We tried that years ago and it only killed about half the fleas. The best, 100% guaranteed way to get rid of ALL your fleas is to sprinkle table salt on your carpet and place bowls of water in each room, the salt dehydrates the fleas, they jump into the water a end up drowning. The salt breaks down into a fine powder without ruining your carpet and all you have to do is vacuum it up when you’re done. We had an infestation that was so bad the exterminator wanted thousands to to take care of and we did it for less then $10.

Hi Joe! I just wanted to thank you SO MUCH for putting this video together for us! I have a pretty big house, and a 20 year old niece with a huge soft spot for homeless and unwanted cats. We currently have 9 (anyone want one?) and for the first time in 20 years, a HUGE flea problem. We started herb boxes at every window and door. After hours of research I found your video!! In two days our bowls have more fleas than water. We can't thank you enough!!! Love from Florida - Michelle and family
@papajoeknows83555 жыл бұрын
Hey Michelle, I’m in Florida too, Orlando area. Sorry to hear about your flea problem, but glad to hear it’s working... we tried everything, and to be fair, everything did help. But when we started doing the traps it really started knocking them out. We kept the traps going day & night until they were gone. Another thing that seemed to help was to sprinkle baking soda on the carpets, then use s broom to sweep it in. Then repeat after every time you vacuum. The baking soda acts as a “desiccant” which dries out the eggs and fleas.

What I have been using is a large flat metal pan that you can get at a feed store or farm supply that is used for feeding livestock or chickens. It is about 18" in diameter and 3 inches deep. I put about an inch of water mixed with some dish soap, and a candle in the middle. Set it in the middle of the room at night. The candle attracts the fleas, they jump at the candle, land in he water and sink. Works 100%.
@ptxlvr71505 жыл бұрын
I would just be real careful of the candle, if it was to fall over, it could burn your house down, and I would hate for that to happen. I'm sure you've taken precautions, but with an open flame there isn't enough precautions. Take it from an ex firefighter

You don't need Dawn, any dish soap/detergent will work. The detergent works in 2 ways. The first way is it breaks down the surface tension on the water. Fleas can be light enough to float on top of water, but the detergent makes the water wetter in essence and thus the fleas fall right into the water rather than being able to float and be dry. Now they can't breathe. The second thing the detergent does is break down the waxy coating fleas (and other arthropods) have on their bodies. Insects and arachnids don't breathe through their face like most animals do. They have tiny holes in their abdomens called Spiracles. Their abdomens move in and out to exchange air much like our lungs expend and contact to do the same thing. With arthropods the waxy coating is supposed to protect the body from too much water absorbing through their exoskeleton and spiracles. The detergent breaks down that wax letting water seep into their body and spiracles so they drown. I suggest you get some diatomaceous earth and finely sprinkle that stuff all over your floors, esp the carpeted ones. Diatomaceous earth is a fine gray/tan colored powder that is naturally mined from the earth. It is comprised of fossilized diatoms which were single celled creatures that lived in the oceans and still do. When fossilized their bodies are sharp, like broken glass though harmless to us. However, this dust is harmful to arthropods (insects, arachnids). When arthropods walk through the diatomaceous earth it sticks to them. As it coats their bodies it literally cuts through their exoskeletons letting air getting in where it's not supposed to and dries them out. It does the same thing to the eggs of the offending creatures. Sprinkle this earth all over the floor using a fine sieve and close off that room for about 3 days. Keep pets out of rooms with the earth on the floor. Even though it's non toxic and natural, you don't want it in the eyes of your animals because their heads are much closer to the floors than ours are. After 3-4 days, vacuum the heck out of that room. If you can seal the doors with tape, the fleas can't get out of that room. Try to do as many rooms as you can at once to kill as many fleas as you can at once. I kind of miss having pets, but I do not miss flea infestations, or ticks.
@papajoeknows83556 жыл бұрын
SpiritBear12 wow, all very good information... thanks so much for taking the time to share!! 👍🏻
@SpiritBear126 жыл бұрын
If you can't find diatomaceous earth, you can use plain old Borax. Definitely keep pets away from Borax even though it is also a product of the earth, you don't want your pets rolling in it and licking it off of their fur or getting in their eyes. Use it the same, sprinkle it all over the floors. What it does is it acts like salt and pulls moisture out of the bodies of the fleas and dries them up, same with their eggs. You may have to do cycles of this as the fleas lay eggs, hatch, grow and do their life cycle again. It will take time to wipe them all out, so you have to be diligent! Bedding must be washed in really hot water and dried the same. The hardest thing to free of fleas is soft furniture like couches with fabric coverings. If you have vinyl or leather upholstery, it's easier to wipe out the fleas. Wash the animal's bedding in really hot water too. You have to wage an all out assault/war on them! If you slack in your attacks, they'll be back.

