That's why I don't give too much of a damn about the damage calculations. As long as I know what damage I could do (approximately) and if I know the monster weak spot I'd go ham on it. It's really interesting to know this much stuff included in the game. Thanks for doing this video to help those that are curious about it Heddy.

Starting with Freedom Unite and then going into Rise before eventually making meta-ish sets in Sunbreak, it is shocking to see how so much is practically the same in old world. I mainly wanted to watch this for gathering the true raw and because I've gone on a nostalgic trip back to MHFU and introducing it to a friend, so of course I'd return to the channel that gave me such great basic weapon guides so many years ago and yet here you are still covering the game and giving the community peak content with efficient and explanations and fun examples. Your impact on the community is understated, it's awesome how newcomer-friendly you are, especially since I'm a couple years late to seeing these too!

Something worth noting that I completely missed up until today (5/7/2022) is that Dual Blades specifically deal 70% elemental damage. It's easy to miss in the sheet unless you're a DB main. Thanks to Xenix in the discord for bringing that to my attention. (5/30/2022) For ~ 20:11 The guild lady tells us this about quest difficulty in the gathering hall: "Quests are divided by difficulty into 4 grades: Level 1 and 2 are easy Level 3 through 5 are normal Level 6 through 8 are hard Level G through G3 are G rank" I may update this comment with more addendums as they come up, feel free to reply with anything you think I've missed, just in case >.

Wow this is actually amazing heddy. Like.... I never knew that there was this many factors and calculations happening every time I swing my big sharp metal stick onto monsters to damage them. Yea I aways thought that the bloated numbers in the weapon dmg was accurate. So I always wondered why is killing monsters taking so long. With all the sharpness stuff, I actually had the right mindset, but wrong idea. I always thought that the reason why its best to keep your weapons sharp is because it makes your weapon cut through monsters more and deal more damage. But yea there is a little bit more to it than just that. And the way you explained, organized and edited the video is just great. I assume that the editing alone, even just at that quaity, took you a decent chunk of time to edit. Like... this is srsly why I subscribed to this man... And also, yea its almost June so Im very excited to start grinding my mhfu acc back up and hopefully... get to play w you haha.

If there is one thing I don't like about monster hunter its the sharpness mechanic where more sharpness equals better weapon. I really wish aside from low sharpness everything had a 1.0 modifier in damage. Monster hides have different levels of hardness too so sharpness could be used as a checkmark to see how well a weapon would fair against a monster. Gravios for example could demand blue to white sharpness to even be cutable.

@HeadHunter455 Жыл бұрын
Yes 😄 lol Like, depending on the situation and your armor skills/weapon/weapon type/its sharpness/etc. you can chill when you drop to, like, white or blue, but in general, if you want to keep up damage, you gotta maintain the sharpness too. Some weapons have a TINY amount of purple/white/blue/whatever and at a certain point if you're sharpening constantly just to maintain it, you should consider getting armor skills, sharpening less, or even changing weapons. It all depends, at a certain point you don't NEED as much damage as possible :P

Amazing video! Never knew anything about these mechanics but they're so important! It's a bit bitter that under the best condition your true damage is so low but hey, i guess they needee to balance the challenge of the game for G-Rank, otherwise in late game people would just stomp monsters within seconds. I played my first MHF2 on PSP like 20 yrs ago and i never got further than low rank, BUT NOW I WANT TO KEEP UP THE GRIND TILL G RANK FATALIS 😠😠
@HeadHunter45511 ай бұрын
Yeaahh! Let's goo 😄😄 You can do it! 🙂 And yeah, lol our actual damage is relatively low compared to the weapon's bloated values :P G-Rank's main challenge comes from faster movesets and additional attacks as well as a blanket defense modifier that just makes them take less damage, on top of a higher health pool haha, it's a bit demanding, but if you take your time and plan ahead you can definitely do it 😄 Thanks for watching! Factoring in DPS means that as long as I keep my sharpness up dual blades deal the most damage (since I can land 30 more attacks in the same amount of time as a greatsword combo, despite the motion value of a level 3 charge having a good modifier). Interesting, because back in the day I played 700 hours of longsword. I always thought it was weird back in the early days of youtube how people had the monsters health on screen and were only dealing like 40 damage despite their weapon having 1000 ATP. I downloaded an emulator and was getting back into MHFU but didn't want to spend another 700 hours getting back to where I was so I wanted to see how to actually get the most damage out of my weapons. Good video!

