They were mutual agreements between the suppliers of performance enhancing drugs and the athletes using them. Both parties knew they were partaking in breaking the rules.

The entire IRS investigation against Victor Conte and BALCO was an absolute joke. What type of person becomes an IRS agent and rides around looking to jam up people because of what kind of car they drive, or because something may look "off" to a person who knows nothing about what they are looking at? Sad, sad little boys playing cops.

2023 is the final year of eligibility in the Baseball hall of fame for Barry Bonds. He nabbed only 66 percent of the votes failing to reach 75 percent to make it. It's because of this Balco scandal and steroids. Look at his body transformation in one season. He became a monster.

I wonder how doped up Hitler had his olympians. Always funny hearing how these athletes "didn't think they were steroids" as their bodies started to quickly gain lean muscle.

Only testosterone was really synthesized at that time. There was no epo or even Dianabol at that time. I believe Dbol didn't come around until the 60's. Tbol with the East Germans in the 70's.

It sad to see no more real athletes anymore many, as the saying goes ,I’m afraid are manufactured. The minute you come off peds like with cocaine heroin fentanyl or crack depression and withdrawal symptoms set in and your mental health hits rock bottom. It’s all about getting yourself known on tv and social media , prestige money power and fame . The old saying these days ‘do whatever it takes’. It will in the end destroy your life.

Watched "Untold" on Netflix which led me to this as I didn't recall this interview happening at all. Just absurd/hilarious 20 years later to watch the unethical Bashir interviewing the unethical Conte as if we should take their word in any way in either of their fields.

That was Balco, and they were caught, I'm wondering how many Balco-similars emerged afterwards that haven't been discovered yet. Only athletes sponsored from mega firms supplying them with the $ necessary to afford performance-enhancing substances. The likes of American and Jamaican runners and always suspicious Kenyans.

A lie detector is only as good as the person administering it. They are a joke
@DoubleMonoLR
@DoubleMonoLR 5 ай бұрын
@@closer20jc That's a comparatively minor aspect. "Lie detectors" *don't* detect lies, they detect nerves, nothing else. A "better" operator of the polygraph machine is basically just turning it into body language analysis - both are pure pseudo-science, aka bull***t. People can easily pass lie detector tests while lying, using extremely basic techniques. Likewise people can "fail" despite being totally truthful & innocent. The popularity of lie detectors is solely because of the USA's irrational use of them, they're basically the only place in the world that puts any value on them. Even in the USA, most states *ban* the use of polygraph evidence. In reality, they're often used just as a tactic to make people admit guilt, or to make them look guilty if they refuse the test.

Jesus, if you took a shot every time they say “cheat” you’d be dead in the first five minutes. Looking back at this feels like such a time capsule, it all sounds so corny and black and white, but living when we do now it’s just cartoonish to think that pro athletes aren’t all doing EVERYTHING they can to win. I’m not defending steroid and EPO use and the damage it can cause to the body, but it’s the prisoners dilemma; it’s like if you’re a soldier and guns are banned by law, but every single enemy of note is using a gun - what are you gonna do, deliberately handicap yourself compared to everyone else and try to fight with a spear when everything is on the line? Athletes have a limited window to make virtually all the money they ever will before they suffer irreversible damage from hard af training and injuries. Logically speaking, if even a few people break the rules, then there’s zero reason to follow them unless you want to fail and be a martyr only god will remember, having wasted years of your past, who knows how much of your future and your biggest dreams

People love the spectacular. And drugs creates that.
@DoubleMonoLR
@DoubleMonoLR 5 ай бұрын
No, it doesn't, though the idea is popular. The speed improvement in sprinting, for example, is still a very small change. It's just that the little bit extra is very hard to overcome/requires disproportionately more effort, as with many sports. An extra few %(or less) improvement is often enough to easily beat everyone else. It's highly unlikely anybody would even notice the difference in many events, if all athletes were clean vs the current doped up athletes. Men were running the 100m in 10 seconds flat in the 1960s, with worse shoes and tracks. Hell even in 1890 it was already 10.8 seconds. Inevitably these same men would be faster with current running gear and tracks, and potentially training and diet. The only spectacular thing would often be that they just look unnatural, though there's always been some natural biological freaks - except it stood out before PEDs were rampant, and so was *more* spectacular. That so many are doping also brings a big disconnect, and destroys credibility. Every win is accompanied by wondering if they were doping.