It's important to use a white plate for more reflection. Mix the Dawn in a cup before pouring, it's a bit easier. You can just add a little water when it evaporates.You will have to move the plate from room to room or use more than one plate and repeat the process in two weeks as that is the cycle of reproduction. We have 7 indoor cats and it works, believe me! Be careful not to have the lamp too close to the plate, if the water gets too hot it will discourage the fleas, about 12 to 18 inches with a 40 or 60 max. watt bulb. Don't worry the cats won't touch it, they will stay clear! Good post, thanks!

@papajoeknows83554 жыл бұрын
Zoë Rimel oh it’s works, just make sure you don’t use LED bulbs because they don’t put out any heat... fleas are like heat seeking missiles. We used the curly CFL bulbs and they worked great. Keep the traps going day and night until they are gone. You have to go through a cycle where the existing eggs hatch and then head for the traps. Also sprinkle salt or baking soda on the carpets and use a broom to sweep it in. Wait a couple of days then vacuum and repeat... the sodium dries out the fleas and eggs. Hang in there, you’ve got this. 👍🏻✊🏻

The dogs are in tatters (no hair on inside of legs, balded on back around base of tail) These people can't even take them outside/keep water in their bowls. It's practically animal abuse... sadly I was desperate for a last minute living arrangement. I've never been so stressed to sleep and these idiots don't even care. They sleep with the dogs in their bed. How can they ignore bugs literally crawling on their skin?! It's pathetic!!!! I've been the only one vaccuuming their areas, but they still leave big, wet piles of laundry in their bathrooms! That's a breeding ground!! Sorry i drank 3 cups of coffee after waking up covered in some and I have been manically vaccuuming my room. Used your trap and already caught 3 big ass dog fleas. GROSS!!!!

Having tried this, yes it does work somewhat. What I found to keep the fleas away is this. Get some Diatomaceous Earth, now get a 1 gallon sprayer, mix 1 cup of the earth into the sprayer with 1 gallon of water shake well. Set the sprayer head for medium to fine spray, vacuum your carpet real good, then spray with the mixture, you need to keep it shook up, but not a whole lot. This causes a very fine application of earth across where ever you sprayed, and its a even distribution. To test take a piece of dark cardboard and make a light spray across it, wait for it to dry, you will see a fine application across it. I vacuum about once a week and for the first month I did this. Now I have no fleas at all not one. Im totally amazed. One bag of earth will last years, and everytime the cats lay down on the carpet, they get a little treatment, tho they dont know it. We had a bad case of fleas, both cats were bringing them in, we were going totally nuts, they were everywhere. Have not seen a flea in 6 months. While your spraying, spray your cat to, it wont hurt them at all, and if they lick at it, it only helps there digestion, win, win. I believe the key to this is the sprayer, and the even distribution. If you spray wood floors along the edges you will see the dust, but it wont hurt anything. We have wood floors in the kitchen, I only sprayed once in there. Its basically a miracle. And a cheap one at that. My Girlfriend dosent bitch, and my cats dont itch. The water and the dawn and the light does work, I did that first and it helped alot, but they kept coming back. The combination of both is a winner. And no dangerous chemicals on your animals, which I believe cant be good for them. It really works try it.

