I keep a section of my recipes that use only pantry items except maybe meat from my freezer but some can use canned meat. I also garden so I might use veggies from there if I have a good harvest. I have close to 90 recipes for my pantry preps.

I come from the South Carolina coast line and every year during hurricane season we usually lose electricity (or worse). When your freezer and fridge are struggling to stay cold from lack of electric, you pretty much leave the doors closed to preserve the cold and eat out of the pantry while you wait for your power to be restored or your entire freezer full of food to thaw out while in the freezer which ever comes first. So, since non-spoiling pantry meal ideas are on my mind, and you have shared so many delicious sounding pantry meals with me, I just wanted to give you one of my absolute favs with so many different variations that its my go to when the electric goes out yearly. It does require some water which I keep in storage and I cook it over a propane camping stove when the electric is out, but sometimes you just need a nice hot, hearty meal when there's a hurricane bearing down on you dumping tons of cold water in the form of rain that's attacking you LITERALLY from any angle you can imagine. I call it my ALL IN POTATOES because its such a simple and delicious pantry meal. · Pkt of (Au Gratin/Scalloped) potatoes · Can of cream of (celery/mushroom/chicken) soup to substitute water with in potatoes · Can or jar of Mushroom/asparagus · One protein. Choose from: · Canned chicken/turkey/tuna ·Or Vienna Sausages/cut summer sausage/frozen Sausage · Or beef · Cajun/Chili powder to flavor · Salt & pepper to flavor Just combine all ingredients in a boiling pan with the cooking potatoes. To save on water usage you can just pour all your fluids from the cans or jars of food in to cook the potatoes in. Add the delicate veggies at very end to heat so that you avoid serious decomposition issues with the asparagus. Stir and serve. It is cheap, pantry stable, easy to cook, super filling and so so yummy 😋 The thing I love the best about it is that you can adjust the size of the meal for the number of people by using less of the potato packet and buying individual size canned servings.

Hi Robin ! Faith and Flour has been my goto video for the past couple of weeks ever since I stumbled upon it. Love your approach to house hold duties and since then I have been looking at it that way and not as a chore. Robin, I keep shelf stable milk in my extended pantry. I get it from Dollar Tree of all places. When we don't have fresh milk on hand, we use the DT milk. It tastes great and usually has an expiration about a year out from when I buy it. Look on your food aisle at Dollar Tree--its not refrigerated until you open it. It tastes much better than dry milk.
@FaithandFlour4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa! Is that the same as UHT milk that comes in a tetrapak? We used to find that easily and our family in Switzerland uses it all the time. I can’t find it at our local grocery store anymore and the closest Dollar tree is a loooong ways away. 😩

Pacific Foods brand makes a gluten free cream of chicken soup. I feel it's quite pricy compared to the "normal" alternative so I don't buy it often, but if you really want to have a shelf stable version of it on hand, it does exist. Kind of hard to find and expensive, but technically available. I think Walmart's Great Value brand has a gluten free cream of chicken soup option too, but our local Walmart is too far away for me to really frequent it.

I'm a new subscriber. Mary's Nest recommended you. All of the recipes look delicious but I'm the only one of the three of us that likes a variety of vegetables. Lee and our older autistic son Daniel pretty much only like corn, pinto beans, and baked beans. Daniel also likes cucumbers. Only Daniel and I like rice. We eat two cups per day normally and up to 3 to 4 if we have sinigang (Filipino sour soup, my most favorite food, the only way I can get a larger variety of green vegetables; he won't though eat the radishes or turnips in it). Sinigang is super easy. I use a tamarind seasoning blend that is based on the packaged kind minus the MSG that I grew up eating. My mother is from the Philippines and we lived there when I was three to five years old. That's when we returned to the United States. Any souring agent though would work. I like the pork, beef, fish, and seafood versions of it. Some people like to brown the pork and beef before adding it to the soup. I normally like chicken but not in sinigang. Cook them at your desired tenderness level. Then add whatever vegetables you like at the time it takes to get to your desired tenderness level. Basically whatever will both add flavor and absorb the souring agent works in it. I usually add broccoli, spinach, chard, bok choy, okra, eggplant, radishes or turnips (usually only one between those and add the rest), and tomatoes. Some people add green beans and onions to theirs. Lee is allergic to onions and he doesn't like the texture of tomatoes (he likes them as long as they are liquefied like in a sauce or ketchup) so we don't have them very often. This is a rough time of year for me as it's when I bonded with our younger son Thomas. He would have turned 9 on September 30 but he died of SIDS seven weeks after his birth. Daniel is daddy's boy. Thomas was mine. I was ridiculously happy for the first time while he was alive and I've been primarily numb for the first time since he died. I broke the moment he went from warm and alive to extremely cold and dead. I still miss him daily although I only bonded with him from September 30 to November 19. He was rare as he was one of the few people I could be around all day without feeling drained. I'm an introvert so I need alone time to recharge normally. Even from Lee and Daniel. I was high energy with Thomas which is a good thing as he breastfed every two hours all day and all night long. My sister is the only living person who doesn't drain my energy but I don't see her as often as I used to. Her husband seems to have made her antisocial.

Hi Jean! I'm so happy that you came over from Mary's Channel. I love her! I too have a son with autism and know that limited food likes can be common. It sounds like you are doing all the right things to encourage him to expand his palate, and I am confident your efforts will help. I am very sorry about the loss of your son, Thomas. My heart goes out to you and I wish that could respond better than what this comment section will allow. Know that I am praying for you. God bless. 🙏💛

Hi Robin - I have a recipe that I have Cooked over 50 years thats mainly out of the pantry. I won’t include the details but basically its a casserole that has rice on the bottom layer, a mixture of gr beef, tomatoes and pinto beans with spices in the middle and a pkg of Mexican cornbread on the top. My oldest daughter would squeal when she came home from school if this was being served. Well, here is the update on the brain eating amoeba in our water. You may have seen this on the national news or Gov Abbott was here Tues and gave a televised news conferences. This is very rare and has never happened in Texas before. The little boy that died had been playing at a splash pad in town and The water went up his nose. That is the way you get it. The restrictions have been loosened. At first it was a wide area of many connecting cities but then was narrowed down to one city. Also, instead of using NO water, now water can be boiled. That is not really for the amoeba but for other bacteria that is in the water due to insufficient amounts of chlorine being in the water. Water is still be distributed to us from FEMA and other organizations.The main thing is not to get any water in your nose. People just got another alert from the city that they will coming in everyone’s backyard to sample. So they plan to flush the whole system and that will take about 60 days. This is all unbelievable on top of everything else that has been going on. Everybody is trying to hang in there but all citizens want answers about how this happened, how to keep it from happening again and why it took two weeks for the tests to come back that identified the problem. Texas water quality people and cdc are still here and I think they will get to the bottom of it. My daughter, Rebecca, works with the grandmother of the little boy that died. So sad. Thanks for your sweet smiling face coming into my home each week. It’s so needed. Love in Christ.
@FaithandFlour4 жыл бұрын
Hi Donna! I have been praying for you and the people in your town. I heard the details on the news. How awful for the family of the little boy. This seems to crop up once in a while in lakes and it happened in a white water rafting park where Kyle had been, but this is the first time I’ve heard of it affecting the water supply. I hope they get to the bottom of it soon. That recipe sounds great. That’s the sort of thing I start craving when the weathers gets cooler. Keep me posted on how things are going and I will keep praying! God bless! 🙏😊💛
