Excellent Video.... I knew nothing about how to open up the printer before I watched your video. All I knew is that I was getting an HP error that said: *Printer Failure There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If the problem persists, contact HP. 0x610000f6.* I researched the error code via HP's website. None of their fixes worked!!! So I watched your video, Pulled printer apart, Cleaned inner parts (Especially printhead) with glass cleaner (409), a messy process LOL, and put back together. Printer now works better than I could have ever imagined!!! Thank you so much for posting this video.... I will definitely refer others to your videos!

I'm so glad I found your video production. You are the best! You saved me a lot of money and I became a new subscriber. Two things we a little different on my machine. 1.The gears that rotated clockwise to release the print head had a metal cover over them. I Just removed one screw and I could get to the gears. 2. The air hoses were threaded through the springs. I just left them inside the machine while I worked on it. These were very minor differences and did not give me any trouble. But...when I went to install my ink cartridges they would not stay inside the printhead. Why? Because my supplier did not include the little white swivel guides that hold the cartridges into the printhead. (Unfortunately I did not notice this until the job was finished) So... I figured out how to remove them from my old printhead and install them into the new printhead. The great thing about this? I was able to do it without disassembling anything. Thanks again from a "non technical" person in St. Paul MN, USA.

Its been two years but could you add a video on cleaning or replacing the Ink service station (ISS) and bottom absorber foam? Many head failures are the result of this part being oversaturated with ink. Replacing just the Printhead will just cause another failure.

@repeter25 жыл бұрын
Hello. Terrific video, great detail and clarity. But trying to follow it on my 6700, when I get to about 6:12 in the video where you unlock the print head by turning the white plastic gear at the left end of the track, I am stumped. That gear is covered by another part on my printer, almost like a chain guard on a bicycle, and I cannot get a finger on it to rotate it. I managed to get a screwdriver onto it to try to rotate it, but it doesn't really go, and just springs back to its original position after I move it only a couple of teeth's worth. And in the process of doing that, the left end of the mylar-like tape that runs along the tubular track into the print head popped off - and I'm not sure what it's supposed to connect to. Is there some way I can send you a photo of what it looks like, both the cover over the gear, and the end of the mylar tape that has a hole in it but nothing obvious to hook it onto?
@repeter25 жыл бұрын
I actually sort of solved my own problems. First, I found a flat springy piece with a hook shape on the end that looked like it lined up with the mylar tape, used a screwdriver to flex it in the right direction, and managed to hook the hole in the end of the tape onto it, and it looked okay. Then I put it back together and powered it on. Still got errors about the ink system.and possibly missing print head, but when the print head moved to the center, I grabbed it with my hand and unplugged the printer. This left the print head unlocked, so I could slide it back and forth without having to deal with the inaccessible white plastic gear. Before ordering a print head I wanted to make sure I could do the job. But in fact, I'm thinking I should try manual cleaning first, as reviews of various print heads are very mixed, even the ones that appear to be perfect replacements often don't seem to work. I had thought that the springs that fit over the ink ingress ports would interfere with fitting the syringe used for cleaning , but it seems like the springs are soft enough that you can just push them aside when you fit the syringe in place for cleaning.
@PaoloMarcelli5 жыл бұрын
@@repeter2 Hi! First of all, just some of those printers have a black cover on that white gear, so you've done a good job deciding to power the printer on and unplug it, as it's so much easier than removing that cover. Onto the printhead: When you get a printhead failure it's never a matter of cleaning, that can only cause printing quality problems and not detection problems, so if the printer gives you a printhead error you just need to replace it! I've done even a video called "Is the hp printhead really missing or damaged?" where I show after a few diagnosis attempts that the error is caused by an electrical issue, and cannot be fixed. Paolo M.
@repeter25 жыл бұрын
@@PaoloMarcelli Thank you so much! It seemed likely to me that it was an electrical/sensor problem rather than clogging, but it's hard to know for sure. So one other thing I've seen that I suppose might also have a sensor that could trigger the error is the "waste ink" pads and tank, as at www.octoink.co.uk/categories/Waste-Ink-Solutions/. I'm thinking that the feature might be specific to Epson printers, but on the other hand, the 6700 uses a lot of ink and there must be some excess that has to go somewhere. If you could rule that out, I'm ordering a print head and keeping my fingers crossed, since customer ratings for new print heads at Amazon are not encouraging.
@repeter25 жыл бұрын
Oops, I just saw your reply here to @dbbdb: "The ink gets pumped in the service station, which contains the waste ink pads. In order to clean the waste ink pads or replace them, you need to remove the entire printing system, then the service station (cleaning unit just to be clear), open it, and then remove the pads." So the 6700 has such a thing, but it's even harder to access than the print head. Any chance you could do a video on that? But I guess my more immediate question is, do you know if there's a sensor on the service station that could possibly trigger the print head missing error?
@PaoloMarcelli5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry for the late reply :/ Yes it's very possible I'll make a video about it in the future, but I don't know why for sure. There are no sensors in the service station at all, it's just an ink container with a pad :)

