When I was born in 1972. My family was living in Dresden, at the time East Germany. My father worked as a policeman, (Not the Stasi!), which allowed us to have things others could not have. My mom was a big fan of Athletics (I am actually named after a Multi-Gold medal winning athletic from the Munich Olympics.) During the late 1970's, my two older sisters, who are 1.86m and 1.82m tall respectively, were both enrolled in one of the many "Sportschule," which is a "sports school." When they insisted that my sister's begin taking "vitamins" and "supplements," my father became outraged, confronted the coaches and caused a huge problem! Not long after, we had to leave East Germany! Fortunately, we were able to come to the United States! Watching the 1988 Olympics, especially in woman's track and field, it became apparent that the competition became the East German Chemists vs. the chemists from the United States! Now to combat the drug use during the Olympics, the I.O.C. actually takes blood samples! -Heide 🇩🇪🌹

Drugs or no drugs, Ben Johnsons win at the Seoul Olympics was one of the greatest ever. From a spectators view point it was an amazing victory. He blew the other runners out of sight and Carl Lewis complained/hinted that Johnson was doping, but it has since come to light he himself was doing the same and his positive results at the LA Olympics had been covered up by the US authorities. Linford Christie was also caught doping years later. It was just bad luck for Johnson when all this is taken into account. Lewis was lucky when at the LA games that it was on home territory with US authorities willing to look the other way instead of banning him.

The Olympic games as well as the tour de France, NFL, etc. are all about science and technology. When I watch such sports events I always see it as a competition between laboratories and technical scientific methods and protocols. Since the end of my childhood I don't see any sport events as they should be and once were: competition between different innate biological settings and techniques. But the same goes for the intellectual abilities with student's using drug's like retalin, etc to improve academic and professional results. Therefore I think that using only what mother nature gave you is quite exotic and unique. Depressing....

The people that make the drugs are always 5 steps ahead. As soon as the testers finally figure out what athletes are taking there's already new stuff available for them which is why some athletes never get caught and never will get caught, and it's why some athletes are found to have taken something years after they've retired from sports. Drug testers are honestly fighting a losing battle. If it wasn't for people like Yulia Stepanova Russian athletes would still be competing.
@jackssmirkingrevenge93654 жыл бұрын
i know nothing about it but cant some way be devised of testing for the _effect_ these different chemicals have on the physiology rather than trying to blindly stab around for new chemical combinations in the dark as it were? must be some effect they can now monitor which only happens w/ performance enhancing drugs with such sensitive equipment available nowadays 🤔

Always be suspicious of athletes who develop cancer because it’s one of the side effects of taking drugs.

@@jackssmirkingrevenge9365 Ben Johnson's supposed drug positive was proven in court to be setup : the drug found was in 100% concentration which an expert testified was impossible in a urine sample. He was disqualified for having a endocrine imbalance. It came out Seoul tested the endocrine balance of all the athletes in Seoul and 80% were found to have an endocrine imbalance. An endocrine imbalance is the result of long term heavy doping. The body compensates for the additional steroids by reducing its own steroids. In women the give away of an endocrine imbalance is a moustache : both Evelyn Ashford and Flo Jo had such. The problem is modern drugs, and hormonal modification, cover up an endocrine imbalance.
