How often should you wash a vehicle? What about if it drives about 2,500 miles per week? I drive pure black Livery (limo) SUV's I take it thru the automatic car wash place about once a day, but would LOVE if the black paint actually stayed BLACK... and stayed cleaner longer. Any suggestions?

Great video, I do like old Volvos, including this one, which puts up a fight when being repaired lol 😂.
@PanTheOrganizer3 жыл бұрын
Limo drivers and taxi drivers have it tough as the car is always exposed to the elements and if you go to an automatic car wash every day, even the best ceramic coatings will eventually fail (even though they last way longer compared to regular waxes or sealants). Your best bet would be to stay on top of things by having a ceramic coating applied, and then maintaining that coating with a silica spray sealant once every two weeks. The paint should at least stay glossy and slick (even though it will accumulate swirls and scratches).
@jenr80493 жыл бұрын
@@PanTheOrganizer exactly! I yse the turkle wax and dry... I think? The green bottle. And it will look great, but one MAYBE 2 trips thru the car wash and it's gone.... not to mention the black just isn't black. When we first by them they look great, and in less then a few months they start to show ALL the swirls and are not shiny. And I've looked for the "black" products at Wal-Mart, Target, Auto zone even Lowes... lol and NO ONE has them. 😥

Could you do a video where you try to clean your car at a public self wash station? For example some people have nice cars but live in apartment complexes. It would be interesting to see how youd organize a 'esential cleaning pack' that you can take in the car and basically do the stuff there and only use the water from the wash :) not their brush🤢 Awesome video nonetheless

When you foamed it from the start you let it sit a few minutes and then started to bucket wash it That is fine if you are starting out with a fairly clean car but if you have a car with a lot of road grime, bugs, dirt etc. Should you not rinse that foam off first after letting it dwell a couple minutes and then start your two bucket wash?

Hi Pan, I recommend the new single bucket wash method, it guarantees no dirt gets on your wash mitts. You just need 1 bucket of soap and 6-8 wash mitts. Use the wash mitts and dip in soap once per panel and then set aside. This means you are using a new wash mitt per panel and guaranteed no dirt in your soap bucket since it’s a new mitt every time. Hope this helps in the future :)

@@ianirwin5405 I would normally foam the car, let it sit then rinse. Then foam (instead of dipping my wash mitt in soapy water) and use that foam to hand wash. So I did what Pan did, spray the rinse less wash, let it sit, and then proceed to my foam wash. The rinse less wash is supposed to be designed to remove dirt better. So thats what I do now, maybe I’m wrong, but Pan is more experienced than me so I followed his instructions. I tried it and I like it, but everyone’s conditions are different.
@butchc92263 жыл бұрын

One area you didn't cover in washing a car is to clean and dress the inner wheel wells. I typically clean well as I clean the wheels and then when I dress the tires (I use Mequiars natural shine protectant), I spray the inner wheel wells and use a scrap piece if towel to work it in to the surface. It makes the wheel wells look so great. I picked up this habit from watching preowned dealers and wholesalers spray a dressing on the inner wheel wells to make them look better.

My blue 2017 GMC Sierra truck still looks amazing after 3 years of cleaning it properly thanks to your earlier "2018 regular maintenance wash vid". Even though it's a "truck" I treat it as if it's my own Porsche 911 dream vehicle. I took the truck to a professional to have it paint prepped and ceramic coated immediately after viewing that video and it was worth every penny. Bought better soap, buckets, drying cloths, detail spray and wheel/tire dressings. The truck still looks better than it did brand new after every wash. A standard wash without detail spray is usually about a 2 hour project but it's definitely relaxing and rewarding. Congrats on the new ride and thanks for continuing to educate us with your passionate knowledge on keeping our vehicles looking their best. Cars are much like clothing. If it looks good, you will most likely feel good while driving it! One subject I would love more info on is using quick detail spray on cars that haven't been washed in a week. Quick detail spray always has me worried that I'm going to scratch the vehicle while just cleaning up bird droppings or wanting to clean a hood without having to wash the entire vehicle. Do they work as well as they claim?

Pan, Love your videos. Question: before you start washing the car, after the pretreat rinse less wash, do you rinse off the initial snow-foam then re-apply a second coat of foam for use with the cleaning mitt?

Thanks Steve! Welcome to my channel. You discovered one of the biggest car detailing channels on KZbin as we surpassed 930,000 subscribers and we have over 122 million views! I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. On a lightly dirty car, after rinsing the snow foam, you can just go straight to the contact wash if you want. On a dirtier car, I would recommend rinsing the snow foam, then foam again, then hand wash. How did you discover my channel by the way?

