Loved the idea of recycling the gilding paper. Irritates me how people use the word "upcycle" for everything, but I think that is definitely an apropos use of the word upcycle. Smart way of saving all of that gilding. Waste not, want not.

Is 23.5 gold leaf real gold? Sorry i did not understand whether oil sizing can use real gold leave or only for metal leaf. Thanks.

Yes 23.5ct is gold leaf. 24ct is pure gold. Then as you drop down the carat other metals are added but it's still classed as gold. Metal leaf has no gold content it's just metal. You can use any leaf for gilding, oil or water gilding. Although gold leaf works best for water gilding.

Ooo! I must try the Instacoll thing. Do you know if it's possible to tool it after? You know, sort of decorate it with stamping and incising? (Important for iconography.)