Thanks for this wonderful detailed video. It is very helpful to replace the print head step by step. I would propose one litte improvement, at minute 14 the insertion of the new print head is shown. There is missing a remark that the encoder stripe has to be checked that it is inside the LED barrier of the PCB. I didn´t considered that and wondered why the print head could not find a defined position afterwards.

Hi! Problem with the print system? Usually it says there's a problem with the INK system. If that's the case I've a video on that, try to look on my channel for HP Ink System Failure. Okay, question about my HP OfficeJet Pro 6869, 2 items I need help with, 1st. printer carriage is stuck to the right, will not move, I will have to manually move it, I need to relocate it from the right side to the center. 2nd. How does the aluminum tab holding the "Timing Encoder Strip set into the printer? It is unplugged and eventually I found out that I have to replace the print head (which is now on order) to clear out a "paper jam error". HP isn't helping and I am hoping that you can
@PaoloMarcelli3 жыл бұрын
You may not need to replace the printhead if the error is a "paper jam" on the carriage. That aluminium tab holds the CR encoder strip in place, and if it's not installed correctly the printer doesn't actually know where the carriage is, it cannot locate its position! The CR Encoder strip needs to be in the correct position and pass through the black optical sensor behind the printhead. This said, I don't know the exact position for that piece on your printer, usually it's fixed to the left side on the metal frame, but it should be in a similar position to the HP 5520 and I have several videos on that model that you can check out :)

TY for the video! I attempted the exchange today.... but What effects the ink cartridge snap in? Where are excess ink pads? HP 6600

Hi! Sorry but I didn't understand your question... Paolo M.
@dbdb17915 жыл бұрын
With HP 6600 Where does the excess ink go? when you clean your heads with printer menu, where does this ink go? Waste ink reservoir and pads? With an old printer can this be cleaned?
@PaoloMarcelli5 жыл бұрын
The ink gets pumped in the service station, which contains the waste ink pads. In order to clean the waste ink pads or replace them, you need to remove the entire printing system, then the service station (cleaning unit just to be clear), open it, and then remove the pads. Paolo M.

Hi, thanks, I replaced the printhead in accordance with your instructions, all is as should be. Now I am getting an error message "The print cartridge cannot move. Open the ink cartridge access door, clear any paper jam or obstruction and select OK". I have now been over the entire machine, checked the HP video on the subject, cleaned the ribbon, still get the same error. I can't print, scan, fax or do anything. Do you have any suggestions? Paolo, thank you for the very detailed video, I got a 'new' printhead for my 6600 and completed the steps as you detailed, the printer no longer gives me the printhead error but now gives me "Remove cartridges and inspect for leaks. Do not use leaky cartridges. Re-install cartridges if okay. Turn printer off and on." It says "K" under that message for the black carriage. I've tried new cartridges and restarted, do you have any advice on what I should check? Thank you!

That's strange, did the cartridge actually leak inspecting the inside of the printer? Are you using genuine cartridges?
@necro1234yahoo4 жыл бұрын
@@PaoloMarcelli it runs a test on every startup which I can't exit out of when it says this, looking in the printer I don't see leaks ( or around the cartridges) but I do see that it's putting down a good amount of ink on the "cleaning station" side. It's even more strange that it was saying K was leaking, then it changed to M, then C M and now it's showing M C Y with the same message. I know that this is a bit late but did you ever get the error fixed.... I ask because that was THE EXACT same error number that I was getting (and could not get rid of) I was able to resolve it by cleaning the parts inside after watching this video... Here is my comment: Excellent Video....

Very informative video. Unfortunately the printhead is not available on Ali Express now. Ebay has them for around $46. I don't know if it is worth to fix it? Did your printer continue to work after repair? Is it still working?
@PaoloMarcelli4 жыл бұрын
Hi Leslie :) Well I see it's available on AliExpress for me, maybe it's not for your country, but I'm just assuming. Try going on AliExpress.com and search for "HP Officejet 6700 printhead" instead of following the link and have a look at the results. The printer I repaired got sold, like most of the printers I repair are not mine, well they are but they get sold after they're repaired and confirmed as 100% working. I think this is a pretty reliable fix, but it all depends on the individual parts.

