I have one of those, also. I didn’t like the design either. I doubled the frame rails, replaced the angle iron crossmembers with 2” square tube, and put a real fifth wheel hitch on it. I found a handful of cracks all over it. Nice job on the repair.

I worked in my daddy's shop since I was 5 holding the light and fetching tools. One thing that I really appreciate is a tidy, uncluttered shop. When I got my own shop, I decided that the last step in every project was clean and put away the tools. Sean's dad's shop is my kind of shop.

Love the fact you pointed out that you can over strengthen something and make the original frame a weak spot. Such a crucial thing to understand when repairing frames
@tlover94Ай бұрын
He has the added weight on the front of that hitch. The hitch wasn't designed for that. Plus, he's got those toolboxs hanging off the back bumper. It puts more undue stress on the frame that wasn't designed for that setup. You did a good job fixing it.

Working with the customer there is sometimes tricky, but from what i could see he did not seem too bad. When I am paying someone to work for me, I typically just ID the issue, what I was thinking for a fix and any boundaries I don't want to crossed, and then I leave so I am not in the way. He was in way a bit but not too bad. Great job guys.

I love to weld and fabricate, but on a house trailer not so much. The stories of things burning up afterward told to me by more experienced folks makes me steer clear. I witnessed a guy set the control room of a chip mill to smoldering from sparks ... we had to put it out with a water hose ... on all of those electronics. Scary for sure. Wood combined with welding is pretty risky. ✌
