Japanese Conveyor Belt Sushi in Tokyo Harajuku. A guide for travelers coming to Japan on what to order at a Conveyor Belt Sushi restaurant. If ever found yourself at a sushi bar restaurant not knowing what to order or sticking to the same sushi order every time, well hopefully I can help inspire you to try something new in your next visit by showing what sushi, Japanese really order. Today’s lovely sushi spot is Kura Zushi located on the 4th of YM Square less than a minute walk from Harajuku intersection’s shiny Tokyu Plaza. Speaking of which, Japanese say Kura Zushi, instead of Kura Sushi. So if you find yourself wondering what to do in Tokyo or what to eat in Tokyo, this place is worth checking out.

Oh it looks soooo good! And just reminds me of the places we went to in Japan to eat Sushi. The first place we ate Sushi at was Genki Sushi. After a day of wandering around Shinjuku and accidentally forgetting to eat lunch, by 5pm we were starving. We got into Genki and told our waiter that we were a couple and to have one bill. Anyways, we ate a LOT of sushi; even ones that we had no idea what it was but decided to give it a try. After 30 minutes, we were full, to the point that my husband had to step outside and walk it off while I paid for our bill. Not only had the sushi been amazing and so much better then what we had experienced in Canada, but it was cheap! The cashier rang me up and it said 3200 yen, roughly $35 Canadian. I was super confused, usually that amount of sushi we would eat would easily be $100. I apologized and tried to explain that I was paying for two people and mentioned our station numbers again. She returned the confused look and then reiterated that yes, that was the amount for both our sushi stations. I was speechless. I apologized again and said I was expecting a larger price with how expensive it can be in North America. She laughed and told us if that was the case, we needed to come back again. It’s been four years since we were in Japan, and we still miss how the food tasted there.

A Kura Sushi place opened up near my work a few months ago in Michigan. Went with a colleague, and it was pretty good but it was $3.50 a plate unlike the less than $1 in Japan. Also rather than the prize chance being random after every 5 plates it was only at 15 plates that you would win a prize.

A cool thing I saw on a recent trip to Hokkaido. Went out with family to a kurazushi place, not a main chain I think. But the cool thing was there was no tablet, you wrote on a paper slip and they gave it to the chefs in the middle. Once you're all said and done, they took a fairly large device and ran it across the stack of plates, nd it calculated the cost that way. Must have been an IR chip in the base or something, I'm not sure but it was such a smart idea, so fast and efficient.

Hi Paolo, odenkideska. We have a Kura Sushi here in Austin, TX. I was so happy to get one here after experiencing it when I was in Japan in 1994 and 1996. What people don't realize is that sushi here in the United States is a lot more expensive than in Japan. At our Kura Sushi, they charge about $3.20/plate for most plates that Paolo is getting for a lot less. It breaks my heart that I cannot eat sushi more often due to the high prices here.

I don't know about the one you went to but the closest one to me is Bellevue, Washington and that Kura Sushi was garbage. The pieces of fish was small and the plates were still hot from the wash. I also think the 3 hour long line didnt help. I went to one in Kyoto that is by the Bivi mall, that was quite good.
