not sure how to fully overcome that. Have you helped yourself?

It takes constant practice in my experience, but yes this is great advice. I was a briefer in the military 13+ years. Didn't quite know that would be my main purpose and I was shy and hated public speaking. I'm out of practice and yet still there is a way of pushing through that can be harnessed and it is exactly like described in this video. It wasn't immediate, but it does work and works for many things in life.