Im lucky they will land on me, but wont bite me, but my niece that lives with me, they really go after her. When Im spraying, which I do about every 2 months, the cats walk around looking at me. I go ahead and spray them while Im at it. I think the key to this is the uniform spray. It cuts up the fleas shell and then they die. The cats like to follow me around when Im spraying, and like I said its only every couple of months or so, and its just to assure they dont come back, we have yet to see one flea since we started using this treatment. I kinda try not to spray the cats on the head, I just spray it at them, they dont get drenched or any thing like that, they kinda like it. fleas dont live on your pet, they jump on when they get hungry, then just back off into your carpet or house. Remember a 1 gal sprayer and 1 cup of Diatomaceous earth, that it. We were so lucky to figure this out. Our Vet just wanted to keep selling us high priced stuff to basically poison the cats. Looks like 1 10 lb bag will last us 5 years at least. The first time you spray your carpets, put alot down, then dont vacuum for at least a week, you wont see it at all. And then do it again maybe 3 weeks later, but not heavy. If the cats have fleas, go ahead and spray them good as well, you could just dust them, but spraying is alot easier. Hollar if you need any more info. We know what its like to have fleas in your house. Terrible

So I dumped the bowl out, and replaced it with unscented dish soap and it caught 2 fleas in 10 mins. Wow! This is really is an efficient, safe, and easy way to eliminate fleas. Thank u so much for sharing.

M Kim You need Dawn the blue one. That really works for catching them. Move the bowl in different places, it still works during the day. It's hard to understand how many fleas breed. Remember to empty your vacuum bags our side since the flea eggs are still alive.

Hi, what are the instructions for that method? Did you spread dry baking sida onto the suraces or did you mean you added baking soda to water and let them drown like the video?

Zelda C. Smith half baking soda and half salt. Mix it and sprinkle on the floor or mattress. Leave for an hour or so and vacuum up. Not sure how/why, but they die. Repeat in a couple of weeks.

Goodness Gracious!!!! I make my husband treat our yard & house parameters & no fleas or anything else. We use Eco Smart. It's an all natural insect repellent. Smells like very strong menthol/eucalyptus. It'll clear up sinuses that's for sure. But more Importantly, it's all natural, pet friendly & it works!

Great share. Really important to use same solution and wipe down all the floor base boards in every room. Cedar chips are also great to add to pet beds. My kids were always bringing home stray pets. So glad that compassion started there and moved onto helping people with sock's, blanket's and jacket's. Love the little things that grow big hearts.

A friendly reminder to be careful if using an incandescent lamp on carpet. If it gets knocked over, it can become a fire starter in minutes. Think of a way to brace it so that it cannot contact the floor or carpet with the light or hood.

I love this. This is what landlords do to see if there any fleas when a tenant moves out. Another thing that works is salt. Only if it is not raining though. If it is a dry spell and you have fleas, sprinkle salt everywhere. All over carpets and furniture and in cracks, etc. It kills fleas in a matter days. After about a week vacuum it all up and there you go. I did that and it worked great. Also, it didn’t bother my cats.

Lynn Stewart I’ve heard it but never tried. We used borax and that helped. Glad to say we’re finally flea free though... the traps ultimately pulled so many out of the population they were not able to thrive any longer. ✊🏻

I use salt, but going to try this method in video., too. Right now, have flea infestation and salt poured all over the place. (I don't have carpeting). With salt, I don't have to worry about pets consuming any and it's really cheap.

This helps a lot. I've had a burning hatred of fleas since I was a teenager, after seeing half a litter of kittens die from fatal anemia. They belonged my girlfriend's family, who didn't know what the cause was until it was too late. The last kitten that died had passed away in my arms when we were trying to find an animal service to call. The point is, I currently have an 18 year old cat, who is generally pretty healthy, but had been acting strange lately. She's old, but her loss of energy was unusually sudden. I checked her for fleas, and there they were. After administering a dose of flea medicine and cleaning my home, they came back within the week. I really don't want to lose my cat to these parasitic creatures, so I'd like to say thank you for the great advice. I'll be going to the store to look for some lamps

Giovanni glad to hear you’re going to do it. One thing, do NOT use LED bulbs, because they don’t put out any heat... fleas are like heat seeking missiles. We used the curly CFL bulbs and they worked great. Another thing... sprinkle salt or baking soda on the carpets, use a broom to sweep it in. After a couple of days, vacuum & repeat. The sodium in the salt / baking soda dries out the fleas and eggs.

Just want to thank you!!! I had been out of town a few months, came home , had raccoons in my chimney. Used a gaser to get them out. Think one died and fleas started appearing just in that area. Used your trick , modified it a bit added acv and surrounded the bowl with glue traps. Amazing results literally killed them all, took a few weeks ,scary to see how many it killed..Flea Free Thank U!!! :)
