This debate is just so tiresome. These people don’t give a shit about what happens to these children when they’re born - if they did then they wouldn’t spend their time and resources advocating for the ones that haven’t been, they could be helping the children that are already here and need their help the most. In a similar vein, I've heard prolife people explicitly state that it's okay to kill an embryo in an IVF clinic's freezer because it's just a frozen embryo, but when it's inside of a woman, it's an unborn child with rights. Both that and the thought experiment with the burning hospital are enough to tell me that prolife isn't about protecting unborn children at all, but about control.

The dependency argument in regards to life support is funny because i’m pretty sure, at least in the case of old people, they would more than likely be claimed as a dependent with a power of attorney who gets to decide on their life. It’s pretty 1:1 of a mother deciding on a fetus’ “right to life” that is not yet viable outside of her womb.
@yungmop Жыл бұрын
And the reason you can’t “kill a baby” thats post birth is because it is only now dependent on you based on what would be now classified I guess as a disability and you can’t just kill someone who’s inconveniencing you.

@@Mrraerae Terminating life support is a thing. Also, the person with power of attorney can opt to cease or withhold medical treatment if the patient is incapable of advocating for themselves. When you give someone PoA over your medical decisions, you effectively give them the ability to determine whether you live or die should you be rendered incapable or incompetent.

Parents choose if you want to be here or not, the doctors cant say if you want to live or not if you have the money and resources you can substain both but if a parent literally doesn't have the resources to take care of a child they should just get thrown in a fosters care like we have many outstanding citizens coming from them. Bodily atonomy solves the problems of 2 having bodily atonomy since....to give the baby control of the potential mother, you have to give the baby special bodily rights. If their equal and in conflict the mother have to make the hard choice, not someone else.

Agreed. You can't give a fetus rights without taking some away from the mother, which by default elevates the rights of the fetus above those of the mother.

This conversation would have been 600,000,000% more productive without Kristen(?). Lyla(?) was somewhat able to be reasonable. But they were both bad faith but the other was just omega bad faith woman victim. If a man talks to her then it will always be from a position of condescension no man can just interact with her all men are bad. It’s actually bad she has children because that means she had sex, probably rape cuz all men are bad, with a man and now her children have an abusive man father.
@freddart5163 Жыл бұрын
I thought aborting was when you don't want or cant care for the baby. Disingenuous to equivalate someone trying their best to keep a baby before a term date, to someone having a decision to not wanting a child. This is a weird argument

The non-glasses girl is almost raising a good point around 1:43:20, idk if its a "circular" argument when she says the level of consciousness is "uncertain" and Destiny says it is certain without specifying why, it's definitely a dumb reply from Destiny and the whole line of questioning quickly goes nowhere. If these two ladies were more capable they could of had an interesting conversation about what consciousness IS. Destiny's whole notion of "consciousness" is arbitrarily based on a collection of signals that scientist point to at 20-24 weeks that are similar to signals and processes we view as related to consciousness at later stages of development and growth. SO, what she is struggling to ask is why that collection of indicators is significant, which would then drag the conversation into the realm of science, or at the very least make the development of consciousness more ambiguous. If you take the conversation to a place where you are arguing about whether the first cell of an embryo that will become part of the nervous system can react to stimulation (e.i. pain) you can highlight that the development process at 20-24 weeks is not that different to 19 weeks, 18 weeks, etc. You can push it all the way back to 6 weeks when the nervous system and brain begin developing. As a bonus, one of the weird things about Destiny is he thinks pain response is completely irrelevant, and to such an extreme degree that he has said that animals don't warrant consideration because their pain is meaningless and potentially non-existent, that an animal screaming in pain is like this purely mechanical process. It's borderline unhinged tbh. If you can get to the point where you are reducing consciousness to a mechanism of cells interacting with each other you could potentially get Destiny to say some truly wild shit. Anyway, this whole conversation is dumb af, yeetus that fetus!