I have a question about the drying aid, does the synthetic spray wax’s do the same thing and add that extra layer of protection for the paint ? Or do you recommend a traditional wax over the synthetic? Also is there any other spray wax’s or sealants you’d recommend for the final touch on an exterior wash to make it pop ? I personally like the Maguires spray synthetic wax. Keep up the great work man love your channel.

@17:34 Also really quick, if you use have a coating on your car, you can use free flowing water to dry it faster. (What I mean by that is the removal of the hose head or power washer spray tip so the stream is laminar/smooth.) I usually start at the roof and let smooth stream sheet all of the beads off of the paint and glass (This works on wheels too). Then the car should be around 70-90% dry. Follow up with a spray wax, detailer or use a leaf blower/air blaster. If you live a hot/humid environment like me, this makes the leaf blower drying go by faster. The glass is probably the hardest to dry because if you miss a spot you’ll have water spots everywhere. **Just a small tip for anyone who also uses a leaf blower to dry their coated car**

Pan, I enjoy your videos on car detailing and cleaning. You have mentioned before about troublesome water spotting when rinsing the car after washing. I have found a way to eliminate this effect completely. I do a final rinse with store-bought distilled water which dries absolutely clean with no residue whatsoever. I use a battery-powered pressure washer (I have a Dewalt unit that works great.) that can be fed from a 5-gallon bucket containing the distilled water. Four to five gallons are enough to rinse the card. It is especially good in the gaps between panels where it is very hard to dry with a towel. It only costs about $7 for the water. I also use this system for my house windows.

One tip I came up with my self when dealing with spray on and rinse off sealants.. work from the bottom up when you rinse with the pressure washer.. less likely to have the drippings from the washing going on up top carrying off any product before you have a chance to set it in with pressure on the lower parts. Love it or hate it.. I found this method works well for insuring everything is going on more evenly.

There are no miracles if you have dust issues unfortunately. Regular washing is what I'd recommend as that is what is the safest method. I wash my car twice weekly. If the car is clean, but only has a light layer of dust on it, you could use a plush microfiber towel and a detail spray to wipe it down gently. You can also use a quick detailer that has antistatic properties like this one: bit.ly/3Uvy3PZ

I just did a great wash using these techniques though I'm still waiting for my pressure washer. With the ELY Hose/QD/Sprayer Nozzle Set I can lay down a powerful spray, much like a pressure washer. A Foamaster foam gun at the highest setting and full Strength Adams makes plenty of rich clinging foam in no time. I disconnected the clunky spray gun and QD attachment from the canister and screwed it directly on to the ELY nozzle so I wouldn't have to constantly squeeze the handle, replacing the sprayer nozzle after foaming. I've gone from newbie to enthusiast in record time. Thank you Pan for all your tips and tricks.

I have been detailing for 26 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. Unfortunately, there aren't miracles if you don't have access to a heated garage during winter. You don't detail cars below 50F (10C). You can either bring it to a self-serve car wash if that exists near you, or take it to a professional detailer and have them do it. I don't recommend using automatic car washes, as those use harsh chemicals that will weaken or strip your paint's protection (wax, sealant, coating, etc).

I’m intrigued by the ONR pre-soak idea. I plan to try it on my next maintenance wash this weekend. Do you feel it makes the snow foam step a bit redundant? I do like the lubrication that the snow foam adds, but I feel with the pre-soak then snow foam and having soap in my bucket...it’s just a ton of products I’m using. Do you feel you could skip the snow foam step using the rinseless pre-soak method? Especially using GSF in the wash bucket as well...it is crazy slick as I’m sure know. Foaming the car is a ton of fun, though! I’d like to hear your thoughts, Pan.

Hi. You can use a pressure washer on classic cars, just don't exceed 2000 psi. 1000 to 2000 psi is the maximum recommended pressure when washing a car. Don't use high powered gas motor 3000-5000 psi pressure washers. I set my pressure washer to 1000 psi when washing cars. And don't place the nozzle near the paint. Stay back a few feet. Hi Pan. After seeing Scott Bley of DPC use 5 mitts from a bucket of clean soapy water and never put a dirty mitt into water after using it, I tried it and have used it ever since. I was using the 2 bucket method, but found that after ‘rinsing’ my mitt in the clean water bucket and then dunking it in the soapy solution bucket and using it to wash a car, I very quickly ended up with 2 buckets of dirty soapy solution. When i tell my clients I never dunk a wash mitt in dirty water they are intrigued and have sometimes employed me just to see how it works. I feel a multi-mitt method is best. Lloyd