Hi Paolo, i'm from Milan but i write in english if possibly helpful for someone else, my printer drove me mad, it's a HP Officejet 6950 with printhead problem error message, after hours spent thinking it was software issue (found the service menu entering sequence, done an eprom reading, found the default S/N to be able to fully reset printer to factory state, found a video explaining how to skip setup cartridges request on init phase) then i had to trust to the bad heads, bought one group on Aliex and easily replaced it.. after all this wasted time the final surprise, a new sticky error of paper jam, this due to the waste ink sucker block that remains lifted under the printhead and prevents the carriage from side movements, the carriage begins the run to center , it stops and the error appears on display, no paper inside !! i have tried moving by hand the left side big wheel and the sucker block returns back but when i launch a print the same stuck situation happens.. thanks 4 the long reading.. bye..
@PaoloMarcelli2 жыл бұрын
Hi! My name is not Marcello as you can clearly read from the channel name, but oh well... In your case, I think it could be a problem with the CR Encoder Strip, if it doesn't pass through the black optical sensor behind the printhead, the printer detects a paper jam at the carriage section, and it's easy for the CR encoder strip to get out of position when you replace the printhead, check if it passes correctly through the sensor and also check if it's stained with ink, in that case clean it with a cloth or paper towel using some glass cleaner (like Quasar). Thank you for shariing your experience!

@PaoloMarcelli5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I've repaired more than 20 of those printers so honestly I don't remember what the problem was, but most of the times it was a printhead missing or damaged error, so not involving clogs! Check a few things: 1. does the printhead leak ink from the top part where the ink port is (so where the cartridge connects)? 2. Is the service station (cleaning unit) clean and does it work? if it's very dirty it could be possible that ink has clogged inside there, so even if you have a working printhead it will not work properly. 3. what type of ink cartridges are you using? Paolo M.

@bradgrills72004 жыл бұрын
It seems that in your video, you did not use HP "Setup" Cartridges to initialize the new print-head. Other internet post I have read, indicate that you need to have SETUP cartridges to get your printer to properly initialize the new print-head, else it will give an error asking for setup carts. Can you explain why you did not get this error.
@PaoloMarcelli4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad. Setup cartridges are required only if you perform a semi-full or full reset in the Support Menu. The printer will perform a deep purge cycle anyway either if you do the reset or not, so you don't need to perform the reset, and so you don't need the Setup cartridges.

Hi! I didn't make a video about cleaning the cleaning station, but it's pretty easy, nothing special. Around at 16:21 I show how to move the cleaning station in order to show the pad. drop some cleaning fluid onto the pad and soak it with a paper towel several times to clean it, also take a cotton swab and cleaning fluid and clean the rubber gasket around the pad, and the other parts of the unit. Feel free to ask me anything else :) Paolo M.

Hi Paolo M. Thank you for your prompt reply. I have disassembled the printer now and tried to move the cleaning station (as well as printhead). To clean the station I noticed in the video (at 16:21-ish) you pushed a white star-shaped plastic unit on the side of printer (near station) and then engaged the splined shaft below station with a "lever" adjacent the station and turned a spindle on the opposite side of printer. Having done all this the cleaning station doesn't move. It's as though the splined bar isn't turning and I cannot EVEN move the station manually - am I missing something? I know this is not the main content of your video but I am hoping you may be able to help? Regards, Keith
@PaoloMarcelli6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Exactly at 16:23 you can see that when I move the gear at the right, the lever you've to push comes out in position, I tell you this just so you can clearly see where the lever is. Push that lever to the left while moving the geat on the right. I'm sorry for that part of the printer being dark in video, but if you want I can find you an image of the cleaning station and I can indicate the lever on it, if you can't see it from the video. Paolo M.
@keithloughlin34686 жыл бұрын
Hi I did push the lever as I said in my last reply - if it is correct one, it engages a lower spindle below the station into a gear shaft, but the gear shaft is not turning with the gear on the right. if yo could send an image it may help. By the way my printer is 6700 premium and it does look slightly different inside - is this the issue? Thanks.

Also Paolo, this printer carriage moves around back and forth ALOT in preparation to print. I have never had a printer act so weird! Mine is not printing at all due to error message "there is a problem with the printer system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP." HP tech support did trouble shooting and said more than likely it is a hardware problem. But no one in LA fixes these!! Not sure it's the printhead but one tech guy on the phone said it is possible. He also said it's better to buy another printer.

The way I see it, it's better to buy a new one BUT it's sooo bad to generate waste that cannot be recycled in any way, so I'd try to repair it if possible.
