Bom Cabsdal, thank you for this and all the other interesting music you upload. Yours is one of my favorite channels on KZbin. Best wishes

Thank you for uploading this, I never managed to order the CD. You (and Christopher Muscat) must be right about the Marcia religiosa e fuga. Nothing in this symphony is even remotely close to D minor. The Andante is in A flat major, the Finale starts in C minor and ends in C major, the scherzo is in F minor, so a first movement in A flat major is fairly reasonable.

I wouldn't want to compary my knowledge of Maltese music to that of Christopher Muscat - HE is the authority here. I agree, however, that considering the dearth of documentation this is a reasonable assumption - moreover, it is more or less the only way to make sense of this composition.

Thank you so much for another wonderful find! Another new (to me) composer. One doesn't find that many symphonies from Italian composers as their emphasis tends toward opera. It is a shame they are for the most part ignored by orchestras. They have a totally different, and delightfully different feel than the Germanic symphonic works.

Vassallo was Maltese, in fact, and mainly wrote choral pieces for the church. However, he's clearly influenced by Italian sacred and opera music.

Thanks for the info. I should have looked him up, but was too lazy. I just assumed from the name and the style. Note to self: Never assume!