I see this is an older video so I was wondering if you still recommend a drying aid when using drying towels? Is there any risk of the aid destroying the towels ability to absorb water? I always wash my towels after every car wash using Tide Free & Gentle which has worked very well for me keeping my microfiber towels fresh and clean. If you do still recommend a drying aid is there any special care needed to prevent my drying towel from being ruined? Cheers.
@PanTheOrganizer4 ай бұрын
You should always use a drying aid when using a microfiber towel to dry your vehicle. The drying aid (or quick detailer) acts as a lubricant between the paint and towel, minimizing the chances of marring the paint during the drying stage. I always wash the towels after each use, with a quality microfiber detergent like this one: amzn.to/4dkk7lA Of course, over repeated use, it's inevitable at some point that your towel will see its fibers coated by the drying aid, and will become less absorbant. It is what it is, you can't have it all. Rather buy a drying towel every three years, than run the risk of marring the paint. Plus using a drying aid boosts gloss and slickness after a wash, which we all appreciate. For 100% touchless drying, you can also use a blower, car dryer or leaf blower, if your car has some form of paint protection (wax, sealant, or ceramic coating). The hydrophobic properties of the protection makes the water fly off the paint and you dry your car super quickly (my preferred method).

Man, pan youre videos seriously are high quality, thought out, and informative. So first off, much appreciated. I do have some questions though, my main question is, how often do you use something like a bead maker or ceramic spray as a drying aid? I cant imagine youre apply bead maker twice a week when you clean your car do you? And if not, What do you use on the weeks its not needed for a drying aid? Onr? No drying aid? Also, this is more generic, but i still cant wrap my head around the differences between a quick detailer, paint sealant, and drying aid. It seem weird to me if say, i washed my car three days ago and it got dusty to use something like bead maker to clean it. Maybe im wrong and thats exactly what its for but would that not cause issues to apply a coating like that to a dirty surface?

Great video. What about a 1 bucket method... Snow foam the car, and rinse it off. There is usually soap left in the foam cannon so what about just refoaming the car with that and then using the microfiber mitt on that rinsing the mit in a bucket of water along the way.

I made a video about 1 bucket vs 2 bucket methods here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIfYg5yvmsatp7M

@PanTheOrganizer Thanks for the fast reply! I was actually just in the middle of watching that video. 😋. But my thought/question is that instead of having ~5 towels/mitts in the bucket of soap to just refoam the car and use that instead of a soapy bucket. And then just rinse the single mitt every so often in a clean water bucket. Just trying to figure out if there are any downsides to that idea.

I learned something new today watching the "How to Wash Your Car Like A Pro" video. I never have put a rinseless wash pre-treatment on the paint before I rinse. I will start doing that step. QUESTION: Do you see any problem using a cheaper (Big Box Hardware Store) garden pump sprayer to spray on the rinseless wash pre-treatment in place of using the auto detailing pump sprayers? In other words, will they get the job done adequately?
@PanTheOrganizer2 жыл бұрын
Yes the garden pump sprayers should be good enough for spraying a rinseless wash solution, no worries there. Rinseless washes aren't harsh chemicals.

As a weekend warrior these products work great for me especially McKee's rinseless wash in pre-wash .

Appreciate all your videos. I have cleaned off seagull droppings but still leaves a stain. What do you recommend to remove the stain? Thank you.
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
If left unattended, bird droppings are acidic and can start etching through the clear coat. If you washed the car and the stains are still there, you need to move to the next step: machine polishing.

Thanks. What are your thoughts on using rubbing alcohol or goo gone?

It won’t do much at this point in your case.

Congrats for your new stunning car. God bless you. I have a question. Which product would you use for that black plastic beside the exaust, specially for old cars that might get that faded? Thank you.

Thanks! You would need a trim restorer like Solution Finish or Cerakote trim coating restoration kits.

I have a question about the wheels cleaning. Do you use a wheel bucket to rinse off your brushes or do you just rinse them with the pressure washer?
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
I rinse them with the pressure washer and let them air dry until the next use.
@alexf6021 Жыл бұрын
@@PanTheOrganizer So you rinse the brush from the dirt with the pressure washer before you go on to the next wheel? No dedicated wheel bucket necessary?

Good stuff Pan-Man. I have found Meguiers wheel cleaner diluted is good for my Taco’s wheels; also use same type bucket with a dirt guard and mitt. For best shine on tires I have found that spraying on just about any silicone dressing in the sun gives the best shine-no wiping required. Will check back for more!!
