Update edit: My information on these details is not complete, but I'll put them in the pinned comment. If you use the roll forward exploit to get the prizes but then want to put your clock back to normal without paying a 500 coin fine for a new ticket, you need to time setting your clock back between receiving the last prize you care about, but before Lucky forces a new ticket on you for winning jackpot, preferably on the "got an item" blub. Also new to the remake is that the tampered clock can be recognized on ALL your files, including fresh ones that don't have access to West Rogueport yet. So those looking to exploit the lottery on multiple playthroughs will have to pay 500 coins instead of 10 for their FIRST ticket. Original: One (other) thing I should elaborate on is the prize day range thing. In the original version, you had to go into those prize ranges and check the sign each and every day within that range until you won the prize. All the while turning the Gamecube or Wii on and off over and over again to access the clock in the process. In the remake, it seems like once those ranges are passed, the prize winning days are stored until the next time the player goes back to play the game. Which may be why one can just brute force through those ranges with little to no precision and still claim the prizes. Huh, I was wondering about that, how could it be "guaranteed" if you go forward 335 days and then +1 each time on Switch... I guess queueing the wins seemed more fair, while still keeping the "scammy" way the lottery works in general.

Something I discovered, if you change the date during lucky’s 1st prize dialogue but BEFORE you get the new ticket back to the date you started on, you can set your clock back to normal without any repercussions

It did in GCN if you adjusted manually, since the GameCube had no concept of DST. I would think in the remake, they probably coded the last-check timestamps to use UTC to be timezone independent... imagine if Lucky went thermonuclear on you because you took your Switch across state lines on a train ride, and NTP auto-updated the system timezone while in front of him!

Didn’t unless her anger on mario at the beginning of the game, then again mario can live that so… Something about the lottery, apparently (apparently, havent tested because i cant be bothered to mess with the lottery, and I saw someone else mention this) you can change the clock back when mario holds the reward above his head and the game wont notice.

Yeah, the time-received is written to the save at the exact frame "You got a Lottery Ticket!" appears. So reset to _Sync to Network Time_ *while* Mario still has the Lucky Day/Zess Dynamite over his head, and Lucky is none the wiser.

They literally can't. How do you check if the player manually advanced the time or the clock actually went up, the internet isn't really an option.

@@michaelepica3564 They can, because player inputs need to be tracked for stuff to function period. There is a difference between pressing a button to add an hour and an literal hour passing on its own. By tracking player input, the frequency, and the size of the time skips you can figure it out. Given how much you need to cheat in HLL this is very easy to check as consistently skipping roughly 24 hours is an indication of clock manipulation. Since to do this for 100s of days implies direct intent especially since you don't have to shut down the game this means the game would be able to see it has been open for 100s of days. All of these things combined will almost certainly catch a cheater, better then Resetti ever did as power outages exist. Not that this should be done as it would be scummy to do.

Except they can't stop you from cheating. The game cannot tell the difference between a player suspending the game and changing the clock and a player suspending the game and waiting a day. And since there are going to be players who would wait out the time, check thr lottery, and then suspend the game, you can't assume that any player who has repeated one day time skips as a cheater.

I thought Happy Lucky Lottery was on the East side of Rougeport, so I beat up Gus after I beat Hooktail, and there was nothing. :(

If you're good with Superguards and willing to Power Smash a lot, you can beat up Gus _during the prologue_ for a nice chunk of XP. Combined with the extra Goombas in the Sublevel Two corridor, it's super easy to get Level 2 before heading to Petal Meadows...

You know, I actually thought up an interesting scenario for when Lucky caught you cheating again. Okay, so it goes like this: Essentially, Lucky will do his freakout thing like usual. However, instead of a fake out, the camera would pan out to a big shot of Rogueport, and then through individual text boxes as it zooms out more and more, Lucky would say: “YOU’RE… NOT… SO… LUCKY!!” And then a huge explosion would happen, sending Mario and his partner flying into the air, with Rogueport seeming mostly intact, however all the citizens would be freaking out, thinking an earthquake just happened. Then the game over screen would appear, after Mario and his partner are blasted off into space, with a little star as they disappear into the sky. However, here’s the fun part. With auto saving being a feature, the game would secretly save behind your back, and check if you have the badge or not, but ONLY if you’ve already cheated before. Now, when you “go back to your last save” Mario will wake up on the ground with 0 Coins, his HP at 5, and the prizes he got from the Happy Lucky Lottery completely missing from his inventory, as he wakes up in front of Lucky, who greets him by referring to the player, saying, “As they say, cheaters never prosper, Buddy! Hopefully, you won’t be so *unlucky* again.” Mario checks his pockets, and has a shocked expression as a notification telling the player what Lucky did is displayed at the top of the screen. Afterwards, Lucky then goes back to his cheerful self, but if you talk to the residents of Rogueport, they’ll actually mention an earthquake. (I’m sure you can assume what they’d say about it.) Sorry for the word vomit, but if you read this, then props to you my friend!

I think that's kind of the _point_ of the Happy Lucky Lottery in the first place, especially given the nature of the town it takes place in. At least they made it "nicer" by _queueing_ win days rather than forcing you to check every... single... last... day... (as well as making the game _not_ freak out when the system clock is changed without closing the game)

Granted, they have to make it so that you can changd the time when the game is suspended, otherwise Lucky would get angry any time you turn off your console. No matter what, the system time eill be different if you suspend the software.

You can step on Zess T.'s contacts, trigger her to block West Rogueport , and order new contacts at the shop as early as the prologue. The contacts can then be bought as early as after Chapter 1. Applies to both original and remake.

Reset to Network Time _while_ the jackpot prize is over Mario's head. The time-received is written to the save file the exact frame "You got a Lottery Ticket!" appears on screen, so as long as you don't advance the dialogue to it, you can fix the system clock and he's none the wiser.

Fast forwarding is impossible to check for given that the game cannot tell the difference between the system time being changed to a day ahead while the software is suspended and a player suspending the game for a day.