I love your videos by the way, just wanted to say. i had put 1000s of hours into MHFU when it first came out with my childhood best friend and it was an amazing time. We are replaying it now on an emulator and just being able to see what we could have done when we were younger just makes us laugh now lol. But if you ever have a chance i have an Affinity build that im working on (Currenlty Farming and Grinding for better gathering/Alchemy supplies and skills) and I found a set that you can play with 100% and I Gotta look more into it but maybe Add Jewels for extra attack boosts as well. But the Armor is the Ankantor Armor with the Hidden Breaker. im not sure if it adds it to 100% total or not or if its set as 30/70 for every hit like Mulit hit moves from Pokemon. But i thought it was an interesting set for damage espically for Affinty. When i can upgrade it, the set would be RA +3 and if im able to put it in, i would like to do Evade +1 or STellar hunter/Edge Master for the sharpness and attack up. but ill come back to edit it when i do finally get everything for my set and ill play around with jewels to see what i can do. Your vidoes have been giving me lots of love i had left behind including MHFU in my life and during the rough part of my life thats going on i always enjoy sitting down and watching your videos that helped me push to play it again and its been helping with a lot of issues so thank you for your videos and you putting them up on here!

lmao, yeah it's pretty nutty huh, but interesting. There's some cool stuff going on that makes things that you might think was the best in the game not *super* powerful over others, while other weapons that you might think aren't really usable, not so bad, and better than some options :)

After watching this video two times. I got the certainty that I should avoid calculating my damage beyond ATP. Too much trouble and I'm too casual for this 😅
@HeadHunter455 Жыл бұрын
lmao yeah it's not totally practical, but it's good to know how things work so you know generaly what affects your damage and by how much and don't focus too much on one thing or another. That being said, too much min/maxing can be a detriment to your enjoyment of the game. Using a badass looking weapon that took you a while to use is a lot of fun. Learning that it's actually not that good and you could've gotten a better one that would've been easier to get..... is a lot less fun.

Haha, well, hey, all of these numbers only mean so much, you also need to be smart with how you play, but hopefully understanding the mechanics can help you feel more confident that you're doing the best you can 🙂

This made me think... What the hell were Capcom thinking back then adding bloated raw damages on weapons only to be mislead by secret formulas that doesn't even appear in the game? I don't even like math!
@HeadHunter4553 жыл бұрын
lol, "back then" also includes Monster Hunter World, Iceborne came out in 2019 and still had bloated values :/ Hopefully one day they realize it's maybe not the best design lol, we'll see. 😩

So, the optimal thing to is to take the most important values in the formula, and see where the most damage is dealt and then focus there when actually fighting the monster... Huh. (I hope i understood everything right)
@HeadHunter4553 жыл бұрын
Basically. I don't want to downplay the potential importance of the full formula, but I think it's more practical to use a shorter one to get a general idea. Mostly just keep in mind that attack values are bloated, so you don't think that "960" is more than "280" (GS and SNS true values of 200), because if we went off of what the game tells us; The starting GS, Rarity 1, has an ATP of 336. You know what else has an ATP of 336? The shining wyvern blade, a SNS, Rarity 8. That's obviously not entirely true, huh, the starting GS' true raw is 70, while the shining wyvern blade's is 240, which is almost 3.5x that of the starting GS. Besides that, understand how sharpness and affinity affects your damage, as well as how status buildup works and is applied, and the effectiveness of elemental, or relative lack thereof when using a slower weapon like a GS.

Some things I want to add: • Some weapons have elemental damage multipliers, like Greatsword • With yellow sharpness: if you hit on the start of the animation you do 60% of your actual damage; if you hit on the end of the animation you only do 70% of your actual damage. ONLY if you hit on the middle of the animation you do 100% of your actual damage. This is a big bummer, especially with fast hitting weapons like SnS or DB, so try to use yellow sharpness as less as possible. Good video overall
@HeadHunter4553 жыл бұрын
The elemental damage multiplier is the "variable" part of the calculation, which I mentioned in the video. GS has a 10%, 20%, and 30% modifier to both raw and elemental damage for each level of charge, and both GS and LS have a bonus of 5% for hitting with the center of the blade. I have yet to see anything about yellow sharpness affecting damage in the way gaijinhunter talks about for MHRise. The FAQ mentions a yellow sharpness "correction value": "When your weapon has yellow sharpness, there are three things that can occur to affect the outcome of damage. This is called a "correction value." One is that certain attacks will halve your total damage (0.50) while bouncing off reduces your total damage by 70% (0.30). If neither of these occur, then there is no correction value (1.0.)" If you have any sources about MHFU's system working like how gaijinhunter says it does in MHRise, I'd like to see it. As it is, the gamefaq's FAQ could be flawed as well, it's just the main source of info we have to go on, as far as I'm aware. Thanks for watching.
